Unlike yesterday, I woke up roughly on time. A dash bit late but Gisela didn’t need to wake me up. I felt more energized, even if the sunlight beamed onto Gisela’s classroom seat instead of mine. Gisela munched on four chocolate donuts and a coffee she ordered earlier. She gave away her gum to the others but not her chocolate donuts. She then grabbed a croissant from the white bag with a green circle and devoured it in seconds.

“Sorry for my late arrival. As explained on Monday, we will take a short quiz. You may know what a wafnung is, but for those who aren’t in the know—a wafnung is a metallic weapon that conducts spannung in an efficient way. Any soldier uses a wafnung to aid them in combat. I will instruct you on how to write your signature on the wafnung. After that signature is written, you can summon your weapon from anywhere. As long as it isn’t destroyed. It is commonly recommended to keep your wafnung in your room, possibly a place where you don’t go too often.”

As the same teacher from yesterday explained, a realization dawned upon me. I had no idea who this teacher was. Specifically, his name. I probably forgot since I didn’t write his name in my diary. I leaned backward and whispered “Do you know what the teacher’s name is?” to Ortwin. Ortwin replied “His name… Oh it’s—“ but was cut off by Ryan. “This shit just pissed me off… The new season of that one show was delayed. What was the name? Shit…” Freya was greatly annoyed by this and said “I know RIGHT! Ughhhh I'm so tired of this shit happening to shows I like… You heard that Carl got into a fight yesterday? That dude is so stupid…”

“Shut up.” I whispered. “Huh?” Ryan and Freya replied at the same time. “I said shut up… You’re delaying class.” Everyone went silent as the two of them plus some other students got out of their chairs. “I know that weird crazy girl isn’t talking. Who the fuck do you think you are?” Ryan said as he looked down at me. He leaned in and said “Say that again.” Of course I stated “You’re annoying.” Ryan laughed and Freya appeared behind me. The teacher sighed and said “Okay Ryan and Freya, that’s enough. Back to your seats.“

He faked a punch that was nowhere near my face then walked back to his desk. Freya whispered “I will beat you up if you say something like that again.” then walked back to her desk. I was greatly disappointed when she walked to her desk instead of assaulting me. A floating yellow robot passed out papers. It had no face but I imagined that it used its invisible ears to sense the classroom environment around itself. The papier floated down onto my desk from above. The paper also was the standard monotone.

Question 1: *In a battle against a powerful opponent, what range do you prefer to fight at? Close, medium, long.*

So indecisive! I could have fought with a cool plasma sword. I could have also fought with a cool plasma sniper rifle thing. But I was always too hyperactive (mentally) to slowly do anything. Then again, close range would imply that I would get beaten up more frequently. I filled in medium since it was a decent compromise.

Question 2: *What is your worst fear in a battle? Not being able to flee, an opponent attacking you from a distance you cannot attack from, being humiliated and embarrassed, losing a team member.*

I honestly had zero idea what being humiliated would have looked like for me. Maybe it would be peeing myself but that would have definitely happened eventually. Second reply was dumb because you could just flee at that point. Can’t attack? Why not just—RUN AWAY? Losing a team member was too vague because some people were blatantly annoying and objectively horrible. With that, everything pointed to the first option so I chose that.

Question 3: *What spannung parameter do you personally value the most? The one where you would like to be a master at? Health, Physical (strength), Magical (non-strength damage), Endurance (physical defense), Resistance (magical defense), speed, stamina.

If I was a super bunny, I would definitely be the international... Anyway, the idea of running around at the speed of sound TIMES the speed of a turtle sounded super fun. Especially since I walked faster in the hallways than most people. Though magic seemed quirky and stamina always seemed overrated to me.

Question 4: *Choose which statement best describes your personality. Outgoing, passionate, and reckless; Reserved, competent, and callous; Caring, artistic, and moody; Creative, spontaneous, and undisciplined.*

Undisciplined and stupid should have also been an option. Outgoing and passionate was what I wished I was. I always wondered how being happy in yourself would feel. At the very least, I definitely was not remotely caring. Last time I babysat a baby, I ate all of their food because I accidentally burned pizza for the 2nd time that day. Thankfully, I got to drink the baby’s milk which was apparently their mother’s breast milk.

*Congratulations Hanna Santana. According to our test, your preferred weapon of choice is… A gun! You are a speedy and creative individual who uses their dashing speed to overwhelm opponents. You are likely to have weak strength, endurance, and stamina; but extremely high speed and magic. Word of advice; try not to receive too many hits in combat or battle for too long as both can prove fatal.*

If you come across this story on Amazon, it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.

*While it is not optional, choose what colors you would like your gun to have.*

Black, pink, and white. It seemed cool enough. That last part sounded about accurate as well. My arm broke a few years ago when I ran too quickly outside and fell down with a screeching thud. After what felt like five more minutes, blue text materialized onto the paper and stated “Yes” and “No”.

The teacher announced “If you are satisfied with your outcome, you may click “Yes”. Your wafnung should arrive in 10-15 minutes in the gymnasium. That is important since in a day from tomorrow, you will go on your first spirit portal assignment. If everything goes well, the other spirit portal assignments will occur elsewhere than on this campus. Possibly out of state. Be prepared to travel to different regions as a part of your job as a soldier. Now, we will go to the gymnasium and meditate. Perhaps you will be able to demonstrate your spannung function today.”

