The Viscount's Investment

The Viscount's Investment

Stumbling on the ground after feeling as if all of his energy has been drained out of his body Fenric gathers his thoughts and picks himself up from the ground.

"Mr. And Mrs. Weaver I am very pleased to tell you that your child is adored by the gods. The amount of mana he exerts is on par with the children of nobility."

"He will surely be a great addition to humanity's army. I will head to Viscount Drytan at once to notify him of Elaric right now and he values talent over all so you need not worry about prejudice against commoners. I will be sure to bring you good news."

"So you are not going to tell me what my powers are?" Elaric gets disappointed thinking he now has to figure out his powers all on his own.

His parents still shocked beyond belief don't know what to do so they just return home after thanking Priest Fenric as much as they can.

Immediately after Elowen puts Elaric to sleep the two head outside to discuss the unbelievable events that happened right after Elaric was born. Elaric tries feeling the energy that he felt back at the temple again and again but to no avail.

Without stopping Elaric continues to try until finally after hours he feels energy that could burn steel but still cozy inside his body.

He is surprised by how much energy which is so hot and yet not very hot exists at all much less his body.

Priest Fenric finally reaches viscount Drystan and quickly heads inside to meet him. Inside the office is a man with hair as white as snow and eyes as blue as the sky looks over to the Priest as if he will freeze him with merely his gaze.

"What brings you here Fenric?" "My lord a child with child equal to your daughter or maybe even higher has been born today."

"So what? The matter of other counties is none of my concern." Drystan answers in a disappointed tone. "He was born in your county sir."

"What?! Which baron has blood noble enough to rival my offspring?"

"He is of no noble blood sir. He is but a commoner and I can guarantee that he is no bastard child. So I am here to ask for financial aid so we don't lose a possible great warrior to hunger."

"Ask whatever amount you think is required for the child to live comfortably to my treasury accountant. Here take this badge, this will be the proof of my authorization."

Drystan throws a badge shaped like a wolf to Fenric. "Are you not concerned that I may steal some for my benefit sir?"

"I hope you do so I will have an excuse to cut down your throat. Be sure to raise the kid well so he can at least be a decent sparring partner for my daughter. I don't like investments ending up worthless. Understood?!"

Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.

"Thank you sir I will be sure to address your kindness to the Weaver family adequately."

Elaric now tries to gather the energy on his left hand having the image of Kamehameha in his head.

"I guess it will take a long time before I can throw lights outside of my body. I should probably hide my progress since I am not sure if the use of magic itself might be prohibited outside of school." Elaric just falls asleep feeling tired after mentally exhausting himself.

Outside the house, Elowen and Garrick are discussing Elaric and his future.

"Dear, should I start working too? Our son will probably want to go to a magic academy like everyone else with powers. But even if get a scholarship our yearly income won't be able to pay for one month of school fees."

"No honey! How can I allow you to do this? Let's wait for Priest Fenric. As he said viscount Drystan values overall that's why he rules over a county despite being just a viscount."

"That is for mere appearances dear. Nobles don't care about us nor will they ever. We can rely on no one but ourselves."

"Even if that is the case we have no other choice honey and what benefit does Visount Drystan gain through valuing talent besides ridicule from other nobles? Even if you were to work for 16 years for Elaric's studies normal books alone cost our income for two years so we will only be able to afford all the books that he will need nothing more."

"Right now we can only rely on Viscount Drystan's kindness nothing more." cursing themselves for only ever being able to rely upon other's kindness for their survival they go to sleep.

The night passes and the sun rises shining rays on Elaric's eyes and waking him up. Elowen notices her son and rushes to his side.

"Ah... My baby must be hungry. Come here Mama will feed you." with a smile Elowen pulls her son towards her breast. Elaric struggles again but to no avail being helpless against his mother Elaric gives up altogether.

"Sweetie Mama will be right back okay." Elowen heads to the kitchen to prepare food for Garrick after putting Elaric in his crib.

"What is it that I am missing exactly? I remember the gods sending me here so I spread kindness to this world but so far I have not seen darkness but only kindness. Well, it is probably because I have only met my parents and the priest so fat. Maybe this world is not as grim as the gods cut it out to be or is this world going to fall in darkness and then my task here begins. It is far too early to conclude so my best is to just focus on developing my powers."

Elaric starts his self-imposed training to collect his energy on one hand. He continues his training by falling asleep and waking up again to continue non-stop mostly because there is absolutely nothing else he can do.

This continues on until the evening when he is finally able to gather a large amount of energy in his left hand which begins illuminating a faint light, a result which he had not expected.

Garrick returns home back from the forest and immediately asks Elowen if there is any news from the priest. Disappointed by her answer he begins to think if they will ever be able to fulfill their child's wishes when Priest comes knocking on the door.

Garrick hastened to open the door asking about Viscount's response.

"My greatest apologies Mr. and Mrs. Weaver I should have first informed you of Viscount's response. He said he would cover all expenses that you may need for his good upbringing so I went to buy a house since yours is far too small to accommodate our young genius. Follow me I will lead you to your new home and these men will be carrying your belongings."

Elaric notices how the priest disrespected his parents by buying a house for them himself rather than providing the funds to his parents.

He reminds himself to be wary of everyone as he along with his family follows the priest to the outskirts of the central area of the county where rich merchants who are not rich enough to buy the status of nobility reside.

"Men take the goods inside."
