The world is full of people who think they are special or those who want to be someone special, they don't care about the world, they just want to be a special among their loved ones. Who don't want to be special or you could say Protagonist right? Even you want to be protagonist in your life or others. As for me, I had enough of feeling that, it has it's own merits and demerits with demerits being more... if you are special, you got to meet other's expectations, make other feel special, worry about others, you will start to appreciate your hard work less losing all the interest you had once, no one would really understand you which leaves you having few choices, your friend circle will be increase day by day with doubts, have to work harder than other and sure you will get fame, money, love and success is waiting for you but is it really worth it? Knowing that it is all just deception and filled with bad deeds? If you failed to keep your role as protagonist you will be treated like a non character which is similar to being a dead person. As for a background character or you could say being average person, those demerits of being protagonist can be your merits if you play it right. The more you know, the more you will suffer.
Ding Ding, the glass door automatically opened. Few people entered the area, finding their needs here and there from shelfs.
"Welcome to the store." I tried but my lazy body won't let me speak in cheerful tone. I scanned their items and gave change of money when they paid me.
"Thank you for shopping with us. I hope to see you again."
Phew, that took a while.
I was unprepared, the store I am working on rarely gets customers at night since it is not 24/7 store.
The bill book dropped as I sat on the chair, I picked it up and then it remembered me about the strange note that was left on my shoe rack.
Who would have written those notes? I didn't even tell anyone about how I feel as a background character. Somehow I was feeling uncomfortable, not about who wrote it but the note. Am I really fine with being a background character?
The door opened again, I stood up to greet the customer. To my surprise, it was none other than Hiromi, she was wearing a cute light black sweater and skirt on top it she was also wearing a rectangle glasses.
Even if she wear different clothes, I knew it was her since she is the only girl I know who have red hair.
It was quite surprising to see her in those dress, I mean we never met as a student let alone beyond that.
"W-Welcome to the store." I hesitated. Our eyes didn't met rather her eyes were looking for something.
I didn't let the curiosity get me. I picked the book which I dropped earlier and glance at it.
I could hear every step she took, the Television was not on due to that the sound was loud and clear.
Minutes pass by and things got bit out of hand, Without my knowledge I was peeking through the transparent glass table in front of me. She was carefully holding the item and taking a long time with each items, it did took longer than I expected, she finally managed to pick a suitable item to her taste.
If you encounter this story on Amazon, note that it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.
Looks like she is coming here so I thought at the middle of path she went back to take another item.
It is not like I am selling her poison's for her to check each item.
There you go! You have done. She gave me the item and the money. I made sure we didn't made eye contact.
Sumiyaki Coffee? Was she having a hard time picking a coffee when there is only one type of brand in our store. Unbelievable.
Right after I gave her the item she straight went without a word! Just PERFECT!
And I didn't even said come back again to her.
"Kurai-San, I will take it from here, you go home and rest." It was my manager, with his brown skin, a little bread around his chin and blonde hair tied at the back and a bold tone.
"Thank you Sir." I changed back to my casual clothe and head home.
In the middle of the way-back home, I saw Hiromi and Hideki at the park talking to each other, since the path is at right side of the road I didn't wanted to interrupt those two so I hide behind the wall. I looked straight ahead just to see Hina in her casual dress- a sweater and long pants. I immediately wore my hoodie's back cap and had to walk pass by them. They were looking at me which made me walked even faster than before. Even Hina, walked back with frustration face.
*Sniff Sniff*I slowly followed her path eventually I walked pass through her ignoring her whole existences and erasing memory of 30 minutes ago.(As if I can do that)
When I looked back she was immersed into the darkness.
Few walk it took and Here I am. Home Sweet Home.
"I am back." I removed my shoes and closed the door behind.
My house has a short and small hallway containing doors on sides and one, straight ahead. My room is at the second floor, there is stairs near the straight door, at the left side corner. I was supposed to change my clothe and go to bath but I didn't had that much energy.
I slide the door at the left side finding my little sister on the couch watching her favorite TV show.
"Oh, You are back, bro." She didn't even turn back to say that.
"I am back, Again." I sighed, "Will curry do?"
"Sure, I mean, you can only make that."
Oh, look at this potatoes, all are in different shape and little bit difference in color. I washed the potatoes while I am on it I suddenly remember about the note I found on my shoes. Am I really happy acting to be a background character? Well, the answer is complicated. Anyone want to become protagonist in their own life, having that thought, everyone will try to become and that's when they truly know about How hard it is to be a protagonist. You cannot achieve like protagonist can do, getting top at National, athlete getting girls falling for you, having handsome face, great body, great mindset, flexibility, high social skills and kindness. Having all this in one person is insane, if you are trying I assure you that you can get good at one. You managed to get top at national but will it enough to make girls fall for you? You will lack communication skill and sport skills. If you managed to get good at communicating, you will hurt one way or another like Hideki hurted Hina, even though she was the one who care and loved him the most. We can never know how we hurt others unless they tell us which rarely happens. Weather you master one or two, you will always lack few skills to be a protagonist. You cannot be versatile. That's why being a background character is good enough, you can enjoy your life, having no worries, adjusting few here and there, everyone will think you are a good guy and you will not have huge impact on anyone as long as you nail it perfectly. Acting as Background Character is easy, you just got to do what you want, minimize the interaction with popular students as much as possible, try to be like everyone, accepting things here and there, Disagreeing here and there. You just need to be like them.
That way-
"Come here, the dinner is ready."
You can be truly happy with yourself-
"It looks worse than yesterday."
"Just eat."
And you will get yourself much more time to enjoy it.
