Tyler had just wrapped up a brief one-sided conversation with Ancestor Fang when he awoke to a dire and urgent message. The message was as follows:
"Tyler, I'm currently engaged in a one-sided dialogue with an Ascendant cultivator. I'll keep this short, as he explicitly instructed me not to interfere with everything about to happen. Lin Jian is dead, and Lo Tang has assumed the role of emperor and sect master. In his search for information, Lo Tang attacked Tanaka Ryuji and expelled him and his family from the mountain. Your residence has been demolished, and your servants have been killed. I contacted the old dragon, who informed me he's relocating to the York empire with his son and granddaughter, as he has acquaintances there. I strongly recommend going into hiding, as Lo Tang is on a warpath with you as the objective."
After pausing to catch his breath, the message continued, "One more thing. I'm also departing this country with my daughter, heading north to the Icy Plains. If you ever find yourself in that region, seek out a tea house named the Blossoming Lotus in the capital of the northern territories. Ask for Feng Pi, and if you locate her, utter the phrase ‘Lotus blossoms in the heart of a timeless blade.’ She'll get in touch with me, and we can communicate further. Stay safe, and best of luck." The crystal's glow faded as Ancestor Fang teleported out of range with his daughter.
As the reality of the situation sank in, Tyler's inner world reacted to his emotions. The serene landscape that had been his sanctuary mirrored a storm, with rumbling clouds and thunder reflecting the chaos and turmoil within. This intense response disrupted Daredevil's meditative state, startling the young cub with the sudden manifestation of his benefactor's emotions.
The news of the destruction of his residence and the loss of those he cared about, like Lin Jian, Annie, Gregory, and Bob, struck Tyler with a profound sense of loss and grief. Tyler knew things like this could happen on a whim in a world governed by cultivation, but for some reason, he never thought it would.
A solitary tear welled up in Tyler's eye for the first time in a while. It wasn't a tear of sadness but rather one of anger. He was furious with himself for his own recklessness and with Lo Tang for going to such extreme lengths, effectively turning his self-defense into a ruthless vendetta to avenge his dick of a son.
Tyler was entangled in a web of a massive political mess and power plays that extended far beyond his understanding. The situation was intricate, with multiple layers of motives and actions that were not apparent to him.
The key question that loomed large in his mind was why Lin Jian died. The uncertainty surrounding this – whether it was a direct act of Lo Tang or the result of this mysterious Ascendant cultivator's involvement – confused Tyler. This uncertainty made it challenging for him to gauge the full extent of the threat he faced and the dynamics at play.
The role of the Ascendant cultivator in these events was particularly perplexing. These cultivators, known for their immense power, were always detached from worldly affairs and rarely involved themselves directly in the politics of lower cultivation realms as far as Tyler was aware.
The fact such a being was now actively participating in this conflict was alarming and confusing. The issues at hand were of significant importance, potentially involving matters that transcended Tyler's understanding. He felt a massive headache for the first time since returning to this world.
Furthermore, the Ascendant's decision to leave Lo Tang in power, a figure openly hostile to Tyler, was a move that raised many questions for him. Where should he go now? Who should he contact? Did he even have anyone left? What about the Sect’s mission?
The restriction placed on Ancestor Fang by the Ascendant cultivator was also a matter of concern. It implied that the Ascendant had a specific agenda or plan that required limiting external influences like Ancestor Fang. This act of preventing intervention suggested a level of control and foresight, indicating that the events unfolding were part of a larger, more calculated scheme.
Tyler now needed to tread carefully. Understanding the motives and plans of these influential players was crucial for him to navigate this perilous landscape. This entire situation was part of a much larger and potentially dangerous game that required strategic thinking and careful planning to survive.
Something he was not proficient in.
The actions and intentions of the Ascendant cultivator were shrouded in mystery. One thing was sure: if this Ascendant had a genuine desire to find him, it would have been as effortless as turning over a leaf.
