Chapter 001: Explosive Rebirth

Chapter 001: Explosive Rebirth

A bit of time had elapsed since I met with God. At the moment the time of my rebirth is only seconds away. Thankfully I didn’t have to wait long for my new body to be born; I could only imagine the torture my mind would’ve gone through if I had to wait. I felt as my body was gently grabbed and pulled out of my mother’s womb. Although it was hard to tell due to my sight not being properly developed yet, a sense of light was projected through my eyelids.

I should say that although this body is my own, sometime instinct still kicks in and overpowers my better judgement. Due to the disturbance of my sleep and the sudden sheer coldness I ended up crying. Well, to be honest, that’s how I would also normally act so it’s difficult to say that this particular instance was that of involuntary instinct. What, isn’t an elderly man allowed to sleep as long as he desires? Although right now I suppose I’m a child, but the point still stands.

After the basic procedure of a baby being born was over and done with I was wrapped in a warm and cozy blanket. Enough so that it soothed me back into calmness. I should also mention that although I hear people around me, I can’t understand what they’re saying. I guess language comprehension wasn’t part of the packaged deal.

Now that I was in a less cramped space I attempted to my body a bit, mainly so that I could at least get a feel for it. This was easier said than done. Control over this body was at bare minimum, it wouldn’t react the way I wanted it to. Well I was in the body of a newborn so I guess that was to be expected. Talking also proved fruitless as the most that came out was an incomprehensible gurgle.

The voice that was closest to me sounded rather high-pitched, at least compared to those around me. Given that I deduced that I was currently in my mother’s arms, most likely being cradled like some precious treasure. I just wish I could understand what they were saying. Though my senses were still being developed and rather dull, I did manage to feel a slight peck on my forehead. The culprit, more than likely, was that of my new mother.

I began to think of a plan of action to take during my childhood years. First off, fuck that analogy of keeping my reincarnation a secret. I want to learn all about this world, and the sooner the better. Maybe I will keep my identity of me being an old man a secret, if only not to creep out my new parents enough to try to get rid of me, but instead I’ll simply play the role of a child genius or something. After all, it’s not as though I’m carrying some important mission right now that requires me to keep everything a secret.

Now that I think about it I wonder how much mana I have. Though I had been just a soul for a little bit of time, I did feel something different in me. If I had to take a guess then it would be the mana I had ascertained throughout my lifetimes. Wanting to get a feel for it so I could begin practice controlling it, I mentally reached out towards it. It took a bit of time to learn how to do so, but I eventually managed to get a sense for it. With a slight mental touch the mana in my soul responded to me. The mana, undulating with power, felt as grand and expansive as an ocean.

As thoughts of what to do to the mana raced in my head, a slight discomfort steals my focus. My stomach felt as though it was in knots, honestly it was quite uncomfortable. After some time the pain went from something like a small sting to having my organs grinded in a meat grinder. From there my bones and muscles began to strain as they screamed out in pain. A headache, felling as though my brain was going to implode, overtook me.

It was as if my entire being was going through a literal hell right now. Those in the room also seemed to be in a panic as I could hear their frantic voices while my mother cradled me in her arms. Sounds of snapping and popping could be heard internally. I didn’t know what was happening to me, but I was certain of at least one thing. Things were bad.

As the pain continued to escalate to the point where death seemed like relief to me, another sensation could be sensed. My soul felt as though it was expanding, so much so that my body began to feel like an overinflated balloon about to burst. I noticed the mana within me churning like a raging storm. It was at that point that I realized what was happening.

With that realization came two final sounds. A loud bang and that of gasping was what followed suit. I could only remain floating there as a soul, now able to see and sense all of what was around me. Blood-stained crimson red. That was the only color I could see plastered all around room. Even those in the room were no exception to this. My mother, well ex-mother, remained wide-eyed with her mouth agape as she stared at her trembling, empty, bloody hands.

For quite a while nothing but silence came from the room. I could only sigh in pity at what had occurred. Due to my overwhelming mana, the child body I had couldn’t sustain its power and ended up exploding because of it. Thinking on it now those of this world should have the ability to wield mana in their bodies. If this happened here, then what would have happened to me if I were to have reincarnated on Earth? Would the explosion be worse?

Not wanting to hear those in the room grieve and freak out I immediately moved away. Thanks to being a soul I was able to phase through the walls and exit the building I was in. If there was one good thing about my life it was the fact that my loner attitude allowed me to ignore the problems of others relatively easy. While it may sound heartless, it allowed me to avoid unnecessary trouble.

After I had left I roamed around the area for a bit, trying to get used to moving as a soul. Eventually I had felt a bit tired which led to me learning that simply remaining a wandering soul actually took a toll on my mana. While I did have a lot I didn’t want to find out what would happen if it were to run out.

Trying to figure out a way to preserve myself I began trying to draw in the mana in the atmosphere towards me. While it was difficult at first I was luckily able to figure out how mana felt due to it leaving my soul to stabilize it. From there it was a matter of sensing the area around me to feel for the mana and drawing it towards me. I wasn’t entirely sure if it was because I was simply a soul or if it was some type of inlaid talent, but the task became relatively easy for me after a while.

Unfortunately for me there were plenty of things in this world that I had no clue on how they functioned. As a result I ended up with quite the predicament. Due to absorbing the mana around me, coupled with my already mass reserves and consciousness, I ended up creating a body of my own.

While this may sound good and amazing there was a problem with how it was done. You see there are special creatures in this world that are born through a variety of means. One of these creatures happens to be born when a massive amount of mana concentrates on a single point, and a consciousness is born due to it. The end result is what I ended up becoming.

Looking down at myself right now I can see my form. Five fingers each hand, two hands, two arms, a torso, two legs, and two feet. Of course I also had a head, but that I couldn’t currently see. All in all I appeared just as a human does. Well, a human silhouette at least. As far as color was concerned I was azure blue. Yup, my entire body, from head to toe, was an azure blue color. Silver decor lines also covered me, giving a unique look. As far as eyes went they were a completely white abyss.

My hair also has two ridiculously long strands that act as an antenna of sorts; they began from the area of my bangs and rise slightly over my hairline before arching back and reaching halfway down my back.

The most inhumane things about my appearance though were the small wings that grew from my back. They were fairly light and transparent, and I was even able to withdraw them if I so choose to. In this world the creature I ended up become was something known as a Faerie, often shortened as Fae.

“Haaah~ I hope things don’t get more troublesome for me.”

With a sigh I speak out my thoughts, one that will surely be a precursor of things to come.
