CH44 Borrow the Artifact

Although he was spared from confronting Viscount Bernard, who was close to attaining extraordinary status, Morgen was not content to leave empty-handed. He had prepared meticulously for this day, and he was determined to reap some benefits.

At that moment, a more violent explosion erupted from the city center.

The terrifying momentum was like a demonic presence manifesting in the city, accompanied by heart-stopping fluctuations – the breath of the divine.

Morgen's eyes narrowed as he turned his head abruptly.

Though he didn't know the details of the battle in the city center, he could tell that it was undoubtedly far more intense than the one at the Scarlet Mage Tower.

In the secret chamber of the City Lord's Manor, Viscount Bernard blasted open a central cabinet with magic, revealing a gray magic scroll crafted from unknown materials. It was half-edged, with a width of two palms, and a broad smile spread across his face.

"What a potent aura of evil. No wonder the extraordinary being didn't carry it with him. This is a power that only our abyss can control.

Roy, come forth, the twelve magic scrolls are within our grasp..."

If Morgen were present, he would have been astounded by Viscount Bernard's words. It turned out that the ultimate goal of the Dark Covenant's leader was the legendary artifact forged by the Creator himself – the Twelve Magic Scrolls.

Legend has it that the Twelve Magic Scrolls are divided into twelve parts, each containing immense and mysterious energy.

Most importantly, the Twelve Magic Scrolls could grant the caster unimaginable power.

Hence, the Twelve Magic Scrolls had always been regarded as the supreme artifact among mages, but this artifact had never been obtained, leading most casters to believe it was merely an ancient myth or legend.

The figure of the eight-armed snake demon Roy emerged within the secret chamber, his long and narrow turquoise eyes peering deeply at Viscount Bernard.

His gaze remained cold and ruthless, and an aura of chill permeated his entire being.

"Viscount Bernard, remember our agreement."

Viscount Bernard smiled and replied, "I received news about the young dragon last year. I swear on my soul that I did not deceive you."

Roy nodded in satisfaction, his eight arms wielding eight long swords, and his enormous snake tail, adorned with light gray patterns, slithered on the ground, exuding a sense of toughness, strength, and sheer horror.

"A pleasure doing business with you."

The two exchanged knowing glances, yet their eyes held hidden meanings that remained unspoken.

This was a collaboration between abyssal demons.

"Viscount Bernard, the City Lord's Manor's forces are approaching. We must retreat."

At that moment, a hurried figure emerged from the secret chamber, and Viscount Bernard nodded upon hearing the report.

He exited the secret chamber alongside Roy.

Now that he had obtained what he desired, there was no need to linger. He didn't even spare a glance at the treasures and artifacts within the secret chamber.

He quickly followed his subordinates to the manor's courtyard. As Viscount Bernard prepared to retreat with the Dark Covenant, a sudden fluctuation in space occurred.

Like shattered glass, the space collapsed after a violent tremor.

The furious figure of a short, elderly man in a white mage's robe materialized before Viscount Bernard, roughly thirty blades away.

Arcane energy surged疯狂around the old man, and a magic tide erupted within seconds.

The newcomer was Rock Hart, Green City's sole extraordinary mage, who had ventured into the abyss before Sunday.

"Lord Rock."

The surrounding guards, clad in full-body armor forged by dwarves, rushed forward, their faces beaming with joy. At the sight of Rock, they believed victory was assured, for no one would doubt the might of an extraordinary being.

"How is this possible? Didn't Lord Barrow prevent your return?" Viscount Bernard's eyes flickered with fear and bewilderment upon seeing Rock, the extraordinary man.

He had arranged for an extraordinary abyssal demon to intercept Rock in the abyss. Even if the demon failed to eliminate Rock, it should have prevented Rock's swift escape from the abyss.

Rock sneered upon hearing this, a hint of disdain etching his wrinkled face. With a wave of his hand, the space before him fractured.

Then, to everyone's astonishment, an enormous head, half the height of a man, tumbled out of the shattered space.

Massive horns protruded from the skull, and an aura of pure evil emanated from its entire being. Even in death, its appearance sent shivers down the spines of the ordinary guards present.

A drop of scalding blood dripped from the creature's neck onto the ground, instantly corroding the bluestone into large and small pits. The scene was both grotesque and horrifying.

A demon from the abyss.

"Is this weak demon your ally?"

Viscount Bernard's eyes narrowed sharply at the sight, and he instinctively took a step back.

Rock's appearance filled him with a mixture of shock and fear.

He was simply too powerful, perhaps even approaching the realm of legends.

He estimated that the other party was close to attaining legendary status.

Even an extraordinary-level fire demon couldn't withstand a Sunday in his presence. He was just that powerful.

