Seawolf 1’s AoO (Melinda): 1d20+7 = 10 (Miss)

Seawolf 2’s AoO (Melinda): 1d20+7 = 24 (Miss)

Seawolf 7’s AoO (Melinda): 1d20+7 = 19 (Miss)

Melinda’s Attack (Seawolf 1): 1d20+15 = 28 (Hit)

Hellrime Chain Damage: 5d6 = 13 (Cold)

Melinda’s Attack (Seawolf 7): 1d20+15 = 24 (Hit)

Hellrime Chain Damage: 7 (Cold) (Dead)

Once again, I danced through the fangs of the seawolves, and unleashed a blast of icy power at my foes. This time, however, I struck the second target I had hit last time, and bounced it to the one I had been hitting, as it looked worse off than the others. And I was right, since the beast fell down, dead.

Siora’s Attack (Seawolf 1): 1d20+9 = 15 (Hit)

Damage: 1d6+2 = 7 (Piercing)

Siora turned her attention to that seawolf, as well, her shortbow singing as she unleashed another arrow from the string. The arrow hit home, further wounding the already thrashed seawolf. Looking over at me, she grinned, “Take out one more, and I’ll fly over to try and stop one of those Huntresses from being more of a pain.”

Seawolf 1’s Bite (Melinda): 1d20+7 = 15 (Miss)

Seawolf 1’s Claw (Melinda): 1d20+1 = 13 (Miss)

Seawolf 1’s Claw (Melinda): 1d20+1 = 8 (Miss)

Seawolf 2’s Bite (Melinda): 1d20+7 = 24 (Miss)

Seawolf 2’s Claw (Melinda): 1d20+1 = 9 (Miss)

Seawolf 2’s Claw (Melinda): 1d20+1 = 18 (Miss)

Frostmane’s AoO (Seawolf 4): 1d20+13 = 23 (Hit)

Power Attack (5) Bite: 1d8+18 = 23 (Piercing)

Freezing Bite: 1d6 = 3 (Cold) (Dead)

Seawolf 5’s Bite (Frostmane): 1d20+7 = 16 (Miss)

Seawolf 5’s Claw (Frostmane): 1d20+1 = 6 (Miss)

Seawolf 5’s Claw (Frostmane): 1d20+1 = 18 (Miss)

The seawolves tried to turn the tide, but by this point it was clear to everyone that they were fanatically driven beyond the point of reason. A simpler creature, like the wolves, would have tried to flee by now, unless they had cubs nearby. But they did not. They just charged ever forward, like the one who stood just so Frostmane could dispatch him. But there was always the chance that they could get lucky, which kept us on our guard.

Frostmane’s attack (Seawolf 4): 1d20+13 = 20 (Hit)

Power Attack (5) Bite: 1d8+18 = 25 (Piercing)

Freezing Bite: 1d6 = 5 (Cold) (Dead)

Once again, Frostmane’s jaws sought the flesh of a seawolf, and once again he struck true. The seawolf’s entire head disappeared within the white wolf’s jaws, and was then thrown to the side a moment later as the body, with the icy stump of a neck, fell to the ground. Without a backwards glance, Frostmane surged forward, rounding the corner of the bridge, and then turning again, to move to support Vestele.

Vestele’s Caster Level check: 1d20+8 = 26 (Success)

FDW’s Will Save (Inflict Critical Wounds): 1d20+6 = 15 (Fail, full damage)

Damage: 4d8+8 = 25 (Necrotic)

“Oh, Malcanthet, bringer of sensation and corruption, bestow upon this creature your boon of torment!” With those words, Vestele strode forward to support her pet, her hand glowing with an inky black light. When she touched the summoned wolf, its fur blackened and its skin shriveled and decayed as the deadly magic went to work.

FDW’s Attack (Huntress 1): 1d20+11 = 29 (Hit)

Damage: 1d8+10 = 14 (Piercing) (DR 10/Magic)

FDW’s Trip attempt (Vestele): 1d20+11 = 25

Damage: 1d8+2 = 5 (Force)

The charmed huntress crawled back from the front line, before attempting to stand, clearly more intelligent than some of the other creatures that we had fought. But then charmed creatures are not suicidal, so perhaps it made sense. At any rate, she did not throw her life away, as others had, trying to stand in the face of a large wolf. For all the good it did her when a crossbow bolt struck home in her shoulder, thanks to one of her former comrades.

