Chapter 4: Opening ceremony
As all the gazes were fixed on Remy, a middle aged man with black hair walked up. He was wearing a suit and was holding some book in his hands. He did not have a built body but he wasn't skinny or obese either. He was half a head taller than Remy.
He walked up to Remy and irritation was clear on his face when he said, “You are Remy Lumi right? Not only are you late, you are also ignoring our schools dress code.” Remy frowned, instead of asking him why he was late or why he didn't have the school uniform on, the teacher started blatantly accusing him.
Before he could say anything, the teacher looked at him with disdain in his eyes and said, “Let's go, we will immediately go to the principals office, so you could be written up.” The corners of Remy's mouth were twitching. He had been in the school for 5 minutes and he was already being dragged to the principals office.
He understood that this particular teacher was extremely stuck up so he decided to follow him to avoid more troubles with him. He followed the teacher to the principals office and when they had entered Remy took a glance around. The room was practically furnished, besides a few plants, there was only a desk and a few chairs. The walls were decorated with bookshelves.
He just stood by the door and waited until the teacher was done. The headmaster was wearing the school uniform and looked to be in his late thirties. He had short brown hair with a bit of graying hair mixed in here and there. His body was slightly built and he had a stern face on. As he listened to the teacher ramble on, he only nodded.
Finally the principal said, “Well, there is no need to write him up since today is the first day of school. You can take the rest of his class to the auditorium for the opening ceremony, I'll personally explain the rules to this guy here and give him a little sermon.” The teacher agreed but you could see that he didn't agree with the not writing up. The teacher looked at the clock for a second before leaving. Only Remy and the principal were left in the room now.
Before Remy could open his mouth, the stern face on the principals face turned into a regretful one as he said, “Yea sorry about that stuck up. His father is on the board of directors and he goes around like he owns the place. No one can teach him his place either as his father would motion the board to fire the person. Do you still drink coffee?” Remy had a baffled face on, he had no idea how things came to this.
The man looked a bit familiar but he was acting like he knows Remy. While still being respectful Remy said, “Umm, yea I still do. I'm sorry if I am being disrespectful but do I know you?” The man looked at Remy with an apologetic face as he went to take a coffee maker from a shelf.
As he started the coffee he told Remy, “Sorry, that was rude of me. My name is Kristo Raud, last summer I hired you to transport a guitar and a few music scores to my daughter.” Remy thought for a second and remembered that he really did get a delivery order like that in the beginning of last summer.
“Ohh, I am sorry for not recognizing you. You seemed familiar but I couldn't figure out where I had seen you before.” The man smiled at Remy and just dismissed it, “No worries, no worries. I only hired you once last year, in the meantime you have had a lot of orders so I don't blame you for not remembering every person who ordered something from you off the bat.” The man poured two cups of coffee and gestured Remy to sit down.
He handed Remy a cup and Remy asked, “How did your daughter do with her band anyways? I had another delivery to make so I couldn't stay to listen to them.” Kristo took a sip of coffee and said, “Well, thanks to you it went well. A major label was only taking in one band so they had an audition. Some of the competitors who saw her band as a major threat to them, sabotaged them but thanks to you being there on time, they could rock the audition.”
The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.
A hint of pride was hidden in his smile. He continued, “They got the contract with the label and she is doing extremely well at the moment.” Remy took a sip and smiled, “Well, If they rocked the audition, then me bolting along the highway with 200 was worth it.” The man let out a laugh when he heard that. He truly was grateful to Remy for making it on time.
Getting a debut and becoming a band on an international stage was her daughters biggest dream and which parent wouldn't want his or her child to fulfill their dreams. The principal asked Remy, “Did you come from a delivery?” Remy looked at the man and said, “Yea, I did. That is also the reason why I haven't had the time to change my clothes.” Actually he did have the time but he felt this was a better choice to go with at the moment.
The man gave Remy a wry smile as he said, “Yea, last night I got a visit from a man in a suit and with a badge. He said that you might be late today as you were on “official government business” and I also had to sign an interesting contract that would allow you to be absent from school when the government gives a call that you are out on a delivery for them.” Remy looked at Kristo with cow eyes, this was the first time he had heard about this.
The man continued, “Also, they told me to pass you a message, “Swallows have started flying so Speed Demons are going to be needed soon.”” When Remy heard that he immediately understood. The border skirmishes were escalating so his services may be needed on a shorter notice. “Seems like I need to talk with Alex a bit.”
He diverted the subject back to Kristos daughter and how she was doing. In the blink of an eye and hour had passed and the opening ceremony was over. Now everyone needed to gather at the homeroom so they would get their new timetables. They would also choose a class rep and so on.
The principal accompanied Remy back to the classroom and before Remy went in, he gave him one final advice, “Please do not destroy this guy. I know that with your connections you could make sure that he couldn't get a job even as a garbageman in the future. He is a bit stuck up but he is a good teacher.” Remy looked at him and just nodded, “Yea, I won't do that. Well, provided that he doesn't try to make my life a hell in this school.”
They said their goodbyes and Remy entered the classroom and sat down at the last open seat that was in the last row of the classroom. Everyone gave him a surprised glance and the teacher said, “Well, seems like you have learned your lesson now, so give your introductions and tell us all why you were late.” Remy gave him a cold glance, he seriously did not like this man at all anymore.
He let out a sigh and stood up, “My name is Remy Lumi, I'm 15. As for the reason I was late is that, I am a government licensed courier and had to make a delivery for the government and arrived back in town 15 minutes before I got here.” He took out his license and showed it to everyone. A bit of respect was on everyone's face as the teacher said with a tinge of anger, “If you had a valid reason like that, why did you not say anything sooner?”
Remy gave him a surprised glance as he said coldly, “You did not give me a chance to even say anything before dragging me to the principals office. It is not my fault for not saying, it is yours for not even asking for a reason I was late.” The teacher seemed like he would choke Remy right then and there if he could but he understood that in this incident, the one who rushed a bit too much was him.
He gestured Remy to sit back down and went on with the general rules of the school and gave them the timetables and the classrooms where the lessons would be taking place. Time ticked by and when class was dismissed it was already nearly 2PM.
When everyone were dismissed, Remy stood up and started walking towards the parking lot.
