CHAPTER 3
Around 5 minutes after I enter the forest I hear a scraping sound like a knife to metal, I hurry to investigate the source of the sound. ‘As I thought, It’s a battle.’ It’s between a sneasel and a sandshrew that looks polar adapted.
Their battle is nearing its end. The sneasel has a limp wrist and minor bruises, while the sandshew has lost both its eyes. The cruelty of life as a pokemon hits me, we have to kill and eat each other just to survive. It’s me or them I repeatedly state.
I sneak forward and hide very nearby behind a tree. My senses sharpen and my muscles tense. I find an opening when the sneasel retreats fortunately close to my position. I ‘extreme speed’ towards the sneasels back, it turns its back just to glimpse me break its spine with a bite.
I turn to the sandshrew who punches me and simultaneously gashes me in the face with its claws, I'm thrown a meter from the sheer force of it. ‘This is strange, its claws are stubby and rounded so how was it able to cut a gash in my face’. I take another look at its claws and notice a metallic sheen on them, it must have been a move I deduce.
The shrew senses an opportunity of escape, It attempts to run away but Tom doesn’t let it; he launches himself from his pocket and throws mid air a sticky sparkling net that electrifies and incapacitates the shrew.
Damn Tom you’re awesome, thanks a lot for the help. I pet him with my mind then walk towards the shrew, then filled with ravageful rage I tear off its neck. I let Tom finish it while I go to kill the sneasel who’s bleeding out on the ground.
Congratulations! Evert grew to level 6! (+2)
Evert learned Tailwhip! Effect; the user wags its tail in a cute way making the target less weary.

I munch on the meat of its limbs before I and Tom continue through the forest. Along the way we defeat 3 more sneasels and run from a sandslash. In the end I level up twice again, and only sustained an additional gash on my other cheek, courtesy of my mistake.
Finally when the sun rises, we are very tired from our ordeals, so when we reach a hollow in a tree I climb up and take a nap inside.

I wake due to the sun in my eyes, and notice the gashes are all gone. Thank Arceus for pokemon biology. I check that Tom is still on my back, and then jump outside. My current goal is to become stronger, and maybe find a warmer environment, but it isn't very needed. Ever since I leveled up I’ve become a lot less bothered by temperature. Maybe I grew denser muscles?
I leave the thinking for another day and start my stroll through the forest, I am strangely once again very hungry. This is strange, really strange.

About 5 minutes later I happen upon a group of pokemon that look like snow covered trees, from the waist down they are covered in bark, they have stubby feet, pine green hands and a bowl cut.
I observe them from afar. They seem to be migrating and are being led by a … yeti pokemon and are following a path. I remember the yeti from yesterday when I saw only a silhouette of it in the blizzard.
I follow the flock through the forest path till we meet a clearing, a clearing full of fully bloomed snow flowers. It’s a really pretty sight, shame I want to spill blood. I prowl close to the forest edge and choose a tree thing to eat. I leave the edge but immediately when the first snow flake hits me the yeti thing turns around, now aware of my presence.
Shit. I immediately run the opposite direction as fast as I can, the yeti follows too, taking long strides and gathering lots of momentum, increasing its speed. I had a head start but it will catch me within seconds at its current pace. I ‘extreme speed’ forward, finally outmatching the Yeti’s pace.
But immediately I feel my muscles burn and bone ache. ‘I have to hold it, I have to continue’ I motivate myself, my body knows that it’s either being mauled to death or perhaps surviving, straining itself for the latter.
Within 3 seconds of holding the move hear loud popping noises from my legs
Within 5 I feel my tendons on the edge of tearing.
Within 7 the yeti finally turns back to its way but the damage has already been done. I stop mid move, tumble and roll on the ground like a cartoon character. I can’t feel my legs, oh arceus. I eventually crawl out of the path and pass out near a tree.
