Another flurry of psychic arrows flew from Fartooth’s outstretched hand. One struck its mark, but the others failed to land. Still, that one did strip away the last shred of the protective field that Torm had surrounded himself in, and drew a bit more blood. Giving us more time to strike telling blows.

Seeing the opening, I dived in with a flurry of my own. The first strike to the god’s shoulder imparted the fury of my eldritch power, but the second blow was a devastating upwards slash, cutting deep across his groin. As the god staggered at the blow, my third strike took him across the chest. “Hey, Indsamling! How long do you think it will be before Torm the Craven runs off like a scared little child? Do you think he’ll cry? Or will he beg for mercy? He looks like a crier, to me.”

Insamling laughed as he unleashed another hailstorm of magic missiles at Torm. Seriously, it was to the point where it broke all known bounds of the spell. Most likely it was something to do with the Transcendent Soul business. Either way, the missiles definitely hurt Torm, though I expect the mocking laughter hurt more. “Oh, my sweet little raven, you are being too kind to the pathetic godling. Why, you didn’t even mention how he was likely to soil his armor with divine shit and piss, or how he would probably run off, leaving his mount behind. Yes, I expect that, from one end of the continent to the other, he shall be known as Torm the Unclean.”

“Insolent worms!” Torm coughed out, as he regained his balance. He concentrated for a moment, and then healing light fell on both him and his mount, restoring some of his wounds. As the divine aura surrounded him again, he spat, “I will not tolerate your insults! You will die here, and then I shall tear down all that you have built, and raise up a new kingdom in my name, so that all might know the glory of Torm!”
The dragon turned its head around, and breathed back upon the ground beneath it. The ghostly sentinels surrounding him were wiped out by the flames, but Indsamling somehow managed to evade the fire’s touch altogether. However, the dragon’s eyes turned to Vestele, and the dragon heart sitting next to her (which had not disappeared when Torm’s healing spell washed over him), and he snarled, “You will burn for that, witch!”

“Come now, Mistress!” Sanvi laughed as another blast of sonic energy struck Torm upon the spine. “Surely you didn’t think that a ritual the likes of which he had my father invoke would be without consequence?” She laughed again as the god turned a rage-filled gaze towards her. “You forget, oh Torm, that I am an Archmage who has studied the very fabric of magic for over a century! I know full well the weakness of that ritual, just as I knew how to free myself from it, and my father’s chains! The presence of a true deity in the material plane is not something that can be overlooked. Even with the sacrifice of all those celestials, the price for his presence here is that he can neither teleport nor cross the planes of his own volition until the target of his summoning is dead. So long as you live, my Queen, he is trapped here!”

Vestele just smiled as she looked at the dragon heart next to her, ignoring the dragon’s threat with studied nonchalance. “Fascinating. So healing magic regenerates the heart, instead of drawing it back into the creature’s breast? Honestly, I am so glad that I have this chance to experiment!” And then, with another flare of spellwork, a second dragon heart was sitting next to her in the snow. “The alchemists at the capital are going to love me. Two ancient dragon hearts in the same day? They’ll be fighting for the chance to use these as reagents!”
Siora’s CL Check: 1d20+34 = 38 (Success)
Dragon’s Will Save (Dominate Monster): 1d20+14 = 31 (Failure)
“Well, since the Dragon’s magic is the only way for Torm to escape the trap he set himself, let us take that out of play, for a while.” Siora’s words made me realize that I had forgotten that the dragon was a spellcaster, as well, and might know the Teleport spell, at the least, if not the Plane Shift spell. However, that worry was quickly quelled as the dragon’s body went rigid, and the beguiler’s will dominated its own. Of course! The dragon couldn’t take Torm away from here if it was on our side until it died!

Fartooth’s shots flew fast and furious, but the little kobold was unable to land any of his blows upon Torm’s divine flesh. Each shot deflected off his armor, or the magical protections he had in place. Perhaps if his mental arrows had the same qualities as my blade, it would be different, but there was no sense wishing for things that could not be.

“Oh, dear! Poor little Torm forgot that sometimes the prey knows how to fight back? His little head got too full of his own speech, and he did not realize that gods have died before, and they can be made to die again?” I laughed, continuing my taunting of the god. If he was truly trapped here, without the wyrm to break him free, and no loyal subjects to come to his aid, then it was possible that we really could end this. Once, twice, thrice, four times my blade lashed out, and four times divine flesh felt its cold, shadowy sting.
As I finished my attack I smiled at the god, looking him dead in the eye. “How did the words go, again? ‘Upon the day that fire comes to the sea of ice, a woman with golden hair shall bring about the death of a god’, yes? Your arrival was heralded by golden flames upon the glacier, which looks not unlike a sea of ice. And don’t you think my golden hair looks fabulous in the winter air?”

“Oh, hoh!” Indsamling laughed, as he launched another impossible flurry of magic missiles at the god. “To think that a god would get so caught up in his own fantasies of world domination, that he would forget the prophecies that had been spread to every corner of the mortal realm! For shame, Torm! For shame! You are acting like a young aspirant, barely off his mother’s breast, and already thinking he can take on the world. Oh, the bards will sing of the Folly of Torm for generations!”

Torm: Antimagic Field
Dragon: Full Defense
Dragon: 1 round until death
“You mayflies! You gnats! You think that you can beat a god with your magic? Then let us see how you fare without it! Come, and taste my steel!” As the divine aura surrounded Torm once again, he let his fury cool, and his tactical mind take over. An antimagic field slammed down around us. The glow of his aura, and the magic radiating about him did not dim, however, as a deity was above something like an antimagic field, apparently. However, I noticed that my blade still had its shadowy glow, so apparently artifacts were also unaffected. And so, too, was the spear that appeared in my hand, suddenly full size, instead of the reduced version my ring normally kept it at. A very special spear, for just such a time.
The dragon, meanwhile, roared in anger, suddenly released from the domination’s effects. However, it looked warily at the fey by its feet, and took a defensive position. “Lord Torm, heal your devoted servant!”
Meanwhile, Sanvi, Vestele, Siora, and Fartooth all pulled up short. I knew why, of course. None of their spells or abilities would function within the antimagic field, so there was little point in wasting their efforts.
Melinda’s Attack Roll: 1d20+56 = 76 (Crit Threat)

Torm had just a moment to recognize the spear in my hand as I let go of Soul’s Violation to grip it properly. His eyes grew wide, as he knew that spear, and what it was capable of. It was Alvar, God’s Bane, and it yearned for just such a chance as this! And now I, too, yelled, unleashing my wrath. “I MADE MY FIRST KILL WITH AN IRON PAN, IN A WORLD WITHOUT MAGIC! I DON’T NEED SPELLS TO SEND YOU TO OBLIVION, YOU ARROGANT SON OF A WHORE!” And, as I yelled, I stabbed upwards with the spear, catching Torm in the soft part of his flesh, between the throat and his jaw. As the spear’s tip entered Torm’s brain, it shattered, and golden light once more descended upon the frozen landscape.
