Lone was speechless after finding his first truly fantasy like object, excluding the dungeon and the system windows, this one was something that opened up memories of childhood movies where a wizard put his entire home's interior in a hand bag or a nanny pulling out all manner of objects out of her own bag. The nostalgia of his memories woke a wonder in his current situation as a child himself.
It was odd feeling so giddy over something like this. Even if he was an adult, he felt he would react similar, but the way his body trembled with excitement was more than enough to tell him that he was affected by his current youth.
He took longer for him to calm down than he expected, but finally, after taking in deep breaths, he looked at the bag on the ground. It was open and looked scary as he couldn't see the bottom of it. It looked as if it was filled to the brim with just black. He went to pick it up and found it was heavy. It was so heavy in fact, that he couldn't drag it at all. Hesitant to put his hand in it, he first found a stick and put the end in it. It went all the way in just before his hand. He pulled it back out and examined it, finding nothing different.
'Now or never' he thought this, as he stuck his own hand into the pouch, feeling nothing, he pulled out his hand and again examined it. Nothing changed, so he put his hand inside again, looking for anything inside. This time, though, he immediately felt something inside and jumped in shock. He looked at the bag and saw nothing in the blackness. He then reached inside again, this time pulling out a bottle of wine...
The label on the bottle was something he could read and it said, "Mage's First Choice". On the side had directions: best for those at 25-40 levels. Effects diminishing 45 levels and above.
The bottle was filled with a dark red liquid that definitely looked like wine, so Lone put it off to the side and tried to pull out more objects that seemed to just float into his hand. Next was a potion labeled low grade, then three more of the same. The next item stretched the mouth of the bag to the limit, a small cauldron that might just be able to hold a Liter of liquid. Finally, after pulling out other miscellaneous objects, he reached in and felt nothing this time. He pulled on the pouch again, and he could at feel it was definitely lighter than it was before, but it was still pretty heavy. He closed the pouch next, then picked it up. Now, it was as light as it was when he first touched it.
'So that's how it works! It's as heavy as a chest when it's open, but closed, it's light as an empty bag.' He thought as he tested it opening and closing it a few more times.
He then started looking at his new items, feeling a little giddy again. "Yes!" Making a small fist.
'OK, let's see how much I can put into it.' He sighed jokingly after his thought.
He began with the heaviest items first, then awkward or cumbersome things, having the hardest time with the cauldron from before. After he was done, he found that everything was in there without problems. It really wasn't much, but with his size, it would have taken one or two trips to get it to the village.
It was a bust with the dungeon, but it was nothing if not lucky for all this to happen randomly. For everything that happened, he still had time before the sun even started getting orange but he still had to rush. 'and here I thought I was going to have to sleep outside.' Thinking how they would hold onto him until they planned on leaving.
They did talk at a distance a few times, just out of earshot. They discussed their ideas, and setting him free was what was easier than waiting for it to get dark, and they felt it would leave a bad taste in their mouths if he had to find his way back in the dark.
All in all, the entire encounter was six hours but felt a lot longer. After he got all his equipment in the bag, he started his trek his way back to the village, hoping his luck wouldn't run out.
Taking a little longer, he got back to the trench. Here, he was worried that he would be caught again. It was embarrassing how he got back and heard his sneaking ability was below his self-image, thinking maybe levels weren't a big deal only to find out he was outed before he realized it. Now he was back in the trench quietly, crawling back. The wall was right there, just a bit further, and he would have gotten all of this stuff back to a safe place. He was sweating now more than even when he ran into River and her group earlier, because if he got caught here, all of the things he gained today would be for nothing the nuns would punish, Aaron would lecture him before grounding him and his new items would be confiscated not to be seen again. The interrogating about the new equipment would go very bad, he wasn't planning giving up the adventurers based on how well he was treated, not to mention if they started looking for them his biggest secret the dungeon might get found too... 'Oh! I'm in...' Lone was thinking so hard that he had gotten back in the village before he even stopped thinking about the bad outcomes.
"Well, that was easy." He said quietly to himself, justifying to no one in particular.
River's POV:
She was treading along, humming to herself a little chipper for getting to see the boy jump at her [Wolf's Glare] skill that she rarely used.
"You're a mean one." Kyle chuckled. "The boys barely lived off milk, and you give him a scare like that. Did he wet himself? I mean, you almost had me jumping out of my skin, so the boy must have cried a little, right?" He asked, trying not to laugh at the image of the little smartass getting knocked down a peg.