The summoned wolf turned its attention to Vestele, and snarled at her, before lunging and grabbing her by the arm she had touched it with. She was thrown to the ground, as the Huntress had been just before. And yet, I doubted she suffered as bad a wound as the Huntress had.

Seawolf 1’s AoO (Melinda): 1d20+7 = 9 (Miss)

Seawolf 2’s AoO (Melinda): 1d20+7 = 8 (Miss)

Melinda’s Attack (Seawolf 2): 1d20+15 = 31 (Hit)

Hellrime Chain Damage: 5d6 = 23 (Cold)

Seawolf 2’s Fort Save: 1d20-3 = 7 (Fail, -4 DEX for 10 min)

Melinda’s Attack (Seawolf 1): 1d20+15 = 21 (Hit)

Hellrime Chain Damage: 11 (Cold) (Dead)

Once again, I changed the order of my attacks, uncaring of the wolves’ feeble attempts to bite me. The previously uninjured seawolf took the brunt of the attack, but even the bounce was enough to bring down the other wolf. I grinned at Siora. “Go on, then.”

Siora just nodded, and spread her demon wings. Hugging the wall, she flew out of the seawolf’s reach, heading to the south. It seemed she wished to take out the one who cast a spiritual weapon first.

Seawolf 2’s Bite (Melinda): 1d20+7 = 12 (Miss)

Seawolf 2’s Claw (Melinda): 1d20+1 = 11 (Miss)

Seawolf 2’s Claw (Melinda): 1d20+1 = 9 (Miss)

The final seawolf tried its best to claw and tear at me, but I was too quick for it. Each blow dodged with grace, as I danced out of the way. But then, he wasn’t powerful enough to make me try my hardest, or attempt a block.

Frostmane’s attack (FDW): 1d20+13 = 27 (Hit)

Power Attack (5) Bite: 1d8+18 = 22 (Piercing)

Freezing Bite: 1d6 = 4 (Cold) (5 Resisted) (Dead)

Frostmane finished closing the distance, and his jaws found the neck of the summoned wolf. Viciously, Frostmane tore out the other wolf’s throat, leaving it to disappear back to the plane from whence it came. With a glare, Frostmane turned his eyes to the summoner, his gaze promising death.

Vestele’s attack (Huntress 2): 1d20+8 = 20 (Miss)

Vestele rose to her feet, clearly glad to not have a wolf in her face. Bringing up her light crossbow, she aimed at the closest of the still-hostile huntresses, and fired. The bolt flew true, but ended up embedding itself in the wolfkin’s shield.

Huntress 1’s Cure Moderate Wounds (Huntress 1): 2d8+8 = 16 (Healing)

Huntress 3’s Attack (Siora): 1d20+6 = 18 (Hit)

Darkbolt Damage: 4d8 = 17 (9 Cold, 8 Magic)

Siora’s Fort Save: 1d20+5 = 20 (Success)

Huntress 3’s Spiritual Weapon (Vestele): 1d20+10 = 15 (Miss)

Huntress 3’s Spiritual Weapon (Vestele): 1d20+5 = 18 (Miss)

Vestele’s huntress called out a prayer to her god, and placed a hand upon her chest. Healing light shone as the cleric healed her own wounds. Interesting. This minion might actually live for a while, instead of dying soon after we turned her.

The other Huntresses were not liking the direction the fight was going. The summoner moved to one corner of the platform, and threw a switch, raising the bridge between her platform and the last. No doubt, she intended to face us together with her ally, instead of trying to take us on separately.

The other one, meanwhile, allowed her spiritual weapon to continue its attacks on Vestele, despite the fact that it was missing more often than it hit. Instead, she turned her attention to Siora. Her left hand rose up, and a bolt of cold darkness leapt from it, striking the Beguiler in the chest. She shuddered, the attack looking as though it carried more than simple damage, but she managed to fight through whatever it was.

