I don't know if it's good that my parents know now what I'm capable of because after that day, they fight almost every day what should I learn first, magic or self-defense using bare hands. So they split my time in two, the first part of the day mother was teaching me the basics of magic because I was rested and after that, "to clear my mind" dad's words, I was practicing with him in the garden behind the house.
A normal kid of 3 years and 8 months wouldn't even be able to understand the simplest stuff, but being reborn has its advantages. So that being said, the two parents who wouldn't believe their eyes that their kid has born with such great intelligence, right now, feel like the boy would change the world if he gets proper education instead of going to work in the village for necessities like other kids do at the age of 13 years, sometimes even younger.
Mr. Whyte took more time from his guard work to learn the little Shin how to maintain a proper posture as well as fight with the head and not sub estimate even the smallest marc.
"When you encounter an enemy even if he is stronger as you, remember that everyone has a weak spot. You must always think your action before you attack and never let your guard down or let your feelings in your way."
"Now come! Show me what you've got."
"Okay! Here I come."
Mrs. Whyte had enough time to spare for her loves child since the guards felt afraid to go hunting that often without their strongest warrior so the people who seek a healer were also not so many. When she started teaching the young Shig the basics of magic she was afraid that the mode she is teaching was too much for him, but the fear has disappeared when the boy learned 5 lessons in a week that actually would be impossible to learn in 3 months ( still, because his skill "Geniue" he learned it when he heard his mother explain to him ) but that would have been too much for her to endure so he pretended.
That's how the days past, the little Shin began took his lessons seriously and the time flowed like clear water full of radiance.
26 September 7:49 PM
The close combat lesson is over for today, dad took down my weights and smiled at me showing his gratitude for my hard work then left to change one of the guards of the village.
"It's been a while since I started practicing and I feel my body so lightly."
I send some fists in the air.
"Every move I make, it's like I'm flying... maybe it's my dad's fault... he tied weights to my hands and feet and change them with some heavier ones after getting used to the."
"Well, I guess it's fine. If this means I won't have to worry about my safety in the future, I'm willing to do anything." looking at my hands that have signs of deep healed wounds and scratches
It's hard, but since I know how strong I will become, this makes me even more excited. This is the life I wanted to have back then, in my original world... everything seemed to be ok but that bitch used me! clenching the fists
Oh, how much I hate her!!! I will never forget.
3 February 2:15 PM
No one could prevent this. No one saw it coming. No one. People were starving, the roads were inaccessible, the beasts became more and more active.
The longest winter that only in fantasy books you read about it, was here.
It was hard to make the difference between day and night. The ash-dark clouds covered everything leaving just a small light leaking between them during the day and because of that, some people lost the track of time.
A violent wind blew up some old wooden houses, people feared to get out not knowing if they might be able to come back. The biggest problem was wood for maintaining the fire up all day and all night in all the houses of the village. There were 187 houses with 416 people who needed warm cloth, something to eat at least 2 times per day and wood for the fire.
All the guardians met in the biggest house in the center of the village. It the house of a former merchant that grown too old for that job, Old Jean how people called him, gave the house to be used when important things needed to be discussed by a large number of people.
The guards entered the door. The ground floor of the house was a room large enough to hold 89 guards, 2 elders, and 4 healers. Aldaran Kojoko the chief guard, Mr. Whyte the strongest of the guards, Mrs. Whyte the best healer and the 2 elders ( Rukvir and Shiom ) sat on chairs at a round table, letting the rest of the people in the room sit on the floor and listen.
"We are here to discuss our situation. If anyone has an idea, ask and I will hear what you have to say." said Aldaran turning his head to the left to the guards on the floor
The guardians approve by bowing their heads.
"Let's begin, shall we?" said Mr. Whyte
"Yes. We are low on food, the people will start to starve in a week for now if we don't do something." said Aldaran with an angered face
"Why don't we try to catch more fish? We are near the Iron River witch has a lot of fish." said the elder Shiom
"We can't, ice is very thick, with a lot of work we managed to make a hole of 30 centimeters by working in shifts to break it with axes and other iron tools. It took us a week and I'm afraid that if it gets cold tonight, it will freeze again." said Mr. Whyte
Some guardians get Aldaran's attention.
"I ask permission to speak!" he stands up
"You may speak!" said the chief
"We would be able to break the ice if we use magic." looking at Ann
Everyone's eyes met with Ann's eyes.
"As much as I want to help this village, I can't." said Ann looking down
The guardians began to talk between them.
"You can't or you don't want to?"
"I don't think she wants to help because she thinks that we can't protect her outside the village."
"I bet she has supplies and that's why she doesn't want to be exposed to danger."
"Silence!" said the chief
Mr.Whyte gets up angry leaving the wooden chair to fall.
"My wife can't use other spells than those for healing. If she tries to use a spell from a tier greater than tier 2, it might suck all her mana and she will die instantly. Are you trying to kill my wife? Stand up shit! Let me see you."
The silence covered every corner of the room.
"Now, now... " elder Rukvir puts his hand on Mr.Whyte's shoulder to make his stand down
"No one will ask such a thing from your wife. Please stand down, let us find another way."
Mr.Whyte stands down looking at his wife who's still with her head bending down.
"There is no one in this village whose magic power to be greater than Mrs.Whyte's power so the fishing is impossible under these circumstances." said chief
Everyone had morals on the ground. The concern was read on their faces when the yellow light was coming from the fireplace.
"We can't ask for help from the capital, it will take too long to come on a normal day but with this snow that can be from 1 meter to 1 meter and a half... it's impossible! We would get the supplies in 2 months at least." said elder Shiom
"Our last hope is to hunt and eat the monster's flesh. The taste and smell are really bad, but it's edible. We must survive till the winter passes! Who agrees, raise a hand." said Chief
70 hands have risen.
Next day
The guardians were spread in 3 groups, first group's job was protection, the second group's job was killing monsters and the third group was to switch with hunters who were tired of so much hunting giving them time to rest and so on till they would hunt enough for the whole village for a period of time. Many other civilians were also there helping to take the hunted monsters back to the village and cleared the roads of snow.
The majority of the killed monsters were small Krestan Dark-Bears (a low-grade monster that looks like a normal bear but with a very hard fur, 2 meters long by 1.5 meters high, very agile in normal situations, with claws that can cut trees like cheese ) and Sfinx ( a low-grade bird monster that what looks like a crow, have 1-meter long/1 meter high by 2 meters wide ( with wings ). The monster bird can blow from its wings flinging its feathers at its enemies, infecting it with a powerful paralyzer. It can carry in the air up to 300 kg)
After taking care of the food, they all got some rest having a little celebrating in the middle of the village. The villagers serve them with drinks kept from the previous year's harvest and then sit at one of the dozens of tables arranged to be served with a hot soup.
*Back to Whyte family's house
"Shig, get some warm clothes, it's cold outside!" asked Ann from the kitchen
"Yes mom, I will." I said from my room
This time, I will go with dad outside the village. I've never been there so I'm pretty excited.