"Yeah, he did jump a little..." River paused thinking. "Wait. He didn't react that much though. He turned and looked at me with surprise, but I didn't see him freak out like kids do. Hmm." River knew it was mean but it was a precaution so that any weaker monsters would get scared and run from the area and any stronger ones would look for her and leave the boy alone but his reaction was to turn and look at her. He didn't even panic like she expected. It's not unheard of kids under ten being immune psychological skills, but he clearly reacted to her skill. "But why didn't he just start running like any kid would or better yet crouch while holding his head?" She said to no one in particular.
Kyle raised his eyebrows. "What do you mean? He didn't run? Or cry?... Well, he's very brave or stupid, not much of a line between the two, if ya ask me... but I don't think he's stupid. So what's it mean if a child his age can withstand your skill? Not that i need to know it if it exposes something, just if it has anything for us to worry about later." He asked, trying not to delve into her personal abilities as doing so could be rude.
River not missing his way of asking nodded "He could have a high will power, maybe high mental stats all around but someone so young wouldn't have access to those yet, not unless he has an infected window. Even so, he didn't look like the evil god worshiper type ether. It's probably just an unwoken skill he has that seeped through the locked age requirements, like the mana sense he has. Wonder what it'll look like after he turns ten."
"Hey, I know you elves don't age much, but let him get to his twenty's first. My sister still says she's going to cut off all the pointy bits of the elf that dumped her back then." Glen jumped into the conversation, not understanding that he was the only one talking about such things.
River frowned, but on the inside, she did think about how the boy would grow. She was maybe about four centuries old, so finding humans around her age and with a youthful look like her was getting harder. Most humans died in their hundreds if there wasn't a war, and if they didn't level continuously in their youth, they would get wrinkly in their older ages. So looking at them in their adult-youth was one of the few options, if she was going to play around.
It was always a debate on how ethical it was to love with such an age difference. She fell on the side of "love doesn't have a reason" but understood that it wasn't always the case.
That being said, there was just so little to choose from when it came to her own people many were snooty who believe they are the betters of the humanoid races or others who were too busy learning the ways of the spirits or other sage like personality's, and those who were just followers of guardian faith. Rare were the adventurers who would find a journey out in the wild worth the time spent among the short lived. Evan of the ones that did, most were already paired with a lover they grew up with, sharing the same dream or history that couldn't compare. Like she was once...
Banishing the old scares from her mind, she thought about the interesting boy and his possible future look.
He had potential, but she just liked thinking of him as a sweet child rather than a possible love. It always ruined the sweet, innocent feelings she got looking at a child ignorant of such things. If she let her mind be pushed in that direction, it always fouled her mood. Ideas like these would disappear after a moment, but this boy stuck out for some reason.
'What would he look like as an adult? An adult... hmmm... he might become a little heartbreaker later, but I can't see more than that because his personality was just to grown up for his age. Beware village girls, he's going to be an adorable teenager.' Her thoughts stopped there as Kyle and Glen somehow got into it over how big boobs should be to affect combat and if height was a factor.
"No! I'm not saying that height isn't a factor, just that weight distribution wouldn't change much if she were only taller and not..." Glen was trying to make a point, but Kyle was making the same point just with different words. 'Is this even an argument?'
"I'm right here. Why are they not asking me. These dumb pigs..." River whispered to herself.
She then wondered how long it would take Glen to realize she had paid Lone with his money. She didn't use it all but at least a third of it was now in the hands of a 7-year-old boy who she wondered how he would spend it in a village that got a merchant every other month or so.
The thought tickled her as it was how the boy acted when she filled his hand with the coin, then to how she got him to blush just by acting normal in front of him. His face was cute when he tried to act like he was uninterested. Maybe they would stop by on their trip back. Seeing him a little older would be interesting...
"That's what I'm saying!" Kyle exclaimed
"No, that's what I'm saying!" Glen matching Kyle's volume.
'I could kill them, no one would know...' She pinched the bridge of her nose and sighed.
Lone's POV:
He had left everything in the hole in the wall inside the pouch. Nothing was going back with him to the storage church, just to be safe. It was getting dark, and he knew they would come looking for him soon. So to get them to think he was just sitting around all day he found a good area to lie down, and wait.
It didn't take long for him to see May coming down the street. Her walk kind of swayed from side to side more than usual. Probably because she was doing chores today and didn't have enough energy to focus on posture. Her swaying assets seem to be more mobile than before. 'No Bra?' he thought as it was one of the changes that was more noticeable as she walked.
"Girls! It's time to head in for dinner. It needs prep work to be done and the boys are already starting on cutting the meat." she said, spotting the trio walking passed. The girls complained but May wasn't in the mood so it ended quickly.
'Hmmm... I wonder if her height and the weight of her chest affect how fast she gets tired? Does magic and levels change it that much?' He thought waiting for May to tell him it was time to go home.
