Chapter 33 - Terms of the Contract

Chapter 33 - Terms of the Contract

Noah and Amdusias stood in front of each other.

“You better not try any tricks” Said Noah.

“What a lack of confidence, didn’t I already surround to you?” Said Amdusias with a smile.

“Let’s begin” Said Noah.

A huge circle appeared, rounded them, at one side was Noah, at the other side was Amdusias.

“I, in the name of “%$#%” Said Amdusias.

“The first step is to say your real name, the other part wont heard it so don’t worrry” Said Ai.

Noah nodded and proceeded with the Oath.

“I, in the name of Noah Afterlife!”

“”WE SWEAR BY THE OATH OF DANTE!””

The circle become a pillar of red light while both looked at each other from the other side.

“I pledge to reveal all I know about those who seek you, Unjustice,” Amdusias continued, her voice seemingly sincere. Yet, hidden within her words was a subtle twist that could lead Noah astray.

Noah didn’t find anything wrong with the words of Amdusias, he waited for a few seconds, analyzing every word she had said, at not finding anything strange, Noah sighed in relieve.

“I-”

“STOP!” Said Ai.

“What is it?”

“Is a trap”

“Although its looks like Amdusias is willing to help you she cleverly avoids committing to providing truthful or valuable information. Her pledge is a vague promise to share what she "knows," but it doesn't guarantee the accuracy, relevance, or completeness of the information. It opens the door for half-truths, misleading details, or even fabricated stories that may not be helpful at all” Said Ai.

“Damn, she is good” Though Noah.

Noah looked at Amdusias, his expression stern and unwavering.

"I cannot accept your terms," he began, his voice firm. "Your pledge lacks the clarity and assurance I need to ensure our safety. You speak of revealing what you 'know,' but that leaves too much room for manipulation and half-truths. I need a more explicit commitment to providing accurate and valuable information about those who seek me."

Amdusias raised an eyebrow, feigning innocence. "What more do you want, Noah? I've sworn to the Oath of Dante. Isn't that commitment enough?"

"No," Noah replied, his gaze unwavering. "I need you to explicitly vow that the information you provide will be truthful, relevant, and not designed to harm or mislead. Without that assurance, the oath is too ambiguous, and I won't put myself at risk."

Amdusias sighed, pretending to consider Noah's words. "Very well, Unjustice. I swear that the information I provide will be truthful, relevant, and not intended to harm or mislead."

Noah remained vigilant, sensing that Amdusias might still be concealing something. However, he decided to press further.

"And you swear this on your true name, Amdusias?"

Amdusias hesitated, a flicker of discomfort crossing her face. She nodded reluctantly, "I swear on my true name."

Noah, satisfied with the amended pledge, nodded in acceptance. The Oath of Dante resumed this time with a more carefully crafted commitment from Amdusias.

“Now it’s your turn, repeat after me” Said Ai.

"I, Noah Afterlife, pledge not to cause you immediate harm, Amdusias," he stated, his words deliberate. Amdusias eyed him with a mix of curiosity and caution.

"But," Noah continued, introducing the subtle twist, "I reserve the right to defend myself against any threat that may arise from our interactions. This includes the option to neutralize any danger you pose to me, even if it requires lethal force."

Amdusias frowned, sensing the cunning in Noah's words. "What kind of pledge is that? You're leaving yourself a loophole."

Noah met her gaze unflinchingly. "It's a pledge that ensures my survival. If you abide by the terms of our agreement and pose no threat, you have nothing to fear. But should the circumstances change, I won't be bound to passively endure harm."

Amdusias, though displeased, reluctantly nodded. "Fine, Unjustice. Your conditions are noted."

As the Oath of Dante solidified, both parties now bound by their pledges, Noah couldn't shake the feeling that the delicate balance between trust and caution was more precarious than ever.

A mark appeared both foreheads.

“Now, speak” Said Noah.

“Is this how you treat a lady?”

“Are you testing my patience?” Asked Noah.

“You are interesting indeed, well, I guess that trying to be seductive is a waste in a champion of Azazel, a shame indeed”

She extended her claws and turned around.

“Follow me, it’s better showing you rather than me telling you”

Noah looked at his wings, they were still repairing.

Amdusias also notice that her claws were trembling, in a split of a seconds, her claws also retreated.

“It seems that we are walking” Said Amdusias.

“Indeed” Said Noah with a sigh.