Daredevil's growl broke through Tyler's deep ruminations, reminding him of the immediate reality and the bond he shared with the young cub. The disturbance in his inner world had calmed, returning to its usual state of tranquility, but the impact of his internal conflict was evident.
Ultimately, his analysis of the situation led him to conclude that he didn't understand anything past the fact that Lo Tang was coming for him and that an Ascendant Cultivator was involved somehow.
Tyler acknowledged Daredevil's unease and the need to address the situation more practically. "Sorry, buddy. It seems I have royally fucked up. We should go see your parents and have a chat." He needed to regroup, gather more information, and seek advice and assistance somehow.
Approaching Sylvamist and her mate for a discussion was his only available option at this time, considering their unique positions and perspectives. Tyler assumed that as spirit beasts who had been living in Veridian Peaks for a very long time, they could offer insights that he might not have considered.
As Tyler's divine sense reconnected with the outside world, he opened his eyes. He was immediately met with concerned looks from Sylvamist and the formidable red-eyed black panther. Daredevil, too, was awake now, his dark navy blue eyes reflecting a newfound intelligence and understanding.
Sensing the tension in the air, Tyler addressed Sylvamist with a sense of urgency. "What's wrong? Did something happen?" He could tell that something had deeply unsettled her.
Sylvamist, still visibly shaken by whatever she had sensed or experienced during Tyler's introspective state, struggled to find words. In her stead, her mate, transformed into his human form to better communicate, took the initiative to explain. With Daredevil observing the exchange intently, the red-eyed panther voiced his concerns.
"Whatever you did caused some profoundly shocking soul fluctuations, the likes of which I haven't sensed in over a thousand years," he said, his tone heavy with concern. It would seem Tyler’s emotional state had affected the outer world. Concluding his little speech, he formally introduced himself: "By the way, my name is Big Cat."
Despite the tense atmosphere, Tyler couldn't resist a chuckle, making him relax significantly, and he honed in on this entirely unrelated matter. "Big Cat? Let me guess, you were named by a pre-shattering cultivator, weren't you?"
Big Cat's narrowed eyes hinted at caution, and Sylvamist grew even more anxious. The male panther was gradually piecing together some of the enigmatic aspects of Tyler's identity. "How did you know that?" he inquired cautiously.
Tyler shrugged as he answered. "Only a simpleton like me from an era long past would even recognize what a 'cat' was. As far as I know, they no longer exist. Or rather, they've evolved into creatures your size, so technically, that cultivator wasn't entirely incorrect."
The panther's eyes blazed in a deep shade of red when Tyler casually referred to his master as a simpleton. He was on the verge of launching an explosive attack that would surely leave a lasting impression on the young man. However, just as his temper flared, a gentle breeze swept in, carrying a few drifting leaves.
Tyler, attuned to the winds, sensed an almost imperceptible power within the breeze, but he couldn't quite pinpoint its source or nature. He could only detect it due to his heightened connection with the element. The leaves bore a familiar and soothing presence for the panther, along with a single message:
“Leave Tyler alone. He's... A friend.” The Big Cat heard through his bond with his benefactor.

In the span of a moment, the panther's emotions underwent a swift transformation as it realized a few crucial things: Its benefactor had returned! The peculiar human was, in fact, a friend of its benefactor!
The benefactor in question was none other than Maximus Freeman. He had been pleasantly surprised to discover that his old cat was still alive and kicking after hundreds of years. Also, somehow, the person he had been searching for was within the panther's domain, one of his 9 soul-bound animal companions.
Staying true to his character and plan, he eased his old friend's wrath and giggled when he heard Tyler's comment. It's been a while since anyone called me a simpleton, and given the soul fluctuations he's emitting, he's definitely in possession of a soul palace. Perhaps he even has access to his inner world already. Thought Maximus.
Another message came through to Big Cat, telling him to treat Tyler as any other Qi Transformation cultivator, that he shouldn't treat him with any special treatment, and to disregard any weird or odd comments.
