Hope Has Descended (1)

"Arghh!!!"

A loud voice rang through the forest. It came from a full black-armored man looking like a knight. Holding a sword and a shield, the man pin the sword on the right arm firmly to the ground as if trying to stand straight while kneeling on the ground. His armor was scorched from top to toe as the smoke covering it. Apparently, it was hit with something like an explosion. Before he stands three persons in robes, they all share the same color of dark blue. Each one of them carries a wand half the length of their body. The three mages then murmured something. Clearly, they are trying to cast another spell to dump on the poor knight.

"Ralph!!! How can they break my barrier?? Hold on I'm going to heal yo- Kyaaa!!"

The girl's voice was cut off. Her name is Aria. She wearing a priest-like white robe and a cap, on her left hand holding a staff decorated beautifully with green, red, and blue gems. She has a petite appearance, so fragile that it seemed like a gentle breeze was enough to blow her away. Her shoulder was hit by an arrow. Staggering, she tried to steady herself, her short golden hair fluttering in the process and focus chanting a short spell "Light Arrow" then fire off to a nearby bush. By the time the spell hit, whoever was there was far gone.

The assassin went around to flank Aria from the side. He was so fast that Aria could only sense him after his blade was right onto her neck. But just before the blade could pierce through, it was intercepted by a greatsword with a "Clang!!". Its wielder foresaw the situation and went one step ahead of him. Sparks flew as it reveals a pair of red eyes and blazing hair like fire staring directly at the assassin. The girl wearing tattered leather armor, a steel shoulder guard, and a bow strapped behind the back. With a quick motion, the woman swung the sword horizontally and cut down the assassin cleanly. Then hurried to correct her position before Aria.

Melissa [https://i.imgur.com/KcEEQbo.png]

"Thanks, Melissa!"

"Damn it! At this rate, we're gonna be overwhelmed! Ralph, can you stand?"

Aria and Melissa currently standing behind a luxurious carriage indicated that there was someone important inside, facing a group of men in black cloaks. Ralph standing in front tanking all the hits from the mages in front, unable to do anything because he has to protect the carriage.

From the rear, dead bodies of knights scatter around the carriage along with some gray wolves.

Between them stands a man in white armor full of blood panting heavily. It is from the enemies or his own subordinates? He couldn't tell.

"Your Highness! Zara! are you all alright?"

"Yeah! Please hold on a little longer..."

"This much won't kill me... Sorry for letting you do all the works..."

The girl then resumed chanting the spell she has been preparing, beside her laid a badly injured female knight. Zara raised her left arm gesture a thump up while the right arm tried to bandage the wound. Faint light emitting from inside, warping the entire carriage as it glowing more and more intensified.

She is Sylvia Saville, the Second Princess of the Vritearal Kingdom. One of the powerful countries located in the eastern of the continent. She was on an investigation trip to find out the reason for the increasing number of monsters in this area then suddenly got ambushed by a group of assassins. The convoy has been fighting for half an hour as both parties' numbers gradually became thin.

"Blasted! Don't they feel tired??" said the captain of the knights as he held off waves after waves of gray wolf attacks.

Each time a wolf dies, he instantly recovered from a healing spell from of the mages in front. Ralph can't advance nor he can attack, so his only option is to wait for Melissa. But Melissa has to defend Aria from the four assassins and it's not like Aria can switch position to the front that quick without getting hurt by the wolves. That could be possible with some knights escort her but they were all dead except the captain.

Their only hope now is the "Advanced Teleportation" which the princess is casting inside the carriage. It is not an easy spell, it required a massive amount of mana and the caster's concentration to keep it stable. Normally, the spell can carry three people including the caster at most to be more efficient with time. But that meant leaving the other three behind. That she couldn't allow. The process needed a considerable amount of time because she has to transport all five people in one go.

(You have to save them, Sylvia. Come on... Focus! Focus!)

Sylvia poured all her mana onto the spell. Her face showed a tin of exhaustion. She can't let these people die. She has the responsibility to protect all the subjects regardless of who they are, "Each person is the country's treasure" had been taught to her since birth. Although Sylvia couldn't protect all the knights that died, she could at least do this much.

But then things turned for the worst...

The sound of battle rang once more. This time it is more fierce.

The three mages cast a large fireball and shot directly at Ralph. He went to confront it head-on, raising his shield and taking a defensive stance, he murmured and activated "Fortification" which increase his physical and magical defense. For if he dodges, the carriage will take full damage.

"!!!"

A loud "Bang" follows was an earthquake big enough to shake the whole ground within 300m. Ralph was knocked backward onto the carriage. What surprised him was not the force of the explosion, but that he was unharmed.

At that time, the assassins all attacked at once. Melissa moved to protect Aria while she fired off "Tier 2: Earth Magic: Swamp" had been secretly cast. A large swamp appeared below the assassin, rendered two of them immobile. Melissa took the chance and used her bow.

"Tier 2: Wind Magic: Artemis's Arrow" said Melissa.

Two arrows with extremely high accuracy made of wind flew straight for their heads. With a double "Thock", two bodies fell.

"Two left- Wah??"

The assassin with big stature pinned down Melissa while the other chased after Aria.

"Damn! Run Aria!"

Not enough time to cast barrier. Aria tried to raise her staff to defend herself but with the difference in speed, she got slashed from the shoulder down. "Gyaaaaaaaa!!!" Aria screamed in pain.

Melissa used all her strength to shake off the assassin, but all her attempts became fruitless. She looked around and saw the captain in the same situation with the wolves.

Aria kneeled. Her white robe was dyed red with blood. Her teary eyes look at the assassin with a terrified expression. His blade swung horizontally towards her neck.

(Oh God... So this is how I die... Huh?)

"Thump!" His head fell and rolled on the ground. A stream of blood spurted out of the assassin's neck where once his head was and splattered onto Aria's face. His body laid motionless on the ground. It was an instant death

Unbothered by the dead body, Aria stared intensely in the sky above her. There stay a girl with a pure white short dress, has long hair as black as the starless night sky waving with the winds. Her right hand held a dark red sword at her waist. A crystalize pair of wings formed behind her back glittering under the sun.

Melissa and the other assassin both looked dumbfounded. Unable to understand what just happened.

"A... Goddess...?" said Aria.
