What caught Dan's interest was Thomas's serious expression as he touched the scales and the claws of the dragon; he even lifted the upper lip of the dragon, before looking at and touching the dragon's teeth.
Seeing all of that he moved toward him and asked:
"What do you think, great materials right?"
Thomas was surprised at first but then he saw Dan as he turned his head to look so he said while shaking his head:
"Yes they are, unfortunately I don't have good enough tools to deal with them, if I try making anything with them I'll just waste them."
"And what if you get the right tools, would you be able to make something good out of this?" Dan asked again.
"... Yeah I think so, it will probably take me a while and I probably won't be able to bring those materials' full potential, but whatever I'm going to make out of this, is going to be a one of a kind, nothing I've ever made would be able to stand on front of it." Thomas said after thinking about it for a while.
"Actually I was going to ask you about this later, but as we are here now, I want to ask you, do you have something that can cut through the skin and muscles of this dragon?" Dan asked.
"I may have a few that can go through its skin and muscles, I'll give them to you later." thinking for a while Thomas finally said that.
"Ok we will go after everyone here takes a look at the dragon." Dan said.
They needed to deal with the corps of the dragon, and to see if there's anything that they would understand from it, or about the materials inside it.
Then Dan watched as Thomas kept on touching every part of the dragon's corps, when he finally finished he found that only him and Dan were on that part of the hold.
He found the dragon fascinating, it was worthy of being at the top of the food chain.
He also felt regret as he knew that he probably won't be able to use them to make anything, it wasn't that he didn't have the talent or the ability to do it, instead it was because, as he told Dan, he didn't have the tools to turn the materials to their perfect form as weapons or armors.
"I'm done lets go." Thomas said to Dan.
He knew that the only reason Dan waited for him till he finished was because he wanted the tools which he told him about, the ones that could be able to penetrate the skin and muscle of the dragon.
Dan nodded his head and followed as Thomas led the way, they didn't move for long before they stopped in front of a small room.
"You can enter." Thomas said, he was going to show Dan his treasured weapons and he wasn't going to bring them outside for everyone to see, instead he was going to let him see them inside his room.
Dan entered and as he did he found himself in a room like his, the only different was that it was a little bit bigger and had a bigger bed, no one was in the room neither the woman who was setting next to Thomas nor the boy who was in his lap.
Seeing Dan look around Thomas said:
"My wife and child are on the kitchen right now, she used to work in the one back at the base and she started working at it here too."
"Her cooking is good that I can say." Dan prized.
"Yeah she know how to cook, after all her cooking won me over." Thomas laughed, and then he added after a moment of silence.
"You know I'm not that found of you, or any of your other friends."
The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.
His words come as a surprise to Dan, but then he asked him calmly:
"And why is that?"
"You saw my child right, he's still small and he had a future, I don't know if its bright or not, but at the very least with my ability I would have been able to give him a good childhood, and pass him all my knowledge when time would come for him to learn my craft and live a good life, but right now because of you, I don't know if he is going to live to an old age or if he is going to die after two weeks when the dragons would return." Thomas said.
Those were his truest thoughts, when old Frank came to him asking him to get all his important belongings and move to Barbarossa, he felt that something was wrong but he still followed them to the base where he was told about the journey, about how they were going to try and leave their 'world' which become just a small part of a new bigger earth.
He didn't know what he was feeling when he heard that, he did feel tempted and excited as the thought of leaving that horrible place, and living in an area where there's no dragons or any other thing like that was a dream anyone in area 07 would exchange with their reality in any day.
But then he looked at his wife and his little son and felt fear for them, yes the thought of leaving that world was tempting, but the chance of it happening was small, not to mention the chance of Dan's words being wrong, just the chance of them being far enough so the dragons won't find them after they return from the Great Migration was small, so he felt fear for his wife and son.
But he also knew that he wouldn't be able to go against their leader's orders so he could only got on top of Barbarossa with a heavy heart.
That was the reason why he hated Dan and the others; it was because he was brought on top of the ship against his will.
