Chapter 3: Civilization.

Decided to upload this one earlier and then write 2 chapters tommorow if i have time. I've been quite busy today but it did not stop me from writing this chapter. So if i am free tomorrow i will make 2 chapters one for tomorrow and one for wednesday.

I hope you are all liking this so far. The story will be going extremely slow and will probably span a lot of chapters. This story is written on the top of my head as well so please do point out any plot holes or errors you may find.

I'd love if you comment or write reviews on what you think i should do or improve on.

And as always enjoy the chapter!

Chapter 3: Civilization.

Beryl hurried excitedly towards the clearing he was approaching. He could see small huts and houses scattered about and farmland. He could see one house that stood out. It was an explorers hut. The explorers hut was something all towns and some big villages had. There ordinary people could request certain ingridients or materials they needed and put up a price for gathering them. The towns mayor or village leader would also put up requests for clearing of monster dens or gathering more cattle. These of course payed out the most as it was important to not let monster dens thrive since they would eventually destroy the village or town if left alone. Beryl was not the brightest of people but he did learn quite fast. He knew if he was to get his revenge and protect his future close ones he had to have strenght to some degree. And right now was a perfect opportunity to gain connections, strength and at the same time money.

He could see that the farmland was well kept but there where still some grass mixed in it. Of course farming had not come a long way since it has been difficult keeping all of the farmland safe from monsters. The current system had come into effect only 500 years ago when a powerful hero had grouped with a lot of other heros to form a city. The city was named after the hero and was the most successful kingdom to exist. It is now in ruins though and the undead call it their home. The hero is still there but he is not alive anymore. He was corrupted and turned into a lich king which has been plaguing the lands near the ruins. The city is called Zanka and is now a place most people except some of the most well trained and experienced explorers. Even they don't make it out alive most of the time.

Of course Beryl knew nothing of this and had been walking to the explorers hut. The hut was small and looked to be made out of some kind of sturdy wood. It was built to hold 5 people at most since only one member of a group would need to look for a mission to complete. Usually requests would be handled by a group but solo explorers also existed. The solo explorers where often shady people but sometimes just people that had no explorer friends and had a hard time trusting others.

As he walked inside what greeted him at the reception was not a beautiful lady or a handsome young man but a man that had scales instead of skin. The man looked to be a lizard/human hybrid but since Beryl only knew some races from his parents stories he did not know what race he was. After the initial shock, Beryl quickly walked up and started introducing himself. "Excuse me?" I'm Beryl and i would like to see the request board." The lizard hybrid looked up from his desk and saw a young man with blonde disheveled dirty hair. He was carrying 3 makeshift tools as well wearing dirty rags that had been torn. He also noticed a rat sitting on the boys shoulder. "The board is hanging on the wall over there." Beryl immediately took a long look searching through the small bundle of requests. He found a couple he could complete with ease but chose one that would require a lot of effort on his part. He handed it in to the receptionist who hung it up on a board with a sign saying "In progress requests" over it. "You've got 20 days to complete the request or it will be removed and hung up for others to take." The lizard hybrid replied sternly before resuming his paperwork.

Beryl was now outside of the hut and headed straight for the forest. He was heading towards his first mission and he was really excited but also a bit worried. He had never fought before and taking out a den of wormlings was no easy task. Especially since there could be a queen worm nearby the den.

...

Yay we finally know how he looks like! Beryl i mean. Oh and i will try drawing him and putting it up on my deviantart. But it might look awful since i am a beginner artist.
