He knew that if he got the chance to do it again he would still decide on taking them with him on the journey, it was just that from time to time he would feel a little bit of sadness.
He wandered about what might happen to them if dragons caught up, no he actually knew, he knew that they would probably all die, it's just that he never wanted to think about it that deeply, and instead started thinking about ways to make them move faster.
"Yeah it is, but what can we do, the wind is on our side and we are already here, on the middle of the ocean with nothing around us, there's no return right now we can only go ahead." Robin said.
He also knew that they were slow, no actually most of the people in the ship understood that it's just that they could do nothing about it, so they just spent their days in fear and distress over what might happen when the great migration would finally end.
"If only we had someone with water or wind control ability, if that happened we would have been in a much better state." Robin added, after he saw Dan just stay silent after hearing his words.
"Yeah that would have made us go much faster, but unfortunately we don't have anyone with that kind of ability, we can try using the soul weapon to see if anyone among our group have that ability but unfortunately that would take a lot of time and without mentioning how small the chance of finding one is.
"Even if we do find one, his awakening would take a lot of time, and not to mention how powerfully their abilities would be after the awakening would they even be able to move Barbarossa? All of that isn't clear and we don't have time to do any of it." Dan said while shaking his head.
He had thought about what Robin said before, it's just that as he had just told him, there was a lot of parts that needed time which was something they needed a lot, and many other parts also depended on luck.
What Robin said made Dan thing about the abilities that people in his team had, Robin's teleportation, Katherine's lightning, his memory, even though it hadn't awakened entirely, Anie's ability which they weren't one hundred percent sure of, and finally Leonard's flame.
Those were the abilities that his team had, and unfortunately for them those abilities didn't seem to be of any use on the ocean.
"What's wrong." Seeing him fall into silence and act as if he was deep in thought Robin asked Dan who didn't react till the third time he was called.
"No, nothing I just was spacing out a little, I thought about the changes that we could have done on Barbarossa if we had enough time to do them." Dan sighed, if they had time and knew about Leonard's ability they would have been able to make some changes to Barbarossa, which would have made it stronger and faster.
"What can we do there's no point in regretting it right now, it had already passed and we simply didn't have enough time." Robin said.
"... But you know Leonard's ability can still be of use for us, even now." Dan said after thinking about it for a while.
"How is that?" Robin asked, he got interested in what Dan said, the days on top of the ship were boring, and with nothing to do, anything can get interesting.
"Here follow me, let us go and find him." Dan said, as he patted Robin on the shoulder and moved toward the interior of the ship, Robin could only follow after him.
They searched for a while till they finally found Leonard and Katherine on the dining room, they were setting there and chatting happily.
As they saw them enter, they smiled and said:
"Dan, Robin, how are you?"
"We are good, we were looking for you actually." Robin said while looking at Leonard.
"Me? What for?" Leonard asked in confusion.
"Don't know, Dan said that he found a way for you to help us in our journey by using your ability, and he didn't tell me how, he just dragged me here." Robin said.
After he finished his words everyone their looked at Dan, they wandered what he was going to ask Leonard to do,
This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.
especially Leonard himself he wanted to know what Dan wanted him to do.
Dan smiled as he saw them all look at him before saying:
"Actually it's not complicated at all or anything like that, it's something anyone can explain and think about."
The others all nodded their heads asking him to go on, after he stopped there.
"You see, even though we did our best to bring as much water as possible on the ship, it's still not enough, after all we don't know how much longer we are going to spend on the ocean, or if we are ever going to find an island or land with drinkable water, so water is actually one of the things that we should worry about the most, and here comes you and your ability." As he said that he pointed at Leonard.
"What I thought about was, what if we use your ability to boil ocean water, we will boil it till it become steam them we will collect it and cool it till it becomes water again, the new water would be drinkable and we will theoretically have an unlimited amount of it, what do you think?"
That was actually his idea, using Leonard's ability to make ocean water drinkable and deal with one of the problems that they had on Barbarossa, because even though they couldn't make her go faster they could at least deal with the other problems that they had on her, and the problem of water was one of the ones that they had to deal with the fastest.