"I know that you have a family and for you, their safety is the most important thing ever, and I'm really sorry for bringing all of you here, but I had to do that I needed someone like you and I needed your ability on the ship, so I'm really sorry but I don't really feel any regret making you go on top of Barbarossa." Dan said, then he added:
"and who knows maybe your son's life will be better with us then in the underground base, yes it is dangerous here but just think of this… what if we really make it out of here alive, how will your son's future be."
It might have sounded selfish, how he made someone follow him against his own free will but just as he said, he didn't regret it, he needed someone who had Thomas's ability on the ship and for the team he was going to take him with him.
Thomas stayed silent for a long while after hearing Dan's words, but then he sighed and moved to the bed, and dragged two big cases from under it.
"Right here are my greatest weapons, I made them using my best techniques and the best of my ability I don't think that I'll ever be able to make anything like them ever again." he said that while touching the two cases, he acted as if he was patting his son's head, with love and affection.
Knowing that he won't be able to change anything that had already happened, and how Dan and the others were the leaders of the group, he decided to just do his best in Barbarossa while wishing for the best.
He then opened one of the cases showing what was inside it, it was a close to two meters long, long sword, Thomas lifted the sword and handed it to Dan while saying:
"This was my first masterpiece I made it just using normal materials but for some reason it was able to cut through the other weapons which I made before as if it was cutting through butter, after making it and seeing how unique it was I hide it and decided to keep it for myself."
As soon as Dan held the sword and felt its weight on his hand he knew that it wasn't normal, he didn't know why he had that feeling it was his first time holding a weapon but that was what he felt, it was as if he was an expert who had tested and held thousands of swords.
Returning to his senses from that weird state he looked at Thomas and said:
"What about the other one" he felt that Thomas had left the best for the end, so he was quite curious about what was inside the other case.
Thomas nodded his head before opening the other case:
Inside it was a huge axe with a handle that was around a meter and half long and its head was a two headed axe, the whole axe gave the feeling of toughness and strength, it seemed as if it weighed around a fifteen or twenty kg.
As soon as he saw the axe, Dan put the sword from his hand and moved it toward the axe, he held it in his hand and tried lifting it, to his surprise he found that he had to put a lot more strength then he thought to move it, it seemed that its actual weight was way more than one hundred kg.
Coming to that conclusion he looked at Thomas in surprise, he didn't know how a normal weaponsmith without any good or acceptable tools was able to make something so unbelievable and unnatural.
"You felt it right, the weight of this axe is astonishing, it even surprised me when I tried lifting it for the first time, this is my most precious possession, I finished it just a few days ago, its weight isn't something you would expect from an axe its size, it was at least seven times heavier, and even I don't know why it ended up like this, and that's not the only thing, it's also way sharper then the sword that you just held." Thomas said as he saw Dan's astonished and shocked expression.
"Just a few days ago... Was it after the day when everyone lost consciousness?" Dan reflected over what Thomas said before asking him that.
"Yeah, it was the day after that, I was already working on this axe even before that but I finished it the day after everyone lost consciousness." Thomas nodded.
Hearing that Dan started smiling happily before saying:
"Ok I'll take those two, now can you follow me I have something to make sure of."
"Wait before that let me ask you, this is a great merit right?" as Dan was leaving the room in happiness he heard Thomas's voice asking him to stop.
Turning his head he saw Thomas smiling at him:
"I know what you want but just follow me, if what I'm thinking about is right, then what you might got won't be less important than a drop of dragon blood." Dan understood what he meant with those words as they were the same he used before, but he didn't promise him anything as he needed to make sure of something, which wasn't any less important or precious as a drop of dragon's blood.
Thomas didn't understood but he still followed Dan who had the two cases on his back, they moved around the ship from one place to the other, Thomas didn't understand what Dan was searching for till they met Robin who was setting on the top of the ship while looking at the stars and the moon.
It was quite weird as they had just woke up but the sun was nowhere to be seen, instead it was as dark as it could be.
