Youko’s Lovely Life of Weirdness

I was really weak when I was little. I got sick very often so mother had to take care of me all the time. Sometimes father also would take care of me, ignoring his chief duties. I was really grateful for them.

But at the same time, I felt really bad.

So, at that time I decided to get better and help my parents instead.

Here in the wolf youkai village, even females can be head chief. And I intend to be head chief after father retires. I have to work hard so father can be in relief and leave the chief work to me.

To become the head chief, you need the favor of everyone in the village. That was my first hurdle to overcome. It's not like they hated me or anything. In fact, everyone was very nice to me, since I’m the daughter of the head chief. But I know they can’t feel safe if a weak girl like me was to become head chief.

I tried really hard to help everyone in the village. Foraging, Hunting and Cooking. I did everything I could. Little by little, the image of me changed from a helpless little girl to a helpful and reliable girl.

So, I told father to let me become head chief. He refused at first but everyone went and convinced father. He told me after 3 years; he will retire and make me head chief. I was really happy.

In the mean time I will help mother by doing household chores. After a few months, I become an older sister. Mother gave birth to a little brother. Wolf youkais grow really fast, so in a year, he was able to walk and help us as well. He was really clumsy and couldn’t do even the most mundane thing. So he would come crying to me to help him. I had to help him every time.

But that didn’t bother me, since it’s my responsibility as an older sister to take care of him.

“Onee-chan, who is she?”

Haiki is calling for me. Huh, that’s strange, usually I am the one to wake him up.

When I wake up and open my eyes, I see an unfamiliar person lying next to me.

It’s a little girl with dark long hair and pale skin. I am pretty sure I haven’t met this person, yet she feels somehow familiar.

“Haiki, was she here when you woke up?”

The Blood Maiden huh. She does look like the Blood Maiden paintings I see on children’s books. I thought it was just a fairytale.

The Blood Maiden. She is a vampire that lived in a mansion at the Lost Forest. The mansion was here even before the Lost Forest was known as the Lost Forest. The wolf youkai village was established some 100 years after the Lost Forest. So the Blood Maiden is very old, contrary to her body figure. And she is very powerful. Vampires are known to have very powerful magic in general but the Blood Maiden’s magic is even more powerful. She has a unique magic that only she can use; People call it “Divine Magic”.

The Blood Maiden can manipulate almost anything using that magic. But that’s not all of the power she possesses. She also wields a sword known as the “Space Divider”. It is said to cut through everything. The name “Space Divider” is given to the sword by the Blood Maiden herself. She doesn’t get involved with people much and stays in her mansion most of the time.

But one day when a dragon came to attack the wolf youkai village, the Blood Maiden came here and slayed the dragon with only one slash. No one know the reason why she saved the village but everyone in the village was very grateful to the Blood Maiden. She was worshipped as a goddess. That day she left without saying a word. But frequently came to the village and bestowed wisdom upon us. One day when she came, She saw a statue of her slaying the dragon that was made by the wolf youkais. She said to engrave the words “Space Divider” to the sword, and told us that it was the name of the sword.

She visited the village for almost a year and suddenly stopped coming. Worried, some of the head figures of the village tried to visit the mansion of the Blood Maiden. But they weren’t able to go there because the kept getting lost because of the Lost Forest. After we gave up, a woman dressed in black and white came to the village and said the Blood Maiden has fallen into a deep slumber and won’t wake up in a very long time.

The Wolf youkais were sad that the Blood Maiden wouldn’t come visit anytime soon. The black and white woman didn’t tell why the Blood Maiden has fallen into the deep slumber. The wolf youkais quickly parted into two factions; One believed that the Blood Maiden will one day come to visit the village again and the other faction believed that the Blood Maiden got tired of the village and is using the excuse of falling into a slumber as an excuse to not come here.

The faction that didn’t believe the Blood Maiden kept saying things like she was the one to send the dragon here in the first place and that she wanted to turn us into her slaves. The other faction of course didn’t like that they kept disrespecting the Blood Maiden whom saved the wolf youkai village.

At first, we argued, but quickly it escalated to fighting and the village also parted into two villages.

In the books, it said that happened 1200 years ago.
