Chapter 29 Free and clear?
The food we got was quite nice, it consisted of a sort of soft flatbread that jam was spread over along with butter two or three eggs, a good portion of sausage and much to my delight a nice tall glass of milk. I sighed as I leaned back and allowed the milk to settle in my stomach, there was something, just well, almost addictive. As I sat back against my seat I leaned my head on Seri’s shoulder, which caused the guard captain to twitch a little. He looked down at his plate and then back up at the two of us, male curiosity clearly there in his eyes, though it would seem as though his sense of propriety and honor prevented him from asking the question he wanted to ask.
Two women being together was not really something new from what I had gathered, some women liked both men and women, some preferred men and others preferred just women. I was obviously of the latter. There were however two things that made the pair of us a sort of novelty almost, however, the first being that the women that engaged in such relationships were almost always nobility. The vast majority of the women working for a living didn't have the inclination, or perhaps the freedom to do so, they needed to get husbands to help with domestic chores and to do the work that was either more difficult for a woman or societally inappropriate for a woman to do. As such the amount of women who had both the freedom to be above such normal scrutiny of the population as well as the monetary backing that could support not having a husband were rather small as it were, and as a result almost exclusively nobles. The second thing that set us apart, from even those women, or rather what set Sarena apart was the fact that her chosen mate was not even human, or elven, or hell even dwarvish.
Instead, she had me, and while most people were smart enough to realize that I was at the very least somewhat civilized I was still what many would call a beast race. There were those sexual deviants that preferred the beast race, most of whom were once again nobility, and it was not like my race couldn't actually mate with human beings, after all, there had been one kit born to a nearby tribe that had a traveling trader for a father. The poor thing was neither here nor there when you took in its features. She had been born with the paws of a Khatan, fur reaching up to her elbow and mid-thigh, but past that was the smooth skin of a human. Every part of her was human, besides the Khatan legs past the mid thighs, the forepaws past the elbows, a set of Khatan ears on top of her head and a tail.
I remember seeing her at several tribe’s meets, she had always been the outcast, and both I and my sister had gone over to play with her a number of times. She was the only Khatan that needed to wear clothing, seeing as humans don't have fur and the often snowy climate of the Pontiff valleys was much to fridged for the smooth skin of a human. When she had been around the age of eight or so she and her mother had taken up traveling with the father, and after that, I had only seen her once or twice a year, but she had seemed happier than before, so all is well that ends well I suppose.
Apparently, if she were to breed with a human then most of the Khatan features would vanish from her litter, and all that would be left would be the tail and ears, which I had been informed was called a Demi-human. I glanced over at Seris, wondering if there was any way we could eventually have a litter. There were a few obvious difficulties, seeing as we were both women, but there was magic, and after all, magic was a complete unknown to me, I would have to bring the topic up with her later when we were not being scrutinized by a guard captain and being threatened with imprisonment...
So, in other words, Sarena looked like some strange sexual deviant, and I looked like some noble bitch’s pet. I didn't let it bother me, I just continued leaning there against Sarena’s shoulder and I purred softly when her hand came up behind my head and started scratching me behind the ears absently.
“Sooo...” I cracked one eye open and looked at the man sitting in front of us. My impression of him so far was not to bad, he was after all just doing his job, and he was still treating us with courtesy and a modicum of respect. “The two of you are-” he trailed off, and my evaluation of him dipped slightly, but only slightly, after all, we were something of a novelty.

“Yes, not that it is any of your business or any other persons for that matter,” Sarena said, hmm, it would seem as though it annoyed her that we were the subject of such scrutiny. Perhaps her people had stronger cultural privacy customs than my own.
“Ha,” I chuckled to myself, as the thought entered my head, of course, they had stronger cultural privacy customs, after all, they walked around fully clothed. Both sets of eyes turned towards me, Sarena’s amethyst and the guard captain's brown eyes. “It is nothing, do not mind Rinmua, she was just thinking something funny,” I shrugged slightly, “Rude, but funny.” they both stared at me like they were expecting me to explain, which I didn't feel like doing so I simply stared back for an awkward amount of time.
“Normally when someone says things like that little kitten they explain it,” Sarena said softly, a little smile pulling at the corner of her lips.
“She thinks that such things only apply to normal people, Rinmua has discovered over the past several months however that she is not normal,” I say with another shrug. “She has also found that she does not want to be normal, Rinmua is Rinmua and wishes to be no one else.” the smile was full blown now, and Sarena grabbed me by the chin and twisted my head up so that she could place her lips on mine.
“And I would want nothing different my kitten,” she whispered planting a kiss there before rubbing her nose against my own. I purred as she released my chin and I began rubbing my head against the side of her neck, purring for all my worth.
“*Ahem*” The guard captain cleared his throat and I froze, slowly looking over at him.
“Yes?” I asked, feeling slightly annoyed at not even being able to properly bunt against my mate after all bunting was not just affectionately rubbing against her, it also left my scent on her skin, which would warn others off, and would allow me to track her more easily should we ever get separated. It occurred to me then that human beings and elves might not have the same scent as we do, they may not be able to smell and understand my scent on Sarena.
Oh well, I knew, and if I was being honest it felt good, really really good…
His eyes tracked down and I found myself looking down as well, and much to my surprise my forepaw had moved on its own, tracking up across the smooth dark skin of her stomach and onto her breast which it was still kneading, by the way, quickly I pulled my hands away, my ears laying back in embarrassment. I looked up and Sarena was biting her lip and when our eyes met hers were smoldering. She opened her mouth to say something but the door of the inn burst open and the two guards he had sent to check on the silver walked in with Aldria between them. Aldria walked over and practically slammed a thickly bound ledger down on the countertop and stared haughtily at the Capitan.
“I will have you know that I nither appreciate or much care for being so rudely awoken at so early an hour, nor do I like having my client’s so roughly treated,” as she spoke she slammed open the book and pointed at a particular spot, “this is the serial number used for the bank’s personal silver reserve,” she slammed the bag of silver down on the table. “These coins are legal tender, the codes are good and are not of a personal house’s account, meaning all of this silver was minted and made for the bank and then dispersed to the population, as you know most noble houses send their silver to be melted down and re-minted so that it is easier to track, so unless my clients have been stealing silver out of the purses of many many people, few of whom would walk around with silver mind you, then it was not stolen, or burglarized!” she let him look at the ledger for a second more before practically slamming it in his face.
“It checks out sir,” the female guard said with a shrug, “That's not the silver we are looking for.”
He looked at Aldria and then back towards us. “I see, well then while I still can't say this matter is closed I can say that I have thus far found no evidence of wrongdoing, meaning you are free to go about your business, albeit with Earla here keeping an eye on you for a while.” he stood up, shaking his head. “I apologize for the inconvenience and hope the rest of this goes smoothly for you,” he reached out and shook Sarena’s hand and my forepaw. “I’ll be in touch,” he said and went back upstairs to gather his guard.
“Well, that went better than I was expecting,” Aldria said with a slight smile, “I was worried I would have to show him serial number by serial number like I did those two,” she glanced back at the two guards still standing there. “Oh well, I’m all for easier,” she sighed as she slid into the booth across from us.
