The stars were right, the rings all in alignment, the moons all shining full on a beautiful midday eclipse. As the moons each slid into the suns path, a young apprentice chanted the ancient words of power. "Taera, Invex, Auiros, Onwam. Aetunus, Postentiar, Daevunium, Shaladar. praesunum offerunus sunus ijar. Inwunum eisu iejum!" Unfortunately the mage was linguistically challenged, and not only did they mispronounce the names of several grand praetors in a rather insulting fasion, they had misformed their offering and request.
Had this been an ordinary apprentice, or an ordinary day, typically nothing would have happened. But this was no ordinary day, the planes were the closest they had been for 800 years, and the moons and rings were all in alignment. The day was right for the most powerful of magics to be wrought. Nor was this any ordinary apprentice, with a mana core the size of a fist, a ki center as large as a liver, and even having psionic potential, this should have been the most potent mage ever born, had they ever been properly inspected, and not simply dismissed for their lowly birth.
These extraordinary events combined in the most unfortunate of ways. Rather than accepting the offerings presented to them, and summoning a hero's to fulfill all of the mage wishes, the forces they had called upon took the mage as the offering instead, one eighth for each of the praetors to torment for their insult. And rather than calling forth an immortal hero as a servant, many 'heroes' were called forth across the lands, while the mage obtained immortality to prolong their suffering.

I woke up to a hard fall. Fucking fell out of bed again, and damn, why was the floor so cold. Blearily opening my eyes I was greeted by a bright sky... Fucking hell, Kevin must have thought it was funny to toss me out in the wilderness just because I am a heavy sleeper. Grumbling to myself and reaching up to a nearby rock to help my self up, I yelped in pain as my arm slammed into the rock. Something wasn't right, finally pulling myself up I figured I must have been drugged... this wasn't Kevin, he didn't have the money to drug me for a prank. And then, as the haze of sleep left me, I looked around. A small stone bridge over a stream with a packed dirt path splitting off in five directions from it. Now I was really confused. What kind of kidnapper just leaves someone naked on a bridge in the middle of nowhere? And where the hell was I anyway?
