We finally arrive at the adventurer’s guild. The guild is noisy with people requesting help with quests or looking for people to form a group or party. The building has a similar layout to the information guild with a staircase in the left corner manned by a guard, many tables and chairs were positioned both in and outside the first floor, there was a large board placed to the right side of the room with flyers pinned to it, and a receptionist desk at the rear of the room manned by a tall brown skinned bald man with a scar over his eye. The people in the building all wore armour or mages robes and carried weapons or staves.
Cassandra led me to the reception and said “We would like to sign up Elyssa here to the adventurer’s guild.”
The man at the counter nodded and said “sure just one moment.”
New job: AdventurerRank: Red
Reputation: F
“You will begin as a red rank adventurer with no reputation thus a rank of F. as you grow stronger your rank will rise. Ranks follows closely to your level. Reputation is affected by how successful you are at completing quests. The higher your reputation, the more floors of the building you can access, and with it more quests.” explained the man. “If you want to accept a quest, grab a flyer from the quest board and bring it to me, if your rank and reputation are sufficient, you will be able to undertake the quest.”
In the adventurers guild ranks and reputation are as follows:
RankReputationBlackSGoldASilverBBronzeCBlueDGreenERedF
As you can see, I am the lowest of the low and can only select from a small number of quests. After thanking the man at the counter I went to the board with Cassandra. The board contained quests of reputation F. most of the quests were to collect pelts or other common monster parts and deliver them. A few of the quests were slayer quests which involve killing monsters in an area or killing a certain number of monster to reduce the population or threat to a city.
Cassandra plucked a flyer from the board and handed it to me.
“This is your test” she told me. “Return to me once you have completed it, here are some supplies to help you.”
Cassandra handed me over some bandages, bread and medical herbs.
I took the flyer and handed it over the the man at the reception.
“Interesting, a slayer quest for your first attempt. Make sure you are well supplied. Quest approved” The man said

Job accepted: Slay the silver wolfThere is a rare silver wolf rampaging around the wood outside Stormbridge. Find it and slay it so that no more people die from its rampage
Quest requirements: Rank Red, Reputation Blue
Reward: 2 silver
Quests received from the adventurer’s guild are filed under the job screen and have no difficulty level because the situation can change from outside interference easily. Cassandra bids me farewell and I leave the city for the first time.
Outside the city is a wide open expanse of farmland followed by a 300 metre gap of cleared grassland and finally the woods. Roaming around in the farms are various livestock and the occasional pest such as a mouse. I head the open grassland and I see a lot of low level adventurers fighting with the critters nearby. There are squirrels, mice, rabbits and foxes roaming the area. The adventurers all look like they are struggling to kill even a squirrel and those fighting foxes are mostly running away screaming.
Seeing the sight it reminds me of when I first started out as a mage. The small critters were hard to hit, and if you threatened them they tended to fight back. It’s amazing how painful a squirrel bite can be. The next level up from these small critters are the foxes. The foxes can bite and cause huge damage in bleeding, and their health is much higher than the small critters. The foxes are designed to teach beginners to dodge attacks which is the bane for mages. It encourages people to form parties in order to overcome the individual class weaknesses.
I decide that before I go to the forest to fight the wolves, I should first make sure I can fight since my fighting style has changed since the beta. It’s a these times I wonder what I was thinking switching from a mage to a melee class. Oh that’s right, I didn’t like having to rely on others to protect me. NPC’s are ok but, other people are scary.
I walk up to a squirrel and draw my sword. I quickly lunge at the squirrel and piece it through the head with the tip of my sword between its ears.
Fatal hit
A fatal hit is caused when you create an instant killing strike. An example is severing the head or piercing the heart dependant on the creature. Getting a fatal hit on a living creature is much easier than on an undead. Other than critical hits, it’s possible to get lucky and get a critical hit. Critical hits increase your damage dealt by 1.5 times.
I try my luck on the foxes. I walk up to a fox, and ready myself to attack. The fox lunges at me, I dodge swiftly to the side but, the fox turns and bites me on the leg. I see red and cry out in pain “awaaaaa.”
Mad I kick the fox off turn and try to slash at it. The fox dodges and comes at me again. Realising that my strategy of fencing the fox isn’t working I join the rest of the adventurers and run away with shame. The fox continues to chase me down leaving me with no choice but to turn and fight. I decide to use dance of the sylph. Moving in erratic patterns, the fox lunges at me several times missing me. As the fox jumps past me I pierce it with my sword deep into its rib cage.
The fox yelps and starts bleeding. It knows it is going to die soon and starts attacking more aggressively. Due to it being more aggressive it leaves itself open to more counters. After three more strikes the fox finally falls down and dies disappearing into grey dust to be separated in the wind.
You have gained experience
Feeling satisfied that I killed a fox, I heal myself with bandages. Due to my bandage skill being so low, I can only stop bleeding however, with the addition of some herbs, I can regenerate health albeit slowly.
Finally healed I decide to tackle some more foxes. After a couple of hours fighting I manage to reach level 3, fencing raises by 1 skill level and I manage to comfortably solo groups of up to 4 foxes.
Every level provides 6 stat points. I decide to add my stat points in a 3, 1, 2 split to agility, strength, and vitality. Agility will allow me to move faster, strength will allow me to use heavier blades, and vitality with increase my health and stamina making me more durable and able to fight longer.
Satisfied with my progress I decide it’s time to tackle some wolves. Wolves are approximately level ten monsters which are more aggressive and faster than foxes. Wolves tend to hunt in packs and thus you need to be careful when fighting them.
