"A formidable monster appeared: the Heavenly Tiger, Orpheus."
Orpheus? Was that the beast that I...?
"Orpheus is one of the strongest beings throughout history, aside from the Athiris Magic Empire's Emperor, the God Slayer, and the Saeviel Holy Kingdom's Heroes of Trinity," the old man continued. "And Orpheus is also stronger than most Rank S monsters that exist in this world."
"In other words, that monster is not to be trifled with."
"That very beast arrived and settled in our village a few months ago, in quite an upset mood. Its intimidating aura scattered the low-level monsters that used to lurk around and that we used to hunt. In order to avoid being killed, we had no choice but to pay tribute of one full sack of sacred fruit to it every month."
"Those are the fruits of our village's only sacred tree. We use them to make life elixirs that can heal most mortal wounds. But thanks to that monster, our stock is dropping."
I listened to the old elf without saying a word.
"Until yesterday, in the middle of the night, we heard a series of explosions. We thought that Orpheus had finally decided to attack us, since the energy we felt that night was from that monster. After everything calmed down, we decided to check the source of all the commotion, and we found you," the old elf said with a smile on his face.
"Of course, we're not stupid. We immediately knew that you had fought with that beast, and since then, the beast has never appeared again in the forest. You are our hero," the old elf said as he placed his hand on my shoulder.
"Oh, I haven't introduced myself yet. I'm Aristeo Rafelon, one of this village's elders," the old elf said.
"Um, I'm..."
I hesitated for a moment. I'm not sure whether I should use my old name or my new name.
After a few moments, I made the decision.
"I'm Kagami Jin. It's nice to meet you. Oh, by the way, Kagami is my surname," I said with a smile. "Thank you so much for helping me, Elder Aristeo."
"No problem, you're the one who helped us first. It's a pleasure to meet you too, Jin-dono," the old elf said with a very nice smile.
I didn't really do anything, though. I just got thrown off of this world and immediately fought such a beast. I hope I'll never cross paths with it again. I have a feeling that it's still alive.
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
I hope I'm wrong.
"No need for formalities, Elder Aristeo," I said while scratching the back of my head. "By the way, can you tell me about the God Slayer and the Heroes of Trinity?"
I'm quite curious about them. They seem strong, and their names are cool, especially the God Slayer.
"Well, the Heroes of Trinity are three powerful individuals who killed the Demon King 15 years ago. Currently, their only mission is to protect the continent from monsters and evil," the elder elf explained. "However, the God Slayer is on an entirely different level from the heroes. He is comparable to a god."
"2000 years ago, an evil god descended upon this world. He was so evil that he wanted to destroy the world on a whim. However, seven heroes emerged. They battled the evil god, and four continents were destroyed and submerged into the ocean as they fought. After the long fight, the evil god was finally defeated, but the cost was the death of six heroes. Only one survived."
"As for that hero, he is now known as the God Slayer. And the place we live now is the only continent left in this world."
I got excited hearing the story. Stars were twinkling in my eyes.
"Then, does that mean the God Slayer lived until the present day?" I asked.
"Correct, after defeating the evil god, the surviving hero became immortal," the elder elf answered.
Well, I'm not really impressed. I'm so used to it. Even some of the elders on the island have lived for more than a million years. But well, for mortals like them, I guess living for a millennia or two is a miracle already.
The old elf and I chatted for a long while before he decided to get someone to tour and guide me through the village.
After a moment, a slender and tall girl entered my room. She had fox ears on her head, and I noticed four tails sprouting from behind her. She had brown hair and sharp eyes, and she was wearing a Japanese kimono.
She stared at me with indifference, then turned to the elder and said, "I'm here, Elder Aristeo."
"Thank you for coming," the elder said, then he turned to me and said, "This lass here is Kimura Mizuki, part of this village's Fox Clan. She's also one of the strongest warriors in this village."
Oh, a fox girl huh? Seeing her tail, she might be related to the nine-tailed fox in the mythologies.
"Mizuki, this hero here is Kagami Jin. Please be nice to him," the elder introduced me.
"Well then, I'll get straight to the point. Mizuki, can you do me a favor and show Jin-dono around our village? I'm sure he's tired of staying in bed all day," the elder elf asked.
"No problem, Elder," the fox girl, Mizuki, said seriously.
Hmm, I think she is the serious type, similar to Liuyan.
"Alright then, let's go, Jin-dono," the elder elf said as he walked towards the door. Mizuki and I followed closely. As my eyes met the outside world, they widened.
I witnessed a lively street full of different species of people, each with their own unique cultures. Such diversity, I'm not used to it.
There were stores and vendors on the sides, with customers bustling about. Everyone was living their own lives.
There were towering trees wherever I looked, and the natural landscape made me open my eyes in awe.
Birds were chirping in the trees, and cute animals were running around.
Out of nowhere, the elder elf patted my shoulder.
"Do you like the scenery?" he asked.
"Yes, this is new to me," I said with a genuine smile.
I was a prince of my clan back on the Taiyi Continent, and I was busy cultivating in solitude, so something like this is new to me.
"Hahaha, I'm glad to hear that. Now, I welcome you to our Sycamore Village!"