Seawolf 2’s AoO (Melinda): 1d20+7 = 16 (Miss)

Melinda’s Attack (Seawolf 2): 1d20+15 = 28 (Hit)

Hellrime Blast Damage: 5d6 = 14 (Cold) (Dead)

The seawolf desperately tried to claw me as I gathered magic once again, but, in the end, he fell, as all the others had. With that in mind, I turned to the south. Siora looked to be hurt pretty badly, so she would probably need support, if her plan didn’t work. That in mind, I took wing, flying south until I landed next to the Huntress, ready to strike, if an opening presented itself.

Huntress 3’s Will Save (Charm Monster): 1d20+1 = 13 (Fail)

Siora landed on the platform and turned her gaze to the Huntress, who had turned her attention to me, instead of keeping her mind on what she was doing. I couldn’t blame her, honestly, since the aura I gave off was disquieting to those who were not used to it. So much so, in fact, that it made them more likely to succumb to things they would otherwise fight off with ease. Like the Charm spell Siora just cast. The Beguiler smiled at the Huntress, and said, “It is alright. I’ll forgive you if you heal me, dear.”

While that was going on, Frostmane and Vestele surged forward, running down the causeway to trap the final Huntress. There would be no escaping for her! Frostmane growled, “I think it is time we ended this.”

Huntress 2’s Attack (Frostmane): 1d20+9 = 26 (Miss)

Huntress 2’s Attack (Frostmane): 1d20+4 = 19 (Miss)

Huntress 3’s Cure Critical Wounds (Siora): 4d8+8 = 29 (Healing)

Vestele’s Huntress followed behind the cleric and the wolf, but she was noticeably slower than they were. Meanwhile, Siora’s Huntress gasped, and said, “Oh, I’m so sorry, here, let me help you.” And, with a touch of her hand, she used the healing magic at her disposal to tend Siora’s wounds.

The last Huntress was still unwounded, but she knew that things were looking grim. Lashing out with her morningstar, she tried twice to connect with Frostmane, but failed each time. Snarling, she looked back at Frostmane, and said, “You will never stop the Huntlord! He will claim what was lost, and usher in an age of the Great Hunt, when all the peoples of the world will be our prey!”

Melinda’s Attack (Huntress 2): 1d20+17 = 23 (Hit)

Damage: 1d10 = 9 (Bludgeoning)

Hellrime Blow Damage: 5d6 = 13 (Cold)

Huntress 2’s Fort save: 1d20-1 = 2 (Fail, -4 DEX for 10 min)

Seeing that Siora had her situation well in hand, I took wing and skimmed the wall as I flew, icy energy gathering in my hand as I did. My fist struck true as I flanked the Huntress, and I could see the ice begin to spread. “Care to do the honors, oh fluffy one?” Frostmane chuffed.

Siora’s Attack (Seawolf 1): 1d20+9 = 29 (Crit threat)

Confirm Crit: 1d20+9 = 15 (Normal hit)

Damage: 1d6+2 = 8 (Piercing)

An arrow cut off what the wolf might have wished to say, as it struck the huntress in the side, just below her ribs. The three of us turned, and saw Siora standing there with her bow. “I am more than a pretty face, you know.”

Frostmane’s attack (Huntress 2): 1d20+15 = 24 (Hit)

Power Attack (5) Bite: 1d8+18 = 23 (Piercing)

Freezing Bite: 1d6 = 6 (Cold) (Dead)

Frostmane did not respond to the Beguiler at first, instead repeating the feat he had accomplished with the seawolf, biting off the Huntress’s head and leaving a frozen stump in its wake. As he spit the head back out, he finally turned back to Siora, and chuffed. “Of course, you aren’t just a pretty face. Your tail isn’t bad, either.” We all burst out laughing as the System informed us of our victory.

Huntress 1’s Cure Light Wounds (Vestele): 1d8+5 = 11 (Healing)

As we went about collecting loot from the fallen Huntresses, Vestele’s Huntress placed her hand upon the priestess, and offered a healing prayer, removing what remained of her wounds. Vestele nodded with a smile to the wolfkin. After all, when someone under magical compulsion is healing you so you can go and take down their own temple, it is only right to be polite.