"Hand over the Twelve Magic Scrolls. The abyssal demon is not something you should meddle with."

Despite Rock's calm demeanor, his presence exerted immense pressure on Viscount Bernard and the eight-armed snake demon, Roy, in the face of the extraordinary-level demon's severed head.

No one dared to ignore the will of an extraordinary being unless they wished to face immediate death.

Viscount Bernard's expression fluctuated, and his previous composure vanished, replaced by an air of tension.

He gritted his teeth and abruptly produced a pulsating magic scroll from his robes, tearing it open without hesitation.

An indescribable aura of horror filled the air.

It was cruel, cold, and at the same time – incomparably powerful.

Divine.

Rock's eyes widened in recognition, and his hands instinctively conjured two four-ring spells. However, halfway through his incantations, the abundant magic in the air dissipated as if it had been drained.

The spells that the extraordinary mage had just conjured were forcibly dispelled.

"Forbidden Demon Field?"

Rock's eyes contracted, and a wave of anger washed over him.

Damn it, this abyssal devil had come prepared, directly borrowing the power of the gods to create the Forbidden Demon Field.

Viscount Bernard finally smiled upon witnessing this scene, his blue eyes fixated on Rock.

"Lord Rock, I hope to see you again, and perhaps we can truly fight." After uttering these words, he waved the gray-white artifact in his hand. At that moment, the legendary Twelve Magic Scrolls emanated an extremely chaotic and evil aura, captivating all eyes.

Then, before the astonished gazes of the onlookers, Viscount Bernard retrieved another magic scroll and tore it open.

A teleportation array instantly appeared beneath the feet of the duo, also imbued with the power of the gods.

"I've borrowed the artifact." With that, the transmission scroll took effect, and Viscount Bernard and Roy vanished from sight.

Rock's wrinkled face turned livid as he witnessed this scene.

Rage consumed his being.

A mere abyssal devil who had yet to attain extraordinary status dared to play tricks on him like this!! That damned bastard!!

With a sweep of his hand, surging magical energy erupted, shattering the Forbidden Demon Field created by the power of the gods.

The Forbidden Demon Field, powered by divine energy, only lasted a mere ten seconds in the presence of an extraordinary being. If Viscount Bernard had delayed even a moment longer, he would have faced the wrath of this extraordinary existence.

Rock did not relent even after Viscount Bernard's departure. After a brief moment of contemplation, he waved his hand, causing the space before him to fracture, and he stepped through it.

"The spatial gate outside the city has been sealed by me. Send an army to eliminate the remaining demons within the city," he instructed, turning to face Viscount Bernard's subordinates. "And don't let those vile underground forces escape.

Don't come to me. No matter where that damned devil flees, I will reclaim what belongs to Rock."

As his voice faded, the spatial rift healed, and the once lively scene was reduced to an empty void.

When the crowd outside the venue witnessed this spectacle and exchanged bewildered glances, they realized that Viscount Bernard's raid, from the shattering of the magic shield to Rock's return and subsequent disappearance alongside the trio, had all transpired within a matter of minutes.

Most people were still attempting to process the events that had just unfolded.

However, upon noticing the scattering and fleeing members of the Dark Covenant, they quickly regained their senses and commenced the task of purging the nefarious underground forces, as per Rock's instructions.

When Viscount Bernard employed the divine power to imprison Rock, the extraordinary individual, the undead mage, who had been engaged in combat near the Scarlet Mage Tower, also dismissed his bone dragon after the final clash with the group of five underground individuals and vanished through a spatial gate.

He realized that thousands of griffins and Pegas appeared in the distant sky, and any further delay, even with his level beta plus bone dragon, would have resulted in certain death.

"Quack, despicable humans, the great dead bone is beyond your comprehension. Today, I shall temporarily spare your lives.

But know this, when we meet again, I'll send you to your grave."

A hint of mockery gleamed in his dark blue eyes beneath his black skull as he vanished through the spatial gate.

The five senior professionals on the ground lacked proficiency in spatial magic, and the sole caster, a priest, was unfamiliar with space-related spells.

They exchanged glances, shrugged, and reluctantly abandoned their pursuit.

That damned undead mage!

With that, the unexpected assault on Green City came to an end.

Many civilians were perplexed by the events that had transpired. They had no idea what had occurred. Only a handful of senior professionals had a vague understanding of the truth, but none dared to speak of it.

For not everyone could withstand the wrath of Lord Rock.

Morgen's eyes narrowed slightly as the dead bone entered the space.

He fixed his gaze in the direction of the dead bone's departure, his eyes sharp and piercing.

"Emmy, locate his space and catch up."

He was determined to capture this prey.