Everyone there looked at each other, Dan's idea seemed feasible.
"Ok we can try it." Leonard nodded his head and said that.
He didn't find any reason to refuse, and he did want to be of help to the group so he accepted it right away.
"Ok, we will leave that as a last resort, if we see that we are having problems with water we will go with it." Dan smiled and said.
"Well just tell me whenever you want to do it." Leonard said.
They then talked together for a while before Dan said good bye and left, he was going to go and take a look at Thomas, he knew that his awakening was still far away but he wanted to at the very least see if he was good or if there was anything wrong with him.
Thomas was an important part of the team, and if they were able to leave that world and survive from the dragons, then his ability would be a great addition to them.
He could even make soul weapons with the right tools and materials, and what materials can be better than the bones, fangs and claws of a dragon and with Leonard's ability controlling fire and other things like that couldn't get easier.
With all that the rate at which their team become stronger would be faster, and their chance of survival would be bigger.
So he had to make sure that nothing bad would happen to him, and that his awakening was going well.
He didn't find him directly, instead he by chance met Nero, and by asking him where Thomas was he got the location.
Nero wasn't that happy about that as it reminded him of how the stronger members in the Royal Guard would treat him just like a tool to locate their friends or superiors.
Not knowing what Nero was feeling at all Dan left to the place that Nero pointed happily, Thomas was on one corner on the surface of the ship, he was there with his little son, the sun was going to set that night while they were asleep so he was playing with him on the surface of Barbarossa under the sun.
The soul weapon was still on his back, he held it proudly over his shoulder while standing there, the thought of him being able to make weapons that can have life, weapons that would feel and understand couldn't let him sleep at all in the night before, he just kept on thinking about the day when he would make his first soul weapon, he thought about what it might be, what materials he would use to make it, all of that and more passed through his mind preventing him from sleeping.
He just set there inside the blood bath with his mind going from something to the other.
Anyway as he was playing with his son and enjoying he warmth of the sun, he heard Dan's voice from next to him:
"Thomas, how are?"
Turning his head he saw Dan standing there next to him while smiling.
"I'm good, it's just that I didn't have a good amount of sleep." Thomas said.
"Why were you excited about the blood bath?"
"No I just couldn't sleep, that's all." Thomas, he didn't want to say that he couldn't control his excitement and ended up staying awake all night, as that seemed like something a little kid will go through.
"So, do you feel anything weird or new about your body?" Dan asked even though he knew the answer.
As expected Thomas just thought for a while before finally shaking his head and saying:
"No nothing, all is the same."
Dan smiled bitterly to himself, it seems that he got greedy after finding an abnormality like Katherine and a control freak like Leonard in his team, they were way too different from normal people, and judging people by their standers was a mistake he shouldn't do.
"That's normal, it will take a while before you start feeling some changes and for your ability to awake totally don't worry about anything." Dan told Thomas who was looking at him.
As they were talking Dan was saying that he happened to turn his head to one corner of the ship, and there he saw the weird gate keeper Allan, he was laying under the sun with his arms unfold, and right next to him he saw Randy who seemed as if he was enjoying the place there as much as Allan.
"Those two become friends?" Dan murmured to himself.
Thomas who was next to him was able to hear him, and by following where he was looking at he saw the two lazy cats lying there.
"Oh those two, yeah they did, your friend was passing through that place, and as he did he saw Allan there like a dead fish, I thought that Allan had gotten himself in trouble, but it seems that I was wrong, your friend just looked for a few seconds before he two laid there on the floor, and they had been like that for a while now, from time to time they would say something to each other and in most the other times they are just enjoying the warmth." Thomas said while shaking his head, he found the new team that he had become a part of quite weird.
When he saw Randy stand next to Allan, while looking at him he thought that he would at the very least wake him up and ask him about what he was doing, but he was wrong, Randy just laid there and started sunbathing the same as Allan, and after saying a few words to each other, they seemed as if they got along together quite well, making him a little bit speechless.
That and how Dan treated the normal people on the ship, and how he even gave them drops of dragons blood, made him have a better impression about Dan and the gang.
