Sui smiled at the notification signalling she had more than succeeded in her craft. She wasn’t sure what the points did or how that worked, but to have it recognised at all, Sui thought it to be a good thing. When she dismissed the notification, the dress flashed once quickly and then it cleared it looked ever so slightly brighter, as if it was being backlit by some benevolent force.
“Whoa what?” asked Trina, whipping her head around to look at the light she had seen out of the corner of her eyes, which now bore no marks of the tears she had shed before. Of course, in actuality, it had been several hours at this point, it was well past lunchtime and the sun had sunk low in the sky.
Aife, for her part, had narrowed eyes that flicked between Sui and the dress in her hands. “Do you want me to explain now?” asked Sui “Or shall you continue with the questions?”
“Ah…” Trina glanced back to the word puzzle she was doing and decided she could afford to take a break. A brief thought of cashing in her points flashed through her mind, but she put that to the side. “Yes, I can take a break” Trina finally said.
“Ok then, if you want” said Sui, and Trina couldn’t help the slight downwards twitch of her mouth that came alongside those words. Sui, for her part, just found it strange that Trina wasn’t simply completing the task in front of her first.
Sui first placed the dress down on the table before grabbing onto her chair and turning it to fully face Aife and Trina. Grabbing the dress again, she used her power to make it hover off to the side, being a bit too short to comfortably hold without covering her face. It was a surprising strain on Sui as she held it steady.
Dammit, I might be overdoing this. I must have used up too much concentration making it. Sui’s flinch wasn’t missed by Aife, but Trina’s eyes were fixed on the dress. Something about it called out to her, as if it was saying that it should be worn by her, and only her. Of course, she was actually correct in this assumption, but that was only known by Ito and Sui at the moment.
“So… what have you made here?” asked Trina
“Well… I can’t remember if I told you, but, what I’m wearing at the moment was supposed to be a present for you. It had a few more details I’d have added… maybe… but yeah, I thought I should finally get to work on some clothes for you guys as well, and seeing as Trina’s birthday is coming up soon and she has the least applicable clothes for this mess, I made hers first,” said Sui
“Hey! I have perfectly acceptable clothes for the apocalypse. What about you!?” said Trina indignantly. She of course, couldn’t hide her bright smile even with her faked annoyance, but she was trying.
The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
Sui just shrugged and gestured at her own clothes. “I can’t take these off.” And then gestured at Aife “And she’s a sports nut. These tasks might not be ‘sports’ exactly, but if you NEEDED special clothes, physical activity is likely involved so Aife also got a pass”
Trina sighed “Ok fine, you win, I guess. I’m surprised you went to the trouble of embroidering it. It’s really nice if I do say so myself”
Sui blushed slightly and looked away. Aife and Trina’s jaws nearly hit the floor seeing a bashful Sui. They were about to ask who she was and what had happened to their friend, perhaps thinking this was the real test of the wave, when Sui gave them the answer. “Um… Ito is responsible for most of this… or at least the raven part”
Aife and Trina’s eyes swapped from their friend’s face, to the spider that sat on her shoulder. Ito gave them a bit of a wave in response which caused Trina and Aife to share a look of confusion that slowly morphed into understanding as the situation unfolded in their minds properly.
“Ah” they said in sync.
After that, Trina quickly replied with “Thank you. Um… thank you both? This is a really nice outfit, and I’ll make sure I wear it soon”
Sui nodded and said “Sounds good. The bonus stats should really help” as she pushed on her power and put the dress into Trina’s hands. When it arrived though, Trina could do nothing besides stare at it and splutter. It took her a few seconds and a nudge from Aife to pull herself together.
“This gives stats?” asked Trina once she’d snapped her gaze away from the garment.
“Sort of. It has one Agility for everyone else, but for you it has two agility and one wisdom. Apparently, it’s because I was making it specifically for you. Not sure why it picked those two,” said Sui.
“Hmm” murmured Trina as she turned the dress around in her hands. “That is a good question. We should probably try and figure it out. It could be a few things. Materials for one. Could also just be the fact that it is a dress, or maybe it has something to do with the raven”
Sui tilted her head to the side “Why would it have anything to do with the raven? I just thought it would look nice and I had decided to go above and beyond my normal standards for you. Especially because in some ways this was meant to be a birthday gift, even if I’ll probably be making you a few others”
Trina licked her lips. “Well, the reason I think it might be like that is because I’m not sure where else the wisdom would come from. Plus, it is very fitting of the raven. They are agile and smart. Maybe it’s something new because of the system? Like an enchanting magic?”
“Enchanting?” asked Sui
“Eh… it’s a bit hard to explain considering it isn’t real… but basically it’s adding mana into a rune or runes when making an item to give it extra effects.” Said Trina
Sui nodded. “Huh, that should be easy to test. I can make you two pairs of underwear, one with a design and one without and we can test it like that”
Trina went bright red at that. “SUI! You can’t just do that?”
Sui tilted her head. “Why not? I made all of my own, and most of Aife’s I think. I know you haven’t really let me make you many but I don’t see why not”
Trina whipped her head around to her shrugging girlfriend. “What? Sui enjoys it, and I can just give her a bit of money for materials and always have new comfortable underwear. She needs some work on her bras, but I would just buy them occasionally when needed”
Trina sighed and looked at her dress she’d just received, before deciding to swallow the complaint she was about to level at Sui. “Ok… ok sure I can deal with that… though… maybe something else?”
Sui shook her head “Why? I think they are the smallest piece of clothing I can make for you. Maybe socks would be smaller but… I’m not sure if they would need to be a set to count? And I’m pretty sure that two socks would be more effort, or well, four socks when I finished both sets”
Trina nodded “That makes a certain amount of sense” she said, but it was more like Trina was trying to convince herself of the words than anything else.
“What do you think I should put on them? A little bear maybe? They are quite cute, and it seems appropriate,” said Sui
Trina paled and shot Aife a horrified look. “She learnt to make underwear as a little kid” said Aife as if that explained everything.
When Trina continued her glare, Aife sighed and explained. “Sui learnt by looking over children’s underwear when she was still young and has made them like that ever since”
The true horror of what she’d just signed herself up for, dawned on Trina, and she glanced up at Sui to stop her… only to find that Sui had vanished already and was off collecting thread. “Oh no,” said Trina.
“Oh yes,” said Aife.
