I've got 2 new skills while learning magic with mom and also a title when I was practicing with dad. Well, it's not like I was lacking skills but having learned these makes my mom happy thinking that I can protect myself if something happens.

Arriving in the center of the village I see a lot of people serving their portion of food and somewhere behind them, some groups of villagers were preparing to go to the forest next to them to get firewood.

My dad promised to take me too since the beasts were all killed in this zone. We should be safe.

Dad was discussing with the other two guardians when he notices me. I grabbed dad's pants with my little hand and raised my gaze full of enthusiasm toward him.

I look back to hide my evil smile.

He let me hug his left foot while announcing the groups of villagers.

Leaving the Iron River Village was easy, going through the woods wasn't that easy because of the snow which could measure from 1 meter to 1.5 meters, it was very easy to get lost because of the darkness between the trees and also anyone could have the luck to be buried alive under the snow that could fall from the branches of the trees at any time.

We walk for 30 minutes and get easy between the trees full of snow. Everyone knew what to do. I was following dad a bit further for the rest of the people to dig after a tree that had fallen there for a while. It took a while and the time got worse and worse.

"Okay son, now lets cut some of the branches and get home before we remain here." so he started cutting the branches with a small but sharp axe while I bowed my head as a sign of approval

He gave me a small one to carry and he tied several with a rope and pulled them on the huge snow.

"Attention! The System needs to be updated."

The window appears suddenly in front of me.

Fuck, you scared the shit out of me.

"The update will now begin. Any function of the System will now be stopped until the update is finished."

A great moment to get an update.

I was walking in front while dad following me from behind. The wind was blowing the freshly laid snow and the cold has dropped several degrees. I was stopping from time to time to check behind me. My dad was following now from 4 meters distance.

Lights could be seen far away glittering as they headed in the same direction as us. There were magic candles that could stay lit for a long time but did not light more than 2 meters around them and the glitter came from the fact that people were running with it and the light just passed through the opening between the trees.

I suddenly stopped.

Wait, why are people running? I asked myself

I turn to talk to my dad and I see him stopped for a second with his head bowed. In his left and right were small traces as if someone or something had passed by.

I don't remember to see those traces when I was passing by.

"Dad, did something happen? Are you ok?"

He raises his head saying:

"Yes son, I'm fine. Let's hurry back!"

Because of the darkness, we could distinguish people from other living creatures by two things. By the candles or by the snow that sat on the shoulders and people's heads that could be seen from a low distance. In that way, we could distinguish the human shape before it gets too close.

We get back to the village being almost the last ones.

Mr.Mhyte started to cough giving signs of a serious cold so after they brought the wood home, they returned to the center of the village at the big house where it was arranged to take care of people who had become ill.

We enter the door. Mom sees me.

"Oh my boy, I was so worried!!!" She kneels and hugs me crying

"Don't cry mommy, I'm fine. But daddy isn't."

"Boom!" Mr.Whyte falls on the ground

"Oh no!!!! Darling!!!" she screamed

Two guards come and put him in the line with others on a thick blanket with a pillow for the head so that could be space to take in more sick people. Then she checked his temperature and the vital signs.

"What happens, mommy?" I asked uneasy

The Chief enters the door. He makes eye contact with Mrs.Whyte who's head turns to the door.

"Mrs.Whyte, explain to me what is this fever about?"

"I don't know for sure because it seems to be a normal fever but all people were exposed to the same conditions and yet, only 13 of them got sick. I think they should feel better in 24 hours after getting the medicine."

He stares at the sick people on the ground.

"I'm counting on you and the rest of the healers." he leaves the house

"Yes, sir." and she turns back at her husband washing his head and chest with a piece of material soaked in medicine

I hope my dad will be fine. There are a lot of people lying here and most of them are guardians.

By the way, how much time is needed for the System to finish its update?

I sit down in a corner of the house.
