Lyssia’ Perspective
“It seems that we can’t talk for longer” I grimace at the fascinating creature from another dimension. I was right about to get at the good part.
Slick. That was the sound of gloves taken off. Slack. That was the other glove.
“Ventilate the place” I told my assistant. “We wouldn’t want the hallways to be covered in the smell of pus.”
The air ducts opened and the sound of a vacuum was heard. The specimen was already dead, but it was a new mutation from the average Xylian that we observed. An average Xylian was as large as an average mountain, when they move the landscape changes and earthquakes form. When they enter the sea tsunamis are formed and everything in their path dies from their merciless march.
An average Xylian carries with them an environment which would be where most of the dimensions’ residents slept, played and lived lives. The surface of the planet was covered in a very heavy gas called Dioxyphlorious Gas, and to us, it was practically corrosive poison. But to Xylians it was akin to fish in water. Centuries of civilization built on the back of giants, it was fascinating to learn about, it was like there were two worlds that existed.
On the surface there existed a world that thrived in the poison, and above on the back of Xylians stood another world that could stand without. What came into my lab was a fat slab of Xylian flesh, almost enough to cover my entire laboratory wall.
Typically speaking, Xylians eat anything, and everything else they can’t eat becomes part of their shell. There are Xylians with Forests on their back, with Volcanoes on their back, even ones with coral reefs appearing on their back before. What was in my lab was a Xylian that had slabs of metal inside their flesh. The residents of the Xylian took out the chunk of flesh, sent it here to understand why the metal appeared inside its flesh instead on top of the shell.
Oops~ Sorry, I went off on another rant. Well, you can’t blame me for being too passionate.
“Bring me a gateway to Nova’s place”
“Yes Ma’am”
Walking down the white stripped alleyways of the laboratory gave me a glimpse of the work that the other researchers were up to, ahhh I love this place.
“Mrs. Lyssia, The coordinates are ready.” AI looked behind me, a young lady in a white coat with rose petals designs flourishing the bottom hems of her skirt, with a pair of black glasses, a tiny black bracelet that hung on her wrist, azure earrings and black strands of hair that was tied up in a pony-tail.
“Ah yes, alright, let’s go Fleur. We can’t keep Grandmaster Nova waiting.”
Tap. Tap. Tap. A golden door opened in front of us. It looked like a golden door with light trappe between. It kind of looked like light trapped underneath a golden tht was crystalized and trapped in time.
Royal Road is the home of this novel. Visit there to read the original and support the author.
I walked through, and found myself in a very hot and steamy place. Large doors, wide enough to look like they were built for a giant made out of dark charcoal and burnt rocks stood before me. Ahh, Nova’s office.
The Golden door behind me closed and I stepped to the front of the gigantic doors, and gave three resounding knocks. They seemed to be silent though, against this invariably tough material I felt like a mouse knocking on wood.
“Come in” Nova’s deep voice bellowed through his office and leaked into the halls. The doors squeaked open to let me squeeze through.
“Ahhh, Nova the Grandmaster of the Field Division. It’s great to meet you.”
“It’s great to meet you too Lyssia, Head Researcher of Foreign Dimensions.”
“So I heard you need my help”
“Indeed. Afereo bring out the samples”
“Yes, Grandmaster' In one of the corridors of his volcanic office stood a young mid 20’s kid, fluffy singed hair, had the face to be in a boy band, and wore a cute pair of glasses which really fit the entire secretary look.
Tch. How come Nova gets all the cute secretary boys. He left and came back with a tool I presume to be a weapon. It looked like a two pronged halberg. The longer tip stretched out, and there was a shorter tip, the handle was long and silvery with two handles. Afereo was struggling to carry it to the office, it seemed to be extremely heavy.
I observed it, it seemed, I don’t know? Common? I was kind of disappointed. I wanted to see a new kind of technology.
“Isn’t this a bit too common Nova?”
“I thought so too” He admitted, in his rigorous tone, “Until Afereo showed me what it could do”
Nova took his hand and gestured to Afereo to go. “Show her what it can do Afereo” He continued.
“Yes Grandmaster”
A twist was heard, and the halberg in Afereo’s hand ceased to be Hlaberg. It transformed, and sheets of metal grew out, forming a cylinder shaped shape. The tip of the halberg transferred revealing a blue crystal which made me almost feel fear.
Fear and excitement, what was this technology? The halberg transformed into a cylinder cannon with two handles which Afereo basically sat on the ground from the weight. “Mrs. Lyssia, we could only produce an ounce of what was theoretically possible, but this is an example of the weapon in use”
A low burning sound was heard, and a resounding hum echoed in the hall. It felt like a large beast was starting up, and then without notice, the silent cannon shot out a blue beam of heat. Heat so hot that it made Nova’s office feel like a frozen wasteland. The blue beam of extreme heat shot right into the wall of Nova’s office leaving a clean hole.
It felt like the wall never existed in the first place, like there was no destruction, that hole held no rough edges.
“T-that’s impressive, but is there a reason why you thought this wasn’t created in one of our many dimensions?”
“End the stimulation Afereo”
“Yes Grandmaster”
The hole in the wall was refurbished, giving it back the ashen balck volcanic colour that Novas o loved. The Cannon transformed into a silvery halberg that Afereo was carrying around, the cannon was gone, and there was no blue crystal.
“So that was a stimulation of the weapon”
“Yes, we still haven’t figured out the technical side of creating it into real life”
“Is that why you need my help?”
“No, not particularly. When Afereo first brought the product to me, I was unamused. I thought it was a child’s fiction about books they read in their freetime. What shocked me was the blueprints though. Afereo bring me the blueprints.”
Afereo brought a single large parchment of paper, which were the blueprints of the Halberg, and the cannon as well.
“Afereo, we need to discuss this privately”
“Yes Grandmaster, please call me when you need my help”
“Thank you Afereo”
Afereo promptly walked out of the door leaving no space between the huge doors.
“I’m sure you can see what I’m seeing.” Nova hinted, pointing at the blue crystal.
I stared, and read the blueprints, the gears turning in my mind assuming the theoretical applications...if we assume that the crystals have said properties…theoretically if we.converted mass into energy with this equation..then we...we...
Oh. my. God. This was a planet killer. I felt shivers, running down my spine, goosebumps that appeared all over my skin, if this works in theory, the only thing stopping it’s line of destruction is the density of the energy source. It was a weapon that didn’t have an upper limit, with enough energy it could theoretically slice planets apart, hell even galaxies apart.
