Chapter 14: Another Sense Gained

- Root Control has reached Lv.2 and Optical Root has reached Lv.2. -

Oh? Oh yes!

hmmm, perheaps...

At the moment i could only control the optical root and, if i tried REALLY hard, slightly control the others. However, I found the matter of controling all my roots so hard that all i could acomplish was making them wiggle.

As such, I sort of came to the conclution that i could control more roots if my level of root control increased. And so it has!

In a flash, I picked a random root and sent it shooting towards the skies.

I turned my eye that way and was greeted with a small, white strand effortlessly punctuing the ground.

...No matter how many times i see it, it still looks so... Wierd.

The root wiggled in the air a bit as if unused to the air and then turned to me. Well, I made it turn towards me, but... It didn’t feel as if I was doing it.

- Root has entered atmosphere and can thus mutate. What sense would you like? -

Oooooh yessss, even better!

what are my choices!?

- Sense of:

Smelling.

Hearing.

Taste. -

Aha, so the list shortened cuz I’ve already got one?

- Indeed. -

Ehe, pulled a new response outta ya, did I?

- Yes. -

...Alright the-,

- So it would seem. -

Aha! I knew it!

- Knew what? -

You DO have a sense of humour!

- I have nothing of the sort. -

Ehehehehhe, you can hide it from yourself, but you cant hide it from me~

- ... -

Well, to respect your wishes, I will ask you to aquire me the sense of hearing!

- Do you confirm: Hearing. As the Roots mutation? -

Yes! Gladly!

- The Root will now Mutate. As this procedure has already been used, this will not take as long of a while as it did the last time. -

Oh. Great!

I quickly and happily turned my attention to the root in front of me.

...

- ...Preperations finnished. -

Already!?

Whoa, this really is quicke-,

I felt that burning sensation once more. Somehow, i kept my eye open in order to witness the miracle of root-mutation.

The pain was almost worse then the last time, but i kept my eye on the prize.

Soon i saw glowing, pale lights flow from the base of the root to its very tip, where the root started chrling up into a small ball to contain it all. it started shining quite brightly and pleasantly.

However, the light was not a nice one. It made the surrounding shine up, indeed, but something about it was wrong. Something about that light was... Terrifying.

Soon enough i could see the last light enter the root-ball and stay there.

The ball started to take form. It begun by sort of... Melting.

It took the form of a sleek, white ball, shining only faintly with it’s hollow light.

The pain i had been stoically ignoring faded and was replaced with a pleasant warmth.

As I brought my eye closer to it, i noticed it wasnt quite sleek. it was covered by some sort of strange dust.

However, the second i thought the event was over, a terrible ringing assulted my ears with frightening vigor. I could clearly see my ear fall to the ground, writhing about in pain.

The ringing felt like standing inside the bells of Notre Dame whilst they sing.

It was as powerfull as a lightning bolt striking bulls-ear.

It was as deafening as the blades of a hellicopter.

It was terrible.

I think the Voice tried to calm me, but i couldn’t hear her.

However, i knew what i had to do.

Simply writhing about wouldn’t help in the least.

And so, wothout a care for the terrible head-ache i was developing and the horrible, horribe ringing, i let both my eye and my ear shoot for the stars.

At first i thought we would come crashing down due to the weight of the ear and eye, but, as i noticed perheaps a litle too late, both the ear and the eye were no larger then the head of a needle.

After only a few seconds, both senses were above the forest. the view was magnificent.

The lush trees painted the surroundings a deep green that was somehow not overbearing. However, as i quickly noticed, the sun was rising. The previously charcoal-black sky had started being flooded with light pink and deep yellows. In the distance i could see the dawn conquering the night, and i felt that all was as it should be.

The ringing had ceased, and was replaced with the pleasant rustle of trees.

In the light of the rising sun i could see that the trees were in fact of a brighter and livlier countenance, and i concluded, with a smile in my heart, that it was Spring.
