VRMMO - Breach
Chapter VI
{Your teammate, “PlatinumAlice”, has been killed by the player “DivineCrown”.}
Simon’s pupils expanded upon seeing the notification. A few seconds ago, he was waiting for his opponent to rush into this room. It turns out that he was chasing his teammate. It was logical that he would chase the one who attacked him first, but… how could he do it so quickly?
Simon didn't have an answer for that, but he was trying to find out before this game was over.
The timer had already passed a minute and a half, and he had to hurry or he would be eaten up in the zone before he could offer any resistance to the players. A few hundred meters away, he saw the building that Alice had mentioned.
The one with the highest and most floors in the city. Simon ran towards that building. His avatar worked to the maximum. He used another adrenaline rush. There was no need to consider the consequences. He just had to win the game, and this syringe would help him out with energy loss.
{Players left: 4}
In addition to Simon and Crown, there were two other players in this game who were arguably the best in the match. He would have to play more carefully because the zone would stop around that tall building and then disappear altogether.
The zone was still shrinking, and it was following Simon as he ran towards the tall building. Simon also wondered if there were other players around. He was sure that the Crown was there because he was the one who killed Alice, but the other two might just be still in the city.
With no additional information, Simon took the first step into the tall building. He didn't even know what building it was. Where were the doors and where were the stairs? He would have to familiarize himself with this building. It was like learning theory during practice, but he couldn't say he hadn't done it before. There were moments when they had to operate without information during the call.
He was ready for any eventuality, and so he entered the first room of the huge building. His eyes were fixed on every corner and movements. These small movements were effects added by the developers. They were distracting, but what Simon was doing required a momentary reassessment of everything.
It was impossible to hear his heartbeat at this time in the game, but he was sure that it was working at a normal pace outside as well.
"Ah," he smiled to himself. This kept reminding him of one scenario, but he was not alone in that one time. "It's still not the same." He thought and got down to business.
Simon discovered the location of the first stairs. He came over, bent forty-five degrees to the side, looked up to check, and went up with the gun as always pointed forward. This would continue for a few more seconds until he found other players or was sure that he was alone.
Ah, yes. He also had to watch his back. There was always a danger that the enemy would shoot him in the back.
There was no sound coming from Simon; he was silently walking up the stairs. There was just the sound of tapping from his shoes. His breathing was so controlled that it was barely audible, even by him. It blended with the sound of the wind flowing through this building.
If smell played any role in the game, then Simon would have paid attention to it. Good thing, the game was not designed that way.
At that moment, Simon was on the seventh floor, but neither the two players nor the Crown were anywhere to be seen. Presumably, the two players have just entered this building or are outside... There were no gunshots.
Simon's body tensed. He believed that Crown was hiding on the top floor and was waiting for them. He was sure of this; he would have no other options. It is the best position.
At that moment, the zone ignited around the building, creating a perfect circle. After close observation, he now realizes what this zone is. Inside the zone, a person simply dies and freezes to death.
A few more minutes, and the border of the zone will disappear completely. Simon has to rush and find the position of the enemies as quickly as possible. There is no guarantee that he will last longer in the zone than others.
He picked up his pace and ran faster up the stairs, reaching the highest floors soon. He started aggressively checking the corners and hiding places. His avatar was already starting to feel tired, but for the last minutes remaining, Simon was ready to take risks.
He reached the highest floor. He climbed the last step of the stairs, and in front of him was an iron door. He gently took the handle, and after turning it, he opened the door a little and checked if there was any trap inside or not.
Everything was clean, you could go in, but to go in without any surprises would be complete idiocy. It was necessary to somehow reduce the concentration of the enemy to a minimum, Simon still had one flash grenade left. It was always worth using it.
Then the grenade fell on the rock-hard floor and popped like a balloon for a moment. Simon avoided looking into the room at that second, and when the small explosion was over, he opened the door and entered the great room.
The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.
Left and right, Simon checked every corner, but he couldn't see anyone standing. Alice's avatar was lying on the floor.
‘Where could he have gone?’ When he thought about this, he noticed a large hole cracked in the big window of this room. ‘Definitely, it was him.’ Simon concluded. He ran to that place and checked it.
There was a rappel attached to a concrete floor. It was going down from the highest floor to the bottom of it. The interesting part was, has Crown left after he killed Alice or just now? If only by now, then there were little problems.
Simon looked out of the window and into the windows of the lower floors. One of them was broken, it turns out that the Crown went down to that floor.
