Somewhere in the emptiness of space two forces were waging a small war, that is what you would think seeing the scene, but in truth it was only a one-sided massacre. One side had ships twice the size of the other as well as thrice the number, yet it was the greater force that was losing this farce.
The smaller force seemed to completely outclassed their enemy, they knew exactly where to hit the enemy, they knew exactly where not to be when the enemy fired heavy weapons, they even seemed to know every movement the enemy had planned. It was truly a battle that defied common sense.
Inside the largest ship on the field a ragged man sat in the captain’s chair and slammed his fist on the arm rest.
“Damnit! They aren’t even a quarter of us, how are we losing!” growled the man in a frustration.
An explosion rocked the ship, causing all the members in the room to brace themselves instinctively.
“Get me an update on the damage!” roared the captain, breathing shallowly.
“We’ve lost the port engines!... Intruder! There’s someone on the ship!” shouts another man in slight panic.
“Wha- HOW?! Send troops! Get more info on that intruder ASAP!” the captain shouted, partly in confusion, partly in anger.
“The intruder is female! She’s confronting the troops in the Cargo ho- THE TROOPS ARE DOWN!” the second man screamed, starting to hyperventilate through the panic.
“Impossible! That was twelve men! Half of them elites! How coul-” the captain started to say but was interrupted by another explosion shaking the room, “DAMAGE REPORT!”
The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
“Warp Drive is offline!” the man responded.
“Shit! Where’s the intruder?!” the captain called out desperately.
“I lost- ah…” the man’s panic crumbled into a serene acceptance.
“What do you mean ‘lost her’?! Where is she?!” the captain called.
Hearing a feminine giggle behind him he froze, “I’m right here, captain.”
Slowly turning to see who was behind him he gave a wry smile, “Miss Sakurano, to what do I owe the pleasure?”
“Nothing personal, business as usual.” The woman said.
“That so? What a pity, I was really hoping to get to know you better…” the captain said sarcastically.
The other members of the room sat in silence, not wanting to draw the attention of the assassin that overpowered their troops.
“Maybe we’ll get another chance to meet in the underworld… till then, I suppose ‘goodbye’ is appropriate.” Said the woman right before decapitating the man with her katana.
She sheathed her sword in a regal pose and glanced at the other people in the room, gesturing towards the door with a motion of the head. The others fled the room and she approached the captain’s console.
She pushed the corpse off the captain’s seat and sat down in it, starting to work on the keyboard. After a few seconds a voice came through her communicator saying “I’m in, please evacuate now.”
“On my way,” she said while walking towards the pilot’s escape pod.
She hopped into the escape pod and manually ejected it after strapping herself in. She was launched away from the ship and was picked up by a smaller vessel. She watched the flagship blowing itself up as her pod was pulled inside her ally’s cargo.
After the cargo was sealed and the air pressure equalised she opened the pod and stepped down into the hold, stretching after a good day’s work.
At that moment, a notification resounded through the hold, “Captain, you have received (1) new Emails.” The voice was very synthetic and held no emotions, it was the ship’s VI.
“Who’s the sender?” she inquired.
“Jack.” Replied the voice.
“Jack who?” she asked, raising an eyebrow at the VI’s lack of information.
“The sender’s surname is unknown.” Replied the VI.
The woman gasped as she realised who sent it. She giggled and whispered under her breath, “what is he doing this time?”
