VRMMO - Breach
Chapter V
With no care, Alice was keeping her leg on the pedal like a mad lad. The speedometer was close to hitting its absolute maximum and the engine was close to melting. How Simon maintained his composure was a mystery. However, this was a game with no traffic laws, so she could drive however she liked.
For what she had in mind at the moment, Alice just had to drive faster to get better positions. The killer zone, which killed everyone it went past, was only shrieking, and its center seemed to be that central city.
The urban environment was always the worst enemy for every Breach player, they just didn’t like them. In this game, even entering some kinds of urbanized environments needed a skill. With so many buildings in a city, you are basically blind. You don’t know from where the enemy will shoot and where you can search for them.
She, therefore, sought out a good hiding spot where she could camp out and wait for the players to decline. The city was already in their sight as they neared it.
…
“Wehooo!”
In the streets of the central city, there was chaos. Nobody knew who was shooting whom, as nobody cared about identifying their enemies. Their concern was to kill as many people as possible, so they wasted a lot of ammo.
*Bang* *Bang*
Someone was shooting from a very loud weapon. The bullet seemed to be of a higher caliber; the hole was cracked in the wall where it hit. Too bad, someone was going to use the noise as a way to identify the person’s location.
A metallic ball ricocheted from a nearby wall and landed next to the shooter. The latter widened his eyes. He tried to run away, but it was too late. The ball was actually a powerful grenade; *Boom*, which exploded, killing the guy instantly.
{Your teammate, “Bomberman”, has been killed with a grenade.}
That unfortunate guy also had a teammate, “Tch, why are my teammates always some randoms?”
It was already his fifth attempt to play a normal game, and every time those guys on his team were dumbasses who couldn’t even read the flow of the game. But he understood why it was happening. The game was putting the weak with the strong to create balance.
The player “DivineCrown” had a high arcade stage and he was a good player, but he was put with someone from the last stage. Even if he tried to protect, he can’t just save his teammate all the time.
Crown clicked his tongue, “Damn you.” He threw the smoke grenade as a distraction toward his enemy.
The cylinder leaked green smoke and filled the corridor until nothing could be seen through it. DivineCrown waited; he concentrated on hearing the footsteps of his enemy. While he was doing so, he prepared another grenade in his hands.
*Tap*
DivineCrown heard what he wanted, “Big mistake, buddy. You had to crawl.” The explosive rolled on the ground and reached the other side of the corridor. There was another loud bang, but no notification. ‘He didn’t die?’
Grabbing his weapon, Crown burst into the smoke. His loud steps alerted the enemy, but his opponent couldn’t see him in the smoke. *Fwosh* Crown came out of the smoke and tackled. He heard the bullets pass over his head; his enemy was anticipating him coming out like this. Oh no no.
*Brtt!*
DivineCrown responded with the same. Just when his eyes met the guy, he unleashed an entire magazine on him. They didn’t reach the target but won the time as the guy hid behind the wall.
Crown cracks a smile ‘Now, you won’t get away from me, bastard.’ He thought and pushed his avatar back onto its feet.
Even without seeing his enemy, his instincts were telling him where the enemy was. Just as he turned the corner, his submachine gun's stock was thrust forward with great force. *Clank* It hit the metallic helmet and knocked down the enemy. With no time to reload, Crown just threw his smg at the guy before he could point a gun at him.
He grabbed the knife, 'Hah, got you.'
*Slick*
It sliced in the guy’s neck, Crown got the notification of his kill and thus took the knife out after confirmation.
{You have killed the player “Butch3r” with a knife.}
He cheered, “Aye! Now gimme the good stuff.” Of course, after every kill, the player had to check the loot and grab something that could be helpful. Crown got himself an assault rifle with a few mags, definitely something he needed.
“This guy is absolutely looted!”
He got new armor, guns, and supplies, which could quite literally guarantee him the win in this match. How could this guy even die so easily? With just thirty-six players remaining alive in the game, he can outlast each of them.
With newfound confidence, he left the building to search for more targets. Now he didn’t care about his teammate anymore. It was a little bit of his narcissistic nature that told him he was the best player in this battle royale.
If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.
Immediately, there was a gunshot heard. There were still some players in the city, and more were arriving as the zone shrank. Crown had no choice but to engage. He wasn’t trying to minimize the waste; no, he kept shooting. Quite successfully at that.
Someone attempted to tackle and then shoot him in the head but miscalculated the time his avatar could slide on the ground.
{You have shot the player, "ItsBobby", in the head.}
Crown knew a simple trick; he only aimed at the head and only the head. even over small distances where you need quick reflexes. One hit in the head always means that your enemy is incapable of continuing the battle.
This was a similar case. Just one bullet in the head, and Crown was already taking the loot from the dead avatar.
*Bang* *Bang*
Two gunshots were aimed right at him. In time, he managed to jump away and hide behind a barrier. *Vroom* Car blitzed into the street and went over a dead body that he was previously looting. ‘It would’ve been better if you hadn’t shot.’ He thought and mirrored their actions.