Simultaneously, at the cozy little shack Tyler had resided in briefly at the peak of Sword King Mountain, Maximus Freeman sighed as he settled into meditation. His injuries, while improved, still required some time to fully heal. His main objective in this situation was to ensure that Tyler, the young pre-shattering cultivator, faced the challenges he needed to grow and develop.
If the circumstances had been different, he might have chosen to help Tyler directly, but it seemed that the current situation called for a test of Tyler's abilities and resourcefulness, akin to the challenges presented during the tutorials.
While this took a while to explain, it all happened in only a single breath of time. Taking the advice of his benefactor seriously, Big Cat continued. "It would seem you were hiding more secrets than I thought. Our son will be in good hands. Do take care of him."
Tyler looked at Big Cat with questioning eyes. "What do you mean? You want me to take him with me?"
The male panther chuckled, "Of course. You wielded sufficient power to name him, and I'm sure you can sense it already. You share a profound bond now." He took a moment to affectionately stroke his youngest son's head. "Irrespective of the physical separation or differences in your cultivation, you'll always be able to detect each other's vitality and get a sense of the other's feelings."
Scratching his head, somewhat embarrassed, Tyler said, "Honestly, I gave him a name because he's such a good boy, and I felt sorry that he didn't have one. I never expected it to have such a profound impact..."
Big Cat burst into hearty laughter, causing the mist to momentarily part. "My benefactor uttered the same words long ago. It's no surprise that everything about you is shrouded in mystery," he paused, "but no matter what we say, young Daredevil will likely stick by your side. Our instincts at that age are incredibly overpowering."
In response to this, Daredevil let out a loud growl and nuzzled Tyler's legs, purring like the big feline he was. It appeared that the young cub was in agreement.
Sighing, Tyler replied, "As much as I'd cherish a travel companion, it appears I've provoked a formidable Soul Shattering cultivator and attracted the attention of an Ascendant, so I wouldn't want to jeopardize this little guy's life by bringing him along..."
At this point, Big Cat smiled reassuringly. "You don't have to worry about the Ascendant cultivator. He's... more of an arbiter, and that particular Soul Shattering cultivator was instructed to limit his pursuit of you to the Sea Formation level, so you should be safe."
Raising an eyebrow, Tyler began to ask, "How do you..." but was interrupted by the panther.
"Don't concern yourself with that. Just understand that this is the current situation. If you have no further business with me or my dear wife, you're free to leave. Alternatively, you can stay if you wish. It's entirely up to you. I've been advised to let events unfold naturally and avoid interference. However, that little scoundrel Lo Tang wouldn't dare enter this mist, so you should be relatively safe here for a while."
Nodding, Tyler didn't know what to do, and he stood there, hands in his pockets, quietly staring into the distance as he sorted his thoughts.
So this Ascendant probably got in touch with Big Cat here for him to have this much information already... Luckily, this bit of information is lifting a big weight off my shoulders. Only having Sea Formation cultivators coming after me certainly isn't great, but at least I can defend myself and, at worst, flee.
I hope little daredevil here won't be negatively affected as he's way way weaker than I am... when his thoughts reached this point, he asked a question to the parent duo, who seemed to be having a telepathic conversation. "How do you guys cultivate? As if Daredevil is to come with me, I need him to be much stronger if we're to survive this situation."
Sylvamist answered Tyler's question. She explained that they primarily consumed their prey, and the stronger the beast they killed, the more they would grow in strength.
Big Cat elaborated further, mentioning that while pills and other methods could work, they were less effective until they learned the ability to shapeshift. Consuming raw materials and prey was typically the most effective method. He reassured Tyler that his cubs had the best cultivation method for their bloodlines, a gift from their benefactor.
Intrigued, Tyler asked for more details, "Oh? If I may ask… What is it called, and what grade is it?"
