Sui let out a groan and started to shift as her thoughts began untangling themselves. Her memories were still slightly frayed, but they were starting to make more sense. Sui shifted until she was sitting down and leaning against the doorframe.
“Ooo, I feel like I stayed up for a week sewing” said Sui “What happened”
Ito popped out of her shoulder and mimed crashing into the door.
“Right” said Sui looking much less amused. Brushing herself off she stood of and started towards her bedroom. Sui took in the site of the outfit she still needed to do some serious work on.
I can do so much more now. What do I even need needles for if I can just order the thread into place? I can do much tighter weaves now and I might even be able to completely forgo any outside assistance like looms of sewing machines.
Sui was starting to drool slightly at the possibilities, but she didn’t notice. I need to get started right away. My headache my be trying to kill me but it’s a cheap price to pay. Sui reached out towards the outfit to start when Ito bit her on the hand.
It wasn’t hard, but it caused Sui to pause. Ito then held her legs crossed in front of her ‘No’
“No? Why not?” said Sui anger dyeing her voice “This is perhaps the greatest ability I could ever ask for. I have so many ideas they can hardly fit inside my head. We’ve been given 48 hours break, and sure I passed out for a few of those but come on. Finally, there is nothing stopping me
“I trust that you have a good reason because you are attached to my soul and you haven’t steered me wrong yet but…” Sui’s voice dropped and started to fill with malice “If you do not have a good reason I will end you”
Ito stared back like Sui was the idiot, completely ignoring the threat. Ito then tried to force Sui’s hand over. Eventually she obliged and once she saw the other side of her hands Ito was starting to make sense.
She was filthy. The fight with the wolf, and then falling down in the doorway had done her hygiene no favours. “Oh. Oh shit” said Sui realising the tragedy that almost befell her “I was about to ruin a batch of my thread wasn’t I?”
Ito nodded and sunk back into her hand. Sui then rushed over to the bathroom to get herself clean. She didn’t rush once in the shower, considering it more important to make sure that she was as clean as possible then to be done even faster.
Once she was sure that any garden remnants had been removed Sui set off back to her room to get some real clothes on this time. She picked another plain dress, this one with short sleeves and a deep purple colouring so that she wouldn’t mix up any of the thread she was working with.
This was made after the realisation that her power sort of let her… taste? For lack of a better term, what colour the cloth was. Is taste really the best sense to map it to? It isn’t vision, and it isn’t touch. Touch is more about figuring out what kind of material it is and how much control.
It certainly isn’t smell, because it doesn’t feel anything like that. Sui shrugged off her thoughts though. They were not important right now. Once again Sui walked over to the outfit, now seeming woefully armature with her newfound senses.
Of course, Sui was just being unnecessarily harsh on herself here. She had done hardly any work on the main outfit yet, and if Sui was an armature then nobody on Earth that had less then 50 years dedicated to the craft could claim to be a master.
The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
Sui was also ignoring the mess in the corner of her room that included her previous undergarments, and shoes but she was happy to keep her scissors after a quick wash. They didn’t have much dirt, and didn’t see that much use in the fight.
As she placed her hand on the outfit and felt her thread awareness spread across it, Ito tapped her hand lightly. “What now” said Sui, with a level of patience that surprised even her.
Ito pointed towards her midsection ‘You need to eat first’
“I do not Ito. I can eat later this is more important” said Sui
Ito shook her head and rapidly moved her various legs around before collapsing ‘You are going to work until you collapse, you need to eat first’
Sui bit her lip and glanced between the dress and her hand with Ito on it. I really don’t want to admit Ito is right… but… the chances are really high.
Ito rolled her legs around putting them near her mouth, and then mimed threading something between her legs ‘Eat first then work’
Sui bit her lip and wanted to argue with Ito but new she was right. Rather than waste time fighting over the inevitable Sui rushed out to the kitchen. She looked past the meat that would take too long to cook and collected the oldest looking fruits and vegetables.
Eating them quickly and completely ignoring the horrid taste of eating such a grab bag of ingredients together without cooking, Sui swallowed and threw her plate and cup into the sink to deal with alter before sprinting back to her room.
Now with no distractions. She sat across from the dress. Cracked her knuckles and reached out her hand. Only for Ito to stop her once again. “What now” said Sui, visibly saddened. “I was angry, but you were right the first time. I was calm, and accepting, and I didn’t fight the inevitable and got food, and now I just want to work on this beautiful piece until I pass out, is that too much to ask?”
Ito mimed threading something, then held up her legs and looked something over before tossing it to the side ‘You need practice. You don’t know enough to be proficient’
“Ok” said Sui biting her lip “I can accept that” putting her mannequin to the side Sui started to fish out the various thread from her scraps draw. The various last dregs of thread she had accumulated from one project or another and never quite got around to buying more of.
She laid them all out, from thinnest to thickest, and ignored the eclectic range of colour on display. “Ok, so Ito, your right. How do we start” said Sui
Ito tilted her front two legs ‘Why are you asking me’
“That is a good response” said Sui looking back to the thread arrayed before her.
Ok, so let’s start with the basics. Sui unravelled what remained of some very thin blue thread and let it sit on her palm. Focusing on it, she found she could pull it around quite easily with seemingly little effort.
Sui nodded. Ok, so, I can move this without trouble. Now is it an issue of quantity? Thickness? Distance? Should I try to lift this one?
Sui discarded the last idea. It just wasn’t worth the risk yet. Sui then proceeded to run through her various scrap thread with the same barest hint of effort. It took some concentration, but nothing more straining then threading a rather easy needle.
Sui bit her lip. So, do I grab some longer stuff or try to lift stuff? Sui had a burning desire to try and lift the thread again. She could so much with the increased mobility. Not having to have her hand near would be a godsend… but she was scared to lose even more time. Being unconscious was certainly not productive
Sui went back to her drawers and looked around for a rather garish green thread she picked up once upon a time. It was still the full amount she’d purchased back in a bunch on sale. It never really went with anything.
Finally, you shall have a purpose. Sui smiled as she held the thread in hand keeping her finger along the end. Sui started to pull it along her arm, making sure to keep still and in the centre so that it didn’t risk falling off.
Once again, having the thread crawl along her body wasn’t particularly hard. Sui decided to move this testing to the kitchen. Setting up at the dining table Sui kept her hand on the thread as she let it snake across the table.
As more and more thread unwound Sui started to feel a pressure building in the back of her mind. This time she was careful. She carefully continued to unwind it.
As she did though, it only seemed to get harder at strange intervals. Slowing down even further and concentrating Sui watched for the next slight increase in pressure. There! Sui caught it just as she bent the thread around. Distance. Sui tried to bring the thread all back towards her and felt the pressure on her mind lessen