----------------------------------------

“Now that you have all meditated for 15 minutes. You should be able to cast forth a demonstration of your spannung; specifically function. Think of a function as your speciality. The thing which makes you stand out from the crowd. Just to summarize, you have four kinds of functions: Force, which relates to the physical. Mystic, which relates to the magical. Summoning, which utilizes spawns and is overall balanced. And special, which utilizes supportive capabilities like healing,”

He paused.

“I suggest for you to not overthink but try to put your all into it. One at a time, a student will come forth and try their might. Name is also required and an optional introduction. Chances are, you will see most of your peers for the rest of the year.”

Abruptly, Gisela was in front of the room, silver wand glittered like a dwarf star in between her hand. A lot of people beamed up and screeched “Gisela!” She had put her hands on her hips and said “Hello class of 2158. My name is Gisela and I love Azure Spritz! Well I loved it until THEY CANCELED IT! How could you cancel an aesthetic show in the middle of a robot zombie apocalypse? I just hope Assora doesn’t die whenever that show comes back on… Anyway, how’s winter treating you all? Don’t know about you, but I genuinely FORGOT to bring a coat here so I nearly froze to death earlier. Slight exaggeration! I know I talk a lot so I’ll try to showcase my skills!”

Gisela put her green palms together as she held her wand and closed her eyes. A tiny green bird hologram that looked like it was about to melt appeared from the tip of her wand. Everyone clapped and cheered on Gisela’s summon. What should be noted is that I only wrote about two people’s entry things. The entire class went though.

Ortwin went up and put on metallic gloves. We exchanged eye contact for a few seconds. He closed his eyes and punched the air. My hair blew back a bit and the air seemed a bit blue.

I went up and grabbed my gun. Well, I had to unwrap it first from its brown cardboard box. Once its black and pink grip was held firmly, I closed my eyes since everyone else did that. Today would be the day where I finally become powerful and happy. I could already imagine it *That Hanna girl is so talented! I wanna be her friend!* or something like that. Once I made that friend, we would go on fun trips like to the amusement park or movie theater. I would have a whole bunch of popcorn and soda and pizza and candy and cotton candy and ice cream AND some more! We would share of course and have the best time of our lives. But maybe that doesn’t specifically happen and we do something equally as fun!

Concentrated furiously but nothing happened. One by one, potential moments in the future crashed into the ground, bursting in hideous and wet flames as they fell down like broken parts of a comet. People laughed at me. I meant, like BURSTED in wheezing hysterics at my pathetic performance. I was the only student in a class of 20+ people to not be able to perform anything. The teacher had to stop me after that realization dawned on me.

I overheard “Holy shit! That girl is so bad at this. Even my 10 year old brother could do something…” Gisela said “It’s not her fault that she’s so dum—I mean… ermmm… Special? Some people are just… Not very adept at these kinds of things.” A girl in response said “Gisela! You are such a kind person for dealing with that girl. Just watch out, okay? People like that girl tend to be… hard to get rid of when you act nice to them…” Gisela replied “Thank you for your concern, Janna. But I’ll be fine! We should talk more in the library later. Probably in the middle of lunch?”

Something obvious to a toddler had occurred. Although I was too obtuse to critically think. Specifically as to why Gisela was a friend of mine, yet said things like this. A pursuit would be required into the library.

----------------------------------------

Gisela and some other students arrived at the library. It was a wide room with at least 300 books and several granite tables. It smelt waxy but the smooth, white stucco floor was cold and dry. I had gotten the idea to eavesdrop on them, from under a table and behind another section of a table and seat. Helped that I had gotten there at least 5 minutes before they did. I supposed I could miss my second half of lunch for this.

One guy whom I couldn’t see said “So… Why do you hang around that pink-hair girl? The weird one?” Gisela laughed and said “Oh her? You know when you feel sad and worthless every now and then? Like you go “I am so BAD at math! Everyone else is better than me!”? She’s like that,” Gisela paused and started back. “She is without a doubt the most… odd and honestly weak person I have ever seen. I literally have no idea how a person like that can even exist?”

I wanted to emerge from under the hollow darkness. Yet, I did nothing. Nothing of much importance; oblivion to myself.

“I share a room with her because she barely wakes up on time and is very messy. She’s the polar opposite of aesthetic… No amount of motivational videos gives me as much motivation to wake up and start a productive day than observing her. It’s like… I can’t put my finger on what it is but she’s so weird that she’s more of a… social failure than anything. Makes me wonder how her parents interact with her?”

A boisterous girl said “I honestly wanna beat her up. Just see what type of reaction she’ll make.” Gisela replied “No idea how that one would turn out. I just get the feeling that she’s a better fighter than student. More importantly, beating her up for no actual reason is taking this way too far…” A boy hissed “There you go again with that shit. Just beat the fuck out of that freak if she’s so pathetic. You’ve always been soft and that’s exactly why we didn’t invite you yesterday. Damn, might as well hang with that weirdo girl because I can’t be spotted anywhere near that freak. I don’t even want to go in your room because of her.” Two people replied something like “We agree” and Gisela was silent.

I felt no tears or agony like a living being does. I felt no sadness or joy like a breathing organism does. I felt nothing of much importance. However, Gisela was wrong about one thing. A social failure implies that I tried. A social reject is someone who deserves their fate. A social outcast is someone who willingly isolated themself.

I was none of the above. I was a social and psychological abomination, freakishly unnatural with a tendency to go further down the drain. Something of little importance nor value to anything, anywhere. A mere thing to be marveled at and laughed at.

I taught myself that. Mother merely reinforced that scientific fact.
