Thea paced the floor of Samantha’s bedroom. “Look, I’m sorry I was such a bitch earlier.” She sighed, “I didn’t want to avoid you at dinner, but I just needed time.”
Samantha nodded, “I understand.”
She sat on the bed beside her sister, “Are we okay?”
Samantha grabbed her hand with a gentle smile. “Of course we are Thea. You may not always agree with what I do, and I don’t always agree with you, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t okay.”
Thea felt a calming sensation start to tingle through her body, and she rolled her eyes. She pulled her hand away from Samantha’s, “You know I hate it when you do that.”
Samantha’s cheeks turned a shade of pink. She’d known what she was doing, she just hoped Thea wouldn’t catch on. She should have known better than that. “Sorry,” she replied, eyes to the ground.
Thea stood with a sigh, “Look, I don’t like her, at all. But if you do, then, I’m not going to stop you, and as your sister, I will do my best to be supportive.”
“Thanks Thea, that means a lot!” Samantha smiled.
“But,” she started, “If she does anything to hurt you, I will kill her.”
Samantha just shook her head, “Understood.”
Thea gave Samantha a quick hug before leaving her bedroom and quietly walking across the hall to her own. She reached the door and paused before turning the knob. “Hmmm?” She could sense that something was off, but she couldn’t quite place it.
She opened the door and walked inside to an uncomfortable darkness, a wave of anxiety washed over her as she fumbled for the light switch. She took a deep breath and tried to calm herself, reaching for the switch one more time. This time she managed to find it with ease and quickly flipped it on. It took several seconds for her eyes to adjust to the dynamic lighting change.
Souma hadn’t had a chance to think about where he was going to go, so he dashed into the shadow beneath her bed. He watched as Thea’s feet moved slowly about her room. His heart was beating in his throat even though he knew that she wouldn’t be able to see him even if she checked his hiding spot.
Once her vision sharpened, she glanced curiously around the room. Nothing looked out of place, yet she could feel another presence in the room. “Hello?” she called out. “Is someone there?” Her gaze fell upon her naginata leaning against the wall, and an odd sensation overcame her and she couldn’t shake it. Her ability was a form of psychometry, and sometimes she just knew when an object had been imprinted with strong images or feelings.
When that happened, she had a feeling similar to this. Her power was still a little sketchy, giving her flashes when she touched things whether she was aware they were imprinted or not, so she was still unused to this feeling of just knowing. Anxious about what she might find, and about the idea that it couldn’t be her own feelings or images, she crept over and inhaled a deep breath before touching the pole of her weapon.
He watched as her feet moved toward her weapon and a panic spread through him that he couldn’t place. He wished that he could come out of hiding, he didn’t want to be deceiving her, but it was either that or death. He was sure that if he came out of hiding, her naginata would be shoved through his chest without a second thought.
As soon as her shaking fingers met the intricately designed pole of her naginata, she felt as if she had been transported into another person's mind. She let go and stared at her hand before glancing around her room once again. Someone had been here, and within the last few hours while she had been out of the room. They may even still be here, using some kind of hiding ability that she wouldn’t be able to see through. The slight impression of the person she got from that brief touch was still on her skin, making her pretty sure that whoever it was was close by still. Beads of sweat formed on her face as she drew in another breath before touching her weapon again, this time ready for the pull of her power.
The room was dark, only small beams of moonlight peeked through the open spaces in the curtains. The naginata against the wall was smooth, the hand touching it’s surface was larger than her own. “This is a beautiful weapon.” The voice was male, but she couldn’t quite place it, his breathing was controlled and movements steady. “I bet she’s sexy as hell when she uses it.”
“Hmmm.” She heard her own voice in the distance.
Thea let go of her naginata. “I know you are in here,” she called out, unable to keep her voice from trembling. “You wouldn’t have had time to leave, so where are you hiding?”
How does she know that I wouldn’t have time to leave? He thought for a moment, she knows I’m here, shit. He could come up with a reason for being there, or he could run. He watched her feet move further away and her beautiful legs came into view as she moved toward her bathroom. Run. That was the plan, he just had to wait for an opportunity.
Thea flipped the light on in her bathroom catching a glimpse of herself in the mirror. She looked pale with fright but alone, the room behind her silent. She tiptoed over to the bathtub and quickly pulled back the blue shower curtain. Nothing. She heard what sounded like a click and ran out of her bathroom.
Souma stood on the other side of the door breathing heavily. He heard footsteps coming down the Thomas hallway and he slid over into a shadow, disappearing from sight. God, why am I such an idiot? I didn’t even have to use the damn door! He smacked his head with the palm of his hand, just seeing Thea made him scatterbrained.
Her bedroom still looked empty, but she knew that she wasn’t crazy. She ran across the room and grabbed the door handle to look out into the hallway, trying to catch her stalker.
The door handle turned quietly. He heard the swish of the shower curtain being pulled back. ‘Shit, shit, shit!” he thought as he slipped outside quietly and closed the door behind him with a click.
“What the hell is going on?” she asked herself, opening the door once the vision ended. She looked outside of her room and saw nothing but the dimly lit hallway. She closed the door, and considered going over to Samantha’s room and quickly pushed that idea away. If she said anything, it would only worry the other girl and probably put her on a violent warpath to find the person that had snuck into the room. “Well, it looks like I am sleeping with my lights on tonight,” she decided with a sigh, walking over to her bed and pulled a book off of her nightstand as she dropped onto the bed to try and settle in, hoping sleep would find her soon.
Souma waited until after Thea’s beautiful figure studied the hallway and shut the door before shadow stepping out of the dorms. That was close, he thought. He wanted to talk to her, he wanted to get to know the beautiful woman that he knew wouldn’t give him the time of day. He often hated being a Kazegami, but now he hated it even more. “I have to get to know her.” he said to himself as he appeared inside his own dorm room. The darkness welcomed him and even though he felt bad for scaring the beautiful young woman, it took no time at all for him to settle himself to sleep.