Big Cat's smile widened as he replied, "Nethermist Heavenly Arts. Heaven-grade. The technique has served me well all the way up to the Soul Shattering stage, and I'm sure my kid will be just fine. Considering we are Nether Panthers, this method is best suited for us."
With this valuable information, Tyler decided to help Daredevil get stronger immediately. He reached into his inner world and pulled out all the raw materials he had looted and gathered with and from Luo Pang, offering them to Daredevil.
The little cub's eyes widened at the potent energies emanating from the various plants and meats Tyler had provided. In particular, the corpse of the Tier 3 wolf caught Daredevil's attention, and he immediately pounced on it, devouring over half of the beast's corpse.
Afterward, Tyler continued his conversation with Daredevil's parents, expressing his desire to stay in their domain until the cub consumed everything and grew stronger. He explained his concern that Daredevil might not survive accompanying him in his current state.
Big Cat considered Tyler's request for a moment and found no issues with it. He even suggested that Tyler use the time to step into the nearby pond, hinting at its potential benefits. Tyler inspected the pond more thoroughly using his divine sense and quickly realized its significance.
"Water True Essence?" Tyler questioned.
Big Cat seemed somewhat surprised that this Qi Transformation cultivator had identified it so swiftly. He replied, "Truly perceptive." Following this comment, Sylvamist remembered a vital detail she had forgotten to share. Big Cat's eyes widened in shock as he received the telepathic message, and he couldn't help but examine Tyler more closely using his divine sense.
In a moment mirroring the previous encounter with Sylvamist, Tyler needed to demonstrate his capabilities again, particularly his divine sense, as he sensed another misty divine sense surrounding his inner world.
For some reason, neither panther could detect his divine sense, which was odd considering every other Soul Shattering cultivator had detected it. Tyler intuitively understood that Big Cat was testing him, seeking confirmation of this particular facet of his cultivation just like his partner had done.
To respond to this unspoken challenge, Tyler repeated the tactic he had previously used with Sylvamist. He formed a singular sword imbued with the power of his soul and the Qi from his inner world.
Big Cat, witnessing Tyler’s display of power, nodded in understanding after also feeling that invisible blade of divine sense pressed against his throat. While it wouldn’t kill him, it would at least prick his skin, metaphorically speaking.
As more pieces of the puzzle fell into place, Big Cat felt reassured about the bond that had formed between Tyler and his cub, Daredevil. It became increasingly evident that Tyler, with his unique abilities and strength, was an ideal benefactor for Daredevil.
This realization brought a sense of satisfaction to Big Cat. In the complex and often perilous world of cultivation, finding a powerful and capable benefactor for one's offspring was a significant advantage.
It meant that Daredevil would have the support and guidance necessary to grow and thrive, an opportunity that any parent, even a mystical creature like Big Cat, valued deeply.
With that, Tyler looked at Daredevil and saw that the cub would be digesting for a little while, so he looked over and said. "I'll be back, buddy, going to have a little dip into your father's pond."

A scene of unbridled rage unfolded within the Eternal Palace's inner sanctum. Lo Tang, the new Emperor of Veridian Peaks and Sect Master of the Sword Sect, was enraged as he forcefully slammed his fist against the throne. His ire was directed at Tyler! "That damned brat is hiding inside the Nether Panther's Mist domain!"
Determined to capture or eliminate Tyler, Lo Tang issued a decisive command. "Send out all the Core disciples, the Inner Sect Sea Formation cultivators, and set up a perimeter. He will not escape!!" His words resonated with an iron resolve, signifying the lengths he was willing to go to achieve his objective.
This command mobilized a significant force—hundreds of cultivators were sent out into the southern part of Veridian Peaks. Tyler was considered a high-priority target.
Very few cultivators knew of Tyler's existence, and even less knew of him personally. The only people who had interacted with him regularly had either been killed off or forced out of Sword King Mountain. Lo Shen was the only exception, imprisoned within the family's estate.
By the time Tyler and Daredevil were to exit the Nethermist Domain, they would be surrounded on all sides.