DivineCrown launched his own assault and aimed at the wheels. *Bang!* The first bullet hit the tire, resulting in its explosion. The rim was dragged on the asphalt and caused violent sparks to shoot out.
“He got us!” The platinum-haired girl, who was struck by the sudden escalation, shouted. Of course, the car belonged to Alice and Simon.
Simon shook his head, “What did you expect? Now get out.” He calmly got out of the car once it stopped. This street had a lot of barriers, and he used one of them for the covers. He knew that it wouldn’t last for long.
While Alice covered his back, Simon proceeded to locate their shooter. Judging by the tire that exploded, the shooter was definitely on the right side of the street. But his eyes couldn’t catch anyone. ‘Maybe behind the buildings? In the lanes?’ The operative assumed and he was right,
The bullet flew past his ears and he heard it hit someone, “Dang it!” Alice screamed at the top of her lungs. Whoever it was, just hit Alice’s armor and wounded her. More bullets followed, but by this time Alice had also found a good position.
[Alice, are you knocked down?] Simon asked, and Alice responded with a no. [Just be careful of the grenades.] While bullets wouldn’t pass through the concrete barrier, an explosive could very well demolish it.
*Rat-ta-ta-ta!*
Simon held the weapon’s stock on his shoulder, and with great accuracy, he opened fire at the player. His shoulder tingled with every shot, but it was nothing; this gun had little to no recoil at all. The enemy received a shot at his shoulder. It didn’t kill him, but only warned him of the danger so that he could cover behind the wall. ‘Oh, come on. He should be down on the floor by now.’
Still, the human anatomy in this game wasn’t very realistic, but yes, the collar bone should’ve been cracked in half by now.
*Bang*
{You’ve assisted the player, “DivineCrown”, in killing player, “OGdavos”..}
‘What? So it didn’t count?’ His kill was not only stolen, but apparently, there were two players here all along. Simon kept his guard and expected that Divine guy to jump out immediately for him.
He didn’t do that,
*Clank*
Simon instantly recognized this sound and jumped away as quickly as possible. This was either a grenade or a flashbang. In his mind, the operative had to admit that this guy knew how to play and didn’t attack openly.
*Boom*
Whatever it was, it did explode and sent the rumble flying all across the street. The sound of this explosion was so loud that it overshadowed what Simon wanted to hear. His ears couldn’t pick up the noise of footsteps, he could only wait for the moment.
He instructed his partner, [Alice, just hide wherever you can, and if you are going to kill someone, tell me.]
[Yeah, I will do that. My armor is almost done for, I can’t engage.] Alice disconnected from the radio and did as she was asked.
Simon narrowed his eyes and wondered, ‘Now, who the hell is this guy.’ The broadcast he watched today mentioned some Divines. This guy had the same thing in his username and was a good player. His actions were all things a professional would do.
‘Let’s see if you can outsmart me.’
The operative took out the smoke grenade from his inventory, pulled the pin, and threw it in the direction of the Divine guy. Smoke covered a path for him, and knowing that the dude wouldn’t shoot blindly, Simon ran inside a building.
He ran up the staircase so that there was only one way his enemy could engage him. He was also on the staircase of the third floor. In case Crown threw a grenade or a flashbang, Simon needed a quick escape route. This was a good position in itself; he could view the entirety of the room.
Now there is only patience and awareness needed. The field Simon works in requires them to have both of those qualities. Now, would the player DivineCrown have those qualities as well?
{3 minutes left until the zone shrinks completely.}
Simon disregarded this notification. He was concentrating on his surroundings. He was too into the process and didn’t have a desire to remove his eyes from the staircase to the second floor. Two of his eyes were wide open and he could see everything one hundred and eighty degrees.
While the danger zone outside was approaching, this particular building was quiet. Simon was waiting… There were no movements heard.
Crown either had already left or was waiting for him outside. First was the option, but Simon had a feeling his enemy was waiting for him at the doorstep. So, if he couldn’t just exit this building, he might as well ask for someone to tell him.
Simon connected with his partner on the radio, [Alice, you are still alive, aren’t you?]
[Yes I am, what are you even doing? I’m waiting for you at the tallest building.] Alice responded on the radio in a second. She was worried.
[I’m at the same exact place we once were. Can you check if there is someone else around this place?]
There was a silence for a few seconds, and then Alice spoke up, [The street is clear, there doesn’t seem to be anyone else. You can exit carefully.]
[Thanks.] Simon cut off the connection between himself and his partner. He threw a flashbang down the staircase to the first floor and waited for it to explode. *Bang*
The room flashed white for a second, and a loud drumming sound could be heard outside. Simon, with quick steps, rushed down and inspected the room. His aimpoint traveled left and right before confirming that there was no one.
He sighed, [Alice, I’ll be coming to you now.]
[Yes, please, do it quickly if you can. I can hear the footsteps of multiple play-]
*Bang*
{Your teammate, “PlatinumAlice”, has been killed by the player “DivineCrown”.}