*Loud Steps*
The gun was immediately in position when Simon heard the sound of someone rushing upwards at high speed. He was running, not even trying to hide that he was there. 'Who is that?' thought Simon. It didn't seem like a professional move...unless there was something that gave him an advantage for such an attack.
He looked at Alice's avatar...he didn't want to lose, so he would do everything in his prowess.
*Clank*
Another metal ball burst into the room, and of course, it was a grenade. There was no place to hide. The two options that the operator had were to return this grenade by throwing it back or to use the rappel and leave the place. Using the rappel seemed a lot more attractive idea, besides safer, so that's what Simon chose.
In a very practiced manner, Simon tied his belt to the rope, and when the grenade went off, he was already horizontally standing on the wall outside the building. He could freely walk on the walls.
He took out the remaining grenade from his inventory, and "it's still worth returning." He threw them into the room.
This time the room was in a serious explosion, but Simon had long since slipped from floor to floor. He had already reached the fifth floor.
In the process, he also found the last two players who were survivors, and unfortunately for Simon, they turned out to be teammates. 'Will it work or not?' He weighed his chances... sliding all the way in was risky. This rappel was already in turmoil after the explosion.
"Who dares, wins." He said it out loud to himself. Simon kicked the wall with his feet, flew in the air for a few seconds, and then, because of the inertia, he crashed into the window.
*Shatter*
The window broke under his weight, and the two players were quick to notice. Unfortunately, it was too late to do anything. Simon jumped to his feet steadily, and in less than a second, he pulled out his pistol and fired.
The bullet hit the opponent in the forehead, and his health was reduced by seventy percent. His avatar was immobilized as he was knocked down by Simon.
“What the f*ck?!” The enemy teammate had brought out his weapon and was ready to shoot at Simon. It was fired, but Simon had a plan. He slid to his enemy teammate's side and used him as a shield. The bullets hitting the teammates don’t damage them. Teamkills are non-existent in these kinds of PVP games. The operative knew this from his childhood.
"Hey, come on!" Before he could say anything more, Simon shot him in the head with his pistol from the side of the dead, knocking his health once again by seventy percent.
*bang* *bang*
{You have shot the player “BaldEagle” in the head.}
{You have shot the player “BaldPidgeot” in the head.}
Two more shots from the pistol and the two opponents were finished. And there's the only one left... Who is probably coming down the stairs? Unless he is going to risk using the rappel.
Simon could very well wait here because these dead bodies have quite a lot of loot in them. Even medications that could heal his health bar. He could outlive DivineCrown if it's about that. Yes, he could do that. He isn’t taking any risks at that.
Just out of curiosity, he wondered how Alice was feeling right now. Was she spectating his gameplay? If so, he’d probably have a lot of explaining to do later on... Otherwise, how could just a normal airsoft player pull off these tricks?
Simon controlled this room in its entirety, it was in his full view. The rappel wasn’t moving, meaning Crown wasn’t using it. There were no sounds on the staircase; this building was just covered in silence.
The remaining time ended before the zone commenced to shrink till its disappearance.
Maybe this was the one precise moment Crown was waiting for when Simon received the notification about the zone. No, the operative was never distracted, but even professionals like him wouldn’t expect that.
In slow motion, the young man’s eyes caught something, or to be exact, someone falling outside the window.
His eyes stared at that grinning face... Then there was a flash.
{You have been killed by the player, “DivineCrown”.}
{Your entire team has been eliminated.}
{Your team finished second in this game.}
This was unbelievable...Crown died in free fall, but he died after the operative did, meaning the win counted for him. Simon could only laugh as he was teleported back to the lobby. This was crazy... but it was just the game. He couldn’t expect everyone to act according to the protocols.
“Simon!”
The first voice he heard was Alice's, as she ran up to him in her platinum-haired avatar. She was probably disappointed. “Sorry, Alice. I couldn’t win.” The operative said with an apologetic smile.
“Are you kidding?! This was so cool!”
Simon flinched. Her emotions seemed a little bit opposite of what he expected. Wasn’t losing just bad? Or was she just trying to cheer him up? He asked himself. “I did great?”
Alice exclaimed, “Of course, those kills were so good! Especially that moment when you killed the two players together. Even the Divine guy got very lucky. Otherwise, you’d win it easily.”
The young man scratched his cheek, “Uh, I mean, we lost. Even if I could win, what’s the point of playing the duo match if you don’t enjoy the moment with your partner?”
“Simon…” Alice was so inspired that she wanted to cry.
“Hey, look, it’s us there.”
