Chapter 40 - Uncertainty

The next day they arrive with chairs. They sit after helping me sit on the bed.

Now that I feel better, I can inspect them. Anne is delicious. There’s really no other way I can describe her. She has a splendid figure, almost as tall as me. Her light-brown hair falls gracefully on her back, her blue eyes are worth more than the most expensive jewelry, her lips look so tasty I want to kiss her all day. But above all, her smile is the most precious thing I’ve ever seen.

Lara carries herself with elegance, but she doesn’t look at me from above. It’s strange, but it’s like she admires me. Her black hair is like obsidian, so shiny and straight it appears unnatural. The eyebrows too, it’s like black paint. Her lips are white. I don’t know how she does it, but it suits her. Her body pales compared to Anne, but all the women do, so it’s okay. Lara is sexy enough for me to want to have sex with her. Lara is the tallest of the three, maybe the tallest woman I’ve seen.

Both dressed in long dresses in soft colors.

“I think Anne should start. Tell her how you found her.”

“Those motherfuckers kidnapped my friend and her daughter. The townspeople are cowards and weaklings, so I went alone. After killing them and ending my friend’s daughter's suffering, I saw you. You were talking nonsense until I found your baby and placed her in your arms. Then I built something you could lie on and took you home.”

After a long silence, Lara stares at Anne in disgust before looking at me.

“This crazy girl came in the middle of the night and took me out of bed. She hurt my husband and forced me to stay here.”

I open my eyes wide and look at Anne, who just waves her hand.

“Details, details. What about you, Uzziye? How did you encounter them?”

What should I say? There’s no way I can tell them my story.

“It’s fine if you don’t want-”

“That’s unfair! You can see the past, so you already know, but what about me?!”

“It’s her decision.”

Anne stares at me, pushing for answers. I can’t handle the pressure.

“I’ll tell you later.”

“Okay.”

“Now it’s my turn to talk. Pay attention, and tell me if it’s too much information.”

I nod at Lara.

“Do you know how monsters are born?”

“Yeah. When there are strong and awful feelings, other creatures transform into monsters.”

“That’s partially correct. Our negative emotions float on the environment, and they can enter anyone’s body and become a part of him, or attract other similar emotions and form a conglomerate. This conglomerate goes searching for a way to perpetuate their existence, and when conditions are optimal, they can control and mutate other bodies. The monsters can spawn from corpses too. They need a powerful human mind to become alive.”

So when I killed Cara, everyone’s emotions gave birth to the monsters? Was Cara the powerful human who gave life to them?

“Any doubts?”

“No.”

“Good. That thing is the embodiment of everything wrong in the world.”

Lara points at Claire. I grab her and hug her. How can she say that?!

“I understand her role, so I won’t harm her.”

“I also won’t hurt her, unless she tries to hurt you.”

I sharpen my senses and prepare to fight. Lara and Anne laugh at me.

“If we wanted to harm you, we would have already done it.”

“We have been protecting you and your baby for a month, and we know how important you two are. Now relax and listen.”

A month?

“Have you been feeding her?”

“They created her with the ability to feed from your soul, but that only maintains her alive. The monsters changed your body to let you lactate sooner, but in your delicate state, I didn’t activate it.”

Wait, wait, wait. This is too confusing.

“Will you let me continue, or do you want this to last all day?”

“Hey, don’t talk to her like that!”

“I can always write everything and leave. Is that what you want?”

“No. But you can be nicer.”

“I’m not here to make her happy. I’m here to tell her what she needs to know. And I don’t have time to become her friend.”

Well, Lara is right. Why would she become the friend of a crazy woman that only thinks about having sex with Anne, the woman who kidnapped her? And her threat is serious. If I don’t pay attention, she’ll leave, and I won’t have the answers to my doubts.

“This is my house, so you’ll do as I say!”

“I know you fell in love with her, but you still don’t know her. This is the best way to handle her.”

Anne becomes red and stares at me. I blush too, ‘cause her intensity is too much for me.

“You already know I can defeat you, so please stay silent, or I’ll force you to leave.”

“Fine.”

Eh? Lara can defeat Anne? How?!

“As I was saying, your daughter is the embodiment of everything wrong in the world. The negative energy planned her creation, and the positive energy let it happen because it’s necessary.”

Lara makes a pause. I look at Claire and then nod at Lara for her to continue.

“Did you wonder why could all those terrible things happen to you when the security force has thousands of people capable of seeing the past and predicting disasters?”

“Not at all.”

“That’s because the powerful families of the kingdom are involved in this. I don’t know who exactly, but they created a fake story that everything was better than ever while slowly degenerating our values. They control the energy and can create fear, perversion, anger, and so on, and direct it to a zone where they want to attack. The people there are oblivious to it and take that energy into their brains and proliferate it with their thoughts and actions until monsters are born and kill everyone.”

“Wait. I don’t get it. Can’t they just create monsters with their thoughts and then send them to attack?”

Why torture innocent people to attack their enemies with monsters if they know how to create them?

“No, they can’t. They choose a path to their annihilation in their search for power. They no longer can create, that’s why they use us. Even though they have human bodies, they aren’t humans. Monsters can’t procreate, it’s the same for them.”

“If they can’t, how can Claire exist?”

“Because we humans created her. She isn’t a monster; she’s a human modified to have as much negative energy as possible.”
