Chapter 7

Damn… I made a mistake… This is seriously bad… What's bad you may ask? Being chased by a group of killer golems while your skills are on cooldown.

Let's rewind back the time for a bit.

Hours earlier…

I was all alone, following the directions given by appraisal. I was still on the 50th floor as this floor is seriously huge. At most, the size of the king' castle.

While navigating, I was defeating lone golems one by one. Thanks to my skill, I became stronger. If Wraith King was a durable fighter, than I am too. Apparently, the stats of the hero I copy is given to me. So right now, I am tanky, and can recover my life with each of my attacks.

The sight was surreal. Everytime I attack, the wounds I got from fighting heals on its own. The sight of closing wounds and bruises fading made feel that this really a fantasy world.

“OOOooo!”

A golem that I was fighting, was doing it's last desperate charge. Too bad for you because I got a skill.

“[Wraithfire Blast]!”

A green ball of flame with a skull inside emerged from my right hand and headed straight to the charging golem. The ball of flame crashed into the golem and shifted it's center of gravity, causing it to trip and stumble down.

“One more hit!”

I charged towards the stunned golem and delivered a strike at it's cracked spot where the ball of flame hit.

*Shwing*

Oh? Did I trigger [Mortal Strike]? It felt like it dealt more damage than my previous attacks.

The golem crumbles down and leaves behind a shiny yellow gem. It is the so called ‘core’ of monsters. Here is the ranking.

• White

• Blue

• Yellow

• Orange

• Red

With white being the highest. Red monster cores can price from about 50 copper coins to a silver coin. Orange for a silver coin to 25 silver coins. Yellow for 25 silver coins to a gold coin. Blue for a gold coin to 50 gold coins. And white for 50 gold coins to a white gold coin. This here is the order of currency in this world.

• 100 copper coins = 1 silver coin

• 100 silver coins = 1 gold coin

• 100 gold coins = 1 white gold coin

• 100 white gold coins = 1 platinum coin

Where 2 silver coins can supply you for a day. The monthly income for an average citizen in this world is about 65 silver coins. A white gold coin can buy you a house while a platinum coin can buy you a castle.

Back to the present.

I took the monster core and placed it inside my bag. Sadly, my skill [Dota 2 Skill Set] doesn't come with an inventory. At least you could have given me the [Item Box] skill! Was what I complained in my mind.

“Appraisal, where next?”

(Turn right at the next junction and head straight to reach the stairs.)

Yoshi! Let's go!

It’s been an hour since I left the 50th floor, and there seems no end to this.

“Appraisal… Where…?”

(Head straight.)

My haggard body is complaining to my brain to rest, while my brain says otherwise. This 49th floor is just as huge as the 50th floor. At least, there are no monsters here.

I continued for half an hour before my body gave up. I crawled towards the wall to have something to lean on.

“Wait… for… me… Kayaka…”

After saying those words, I succumbed to the fatigue and fell asleep.

~ Kayaka POV ~

“Kouta-nii!!!”

When we teleported out of the dungeon, I tried running back inside but was stopped by the knights and my classmates. Hyoudo too, also wanted to head back inside and rescue Kouta, but was stopped again by the knights and students.

While heading back, I strained my ears on the knights conversations, and I heard something I mustn’t forget while I am alive.

“The plan worked. But who knew that one of the Demon Generals was there.”

“I know right? At least, the one who died was a useless hero who can't even pull his own weight. No wonder the king ordered his disposal.”

As they chattered away in low voices, feelings of rage and regret welled up inside me. I wanted to kill those bastards who did that to Kouta. Until I kill every last one of them, I will never avenge my brother's death and be happy, for his sake too.

Hyoudo, who was staring at me while we were walking, looked at me with mixed feelings. He was probably regretting that he didn't try hard enough to help Kouta.

When we arrived back in town, I went straight ahead to the inn we booked at. I entered our room and got on my bed. Hyoudo was downstairs, eating while mocking himself at his foolishness, while I cried my eyes out on my bed.

“Kouta-nii… Why did you leave me…? Didn't you say… That you won't die, and we will be together forever?”

Sorrow and grief filled my heart as I cried another bucketful of tears.

“Kouta-nii… Kouta-nii… Again… It happened again… Please come back… Please…”

For the next few days, I never went out of the room of the inn.

~ Kouta POV ~

I woke up and and felt something on my head. When I used my hand to reach for it, I felt something fluffy. I picked it ip and gazed at it. It looked like a furball with green eyes and soft blue fur. It had a tail like a bunny and a mouth that is in the shape of an inverted m. In short, it looks so cute! Appraisal! Help me!

A B rank monster that mostly lives in dungeons. Their species is hard to detect as they are mostly hiding from other species. It is friendly to humans, but their strength is equal to an experienced knight commander so don't try to fight it. Because of it's adorableness, once found, it is almost always kept as pets.

… So, a hairy furball that can rival a knight commander. It was sleeping on my head earlier, so does that mean it became attached to me? I gazed into its eyes that held no impurity.

“Puuu~?”

The furbal tilted it's head and gazed back at me. Thi- this is too damn cute! I need a camera! Someone give me a camera!

(Memory recorded… Would you like to save?)

Appraisal… Is that you? But for now, YES!!! I want to show this to Kayaka when I get back.

When the memory finished saving, a small crystal appeared in my hands.

Ohh!!! I can't wait to show this to Kayaka. I already had enough rest. Let's get moving!

I stood up and started to move towards the direction given by appraisal. While I was walking, I noticed that the furball was following me.

“… Do you want to come with me?”

I asked it in hopes that it can understand me. Luckily…

“Puruu~!! Pururuu~!!!”

Oh? Looks like it wants to come with me. I picked the furball up, and it climbed on my head. So cute.

“What should I name you?”

“Pururuu?”

The furball tilted it's head/body while I was thinking of a name to give it.

“Yoshi! Your name is Furry!”

“Puruu~!”

Looks like it likes it's new name. Now then, shall we advance?