When I enter the forest I quickly stumble across my first wolf. It is on its own and it doesn’t see me. I sneak up on the wolf, activate dance of the warrior to increase my attack damage, and strike at the wolf. After fighting with the wolf for 5 minutes I finally land the killing blow piercing it through the head for a fatal hit.
I spend 30 more minutes fighting solitary wolves until I feel exhausted and sit down for a rest. I open my inventory and start eating a loaf of bread to restore my stamina so that I can be ready to fight again.
As I was almost finished, I heard a howl “awooooo”
It was close by coming from the thicket a few metres away from me. Out from the bushes came a pack of six wolves snarling and snapping at me. I could see hunger in their eyes as they started to circle me looking for a chance to attack. I prepared myself shaking from the pressure the wolves were letting out. I decided to activate dance of the fairy in order to increase my attack speed.
Finally after what seemed like hours but was seconds in reality the wolves started lunging at me. I dodge the first two wolves and stab the third wolf in the leg causing it to fall yelp and roll on the ground. The next wolf uses the chance in my thrust and jumps at me barely missing me. I feel the wind rush past me from the shock of the wolf and I freeze. Two of the wolves that had been circling me until now lunged at me and grabed both of my legs knowing me to the ground and causing bleeding effect.
The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.
You are bleedingyou will lose 2 health every second
I punish myself in my mind for losing control of my body and stab out at one of the wolves biting down on my left leg scoring a fatal hit and instantly killing the wolf. The wolf on my right leg lets go and backs away. I stand up forcing myself through the pain and begin to perform my dance of the sylph to help avoid attacks.
As each wolf comes at me I dodge them and stab them in any opening as it becomes available. I quickly dispatch the wolves thanks to fatal hits at their head. Their hearts were too difficult to hit thanks to their thick pelts and my lack of strength. After the final wolf was slayed, I quickly bandaged my legs to stop the bleeding.
“That was close!” I exclaim. When the bleeding finally stopped I only had 14 health remaining. Rather than waiting for my health to fully heal I hobbled out of the forest and sat down in a field. After my encounter with the wolf pack I didn’t want the stench of my blood to lure another so soon.
I spend the next 3 days fighting against wolves and wolf packs reaching level 8 when finally I run into the silver wolf. The silver wolf had a silver fur coat matted with the blood of its victims. it was surrounded by other wolves numbering as high as 20. Most of the wolves were pups, young pups around level 10, with a few much older females which snarled and snapped at me.
The wolves noticed my presence and created a formation. 4 of the older female wolves circled the silver wolf and the remaining 15 circled me. The hairs on the back of my neck stood on end and made a shiver run down my back. The sight of a pack of wolves with an alpha is so oppressing that I wanted to crawl into a ball and give up but, I knew I had a trick up my sleeves for encounters like this.
I began my dance of the dragon causing an aura to emanate from out of me into the surrounding area. The wolf’s formation staggered slightly and some of them backed off. The silver howled, the signal to attack. Immediately the woods were in chaos, wolves were lunging at me from all directions. I started dodging and stabbing back. The wolves attacked half-heartedly thanks to my dance giving me the chance to strike back.
The first round of battle was so long that I was exhausted by the end of it. After dispatching the final wolf pup, it was time for the females. I screamed a war cry “ahhhhhhh” and fought the females using my dance of the sylph. I didn’t want to risk getting hit by the much larger female wolves who were roughly around level 12. Finally after 15 minutes of fighting them it was time for the silver.
The silver growled and launched itself at me faster than any wolf had before. I was launched 10 metres through the air and smashed into a tree losing half of my health in an instant. Getting up I noticed I was dizzy. Realising that evasion and fear were ineffective and there being no point in increasing its enmity towards me I activated my dance of the fairy increasing my attack speed.
As the silver prepared to charge at me I began to muster myself up for one final attack. The wolf charged lightning fast towards me, and I thrust my rapier with all my might aiming just below the neck on an angle slightly upwards.
My sword connected, directly below the head into the neck. the speed of my strike in combination with the force of the wolf charging at me cause incredible damage severing the head of the wolf and launching me backwards into the tree shaving off another quarter of my health.
“I did it!” I screamed in celebration.
I collected the loot dropped by the wolves and picked up the silver wolf head as proof of my kill for the adventurer’s guild. Most of the loot consisted of wolf pelts, claws and teeth. I collected it all to sell back at town at a general store. The silver dropped a silver wolf pelt, an item of D grade quality. I decided to keep this and take it to a tailor to process into clothing.
I return to the adventurer’s guild and hand in the head as well as the quest the the bald man.
“I can’t believe you did it. That wolf has been terrorising the farmers for months, nobody could track it because it moved so fast.” explained the man. “As promised, here is your reward”

Seeing that I was stronger I left the adventurer's guild and headed to the general store on my way to Cassandra’s place.
Outside the general store, there was a huge commotion. An adventurer was yelling “I have a method to reach level 50 in a short amount of time. 10 silver for any who are interested.”
Angered I approached the adventurer, he was wearing black leather armour, and had a short sword at his waist. Everything about him screamed assassin. I confronted him and angrily said “there is no way you can be level 50 at this point in the game without finding an exploit. Even if you did, you would be so weak from neglecting your character’s stats and skills! Even a level 10 like me could defeat you.”
“hoho tough words” the assassin replied “want to prove it in a duel?”
*triiing*
you have been challenged to a duelsince you are not a knight class you can reject the duel if you wish.
As the one challenged, you can choose the conditions of the duel
“I accept, first to 50% health! No rules! Loser is confined to the city for 1 month!” I angrily replied.
A gasp could be heard from the audience and the assassin started fidgeting and looking worried.
