Ch.10 Path to Adventure

Ch.10 Path to Adventure

Lone had been finished with his punishment for 2 weeks now, and he finally felt that the nuns were giving him space to roam free. He had spotted May peeking around a corner of a house or ally just staring at him not really hiding but making sure he knew she was around which prompted him to just continue his studies of the butcher cutting up a deer like creature with antlers angled down toward the front of its face rather than up like what it's old world counter part had. It also had claw-like hooves that reminded him of a velociraptor he saw in a movie once. This worked out for him as May didn't like gore too much and had a hard time cutting up meat for meals on more than one occasion.

The real problem was Ceilie. Her skill made it hard to track her, and he figured if he couldn't see May Ceilie was somewhere around watching him. Which was confirmed when a guard started talking to her as she was tailing him. She looked flustered when Lone caught site of her trying to hush the man hitting on her. Her attempt failed.

Ceilie getting caught was a major plus for him because he thought of a plan to lose or find out when she was watching him. He would from then on start walking passed all of Ceilie's admirers when he didn't see May. This got her stuck in conversation after conversation and in turn got him some alone time that he used for finding tools for his next trip outside side the gate.

Unfortunately he did not get any lucky break by finding a tool that could help, that is... until one day the grumpy Smith saw him watching the smith sharpen the guards training swords. Now he originally thought that sharp training swords were a dumb thing to have but apparently it was so they could level their slashing skills on solid wood dummies. This only worked to a point, but it gave the men something to do on their down time.

After a while he looked at Lone, sighed and went to a barrel in the corner of his shop. Picking out a short sword that was made of wood he tossed it toward Lone and said. "You'll be looking for something to swing I eck-spec, right? Well, have this an leave me be till you get biggun to swing a real sticker." He said in a flat tone "an don't tell your big Sisters I was the one to give ya dat." He turned and closed his door leaving Lone holding the wood blade like a precious heirloom. The Smith wasn't a nice man to anyone but he could be kind... sort of.

"Well this will do nicely." He said not caring about the other people walking around him. He quietly thanked the man through the window and left.

He put the sword in the bush that was hiding his secret exit. Making extra effort that he wasn't followed that day. Wood or not, it was going to help with the dungeon when he could sneak out again. It was his most ideal tool for the dive and it fit his needs to a tee. It was made of wood so it was a manageable weight, the wood was hard, and sharp somehow in a way that didn't make sense to Lone, but he understood that it was ether special wood, or some magic was used. Something he had figured when watching the Smith use skills. He didn't know if the carpenter helped with the wood but it wasn't strange to see those two collaborate on things all over the village.

The new thing about the smith and the carpenter was that the butcher started meeting them at the tavern at noon for lunch. It was big talk considering those three were the village backbone. When you needed something nine times out of ten it was from these three. The butcher was extra special cause he also tanned skins making leather for the Smith who in turn made armor for the hunters, guards and scouts. The three men had a good relationship going, and Lone admired them for it. It was simple with no nonsense thing.

Lone had walked all around the village to all the spots the guards Ceilie hated the most and some of them had good tracking senses to double check if she was around. He then walked to his favorite spot inside the village, the other old church and sat there on the stairs for what seemed like forever but he guessed was actually more like 20 mins. While waiting he looked into a birdbath near him to get a look at his newest haircut. It was now even and looked fine for his standards short on the sides and a good length of turf on top.

'It's better than getting the girls giggling from behind my back. Though some of them get quiet and start staring at me now, like I don't notice. Do I look weird?' He mused there for a while.

It was a different hairstyle from the rest of the boys, most had longer hair or some boys just went fully shaved. No one else had his cut this way and it did make him stand out but not too much.

Lone just shrugged it off, deciding it was time to make an attempt at getting outside, this time working on his exit in a more stealthy manner than last time. He had spotted something like a trench or rabbits trail when May carried him over her shoulder and it lead toward the trees in what looked like a wavy line, overgrown grass arching over hiding it mostly in cover.

He got to the wall looking over the area two or three times before walk nonchalantly over to the bush and ducking behind it he waited a moment to see if anyone was looking and nothing happened. He turned around grabbing his sword and peeling off his makeshift door before crawling through.

Finally outside again he quickly listened for the guards on watch they were talk but nothing he could understand from there. He walked along the wall to where he remembered the trench was seeing that he didn't have to think of a way to sneak in, it was close enough for him clime in. Once he was in the hardest part was crawling with the sword in his hands. Even being careful and slow it still got stuck in the long grass. After about ten minutes he was finally out of the small passage. Looking back at the village he made sure there were no alarms, not that he'd caught on before but this time he tried to see if there any signs. Nothing...

He got up after crouch walking deeper in the forest. Fortunately he recognized where he was in his mental map making it easy for him to get to the dungeon. It was all as he remembered it. After about a 20 min walk and taking it at a slow pace he ran into one of the deer with clawed hooves.

It didn't notice him as he ducked behind a tree but it did start sniffing the air. Then a rabbit eared squirrel ran out in front of the deer, the deer chased it down and began stomping and slashing at it. It continued even after it was long dead.

The deer with its claws began ripping at the carcass until it had revealed a green glow. It then bent down biting at the Mana stone and swallowing it in quick succession. But then it began sniffing the air, this time looking his direction, it was now slowly approaching him in a straight line.

Lone was trembling slightly as fear was making him shake a little making it hard to get his wooden sword ready to stab as hard as he could. He was under no illusion that he had a chance of killing the beast, it was 5x his size and it had levels. He didn't have any chance. At most he could try to scare it with a quick charge and make for a tree hopefully climbing fast and high enough to get out of its reach.

It was about a meter away from him when a flash of light hit it in the side. It was quiet, and still, but then everything seemed to slowly start moving again. A breeze swayed the leaves. The deer falling on its side with a "thump" rolling a little down the mountain side not to far from where it was standing moments ago. There was movement coming towards him, he couldn't hear it but he could almost see it. It was a shadow like presence and it was coming closer. It stopped just at where the deer was struck down. It seem to be looking at the deer and suddenly it was no longer a shadow but a cloaked figure. Muffled cursing came from the figure, Lone realized the man was wearing a mask of some kind, he was not able to see his face. The masked man in a dark green cloak, jumped down to the deer and began taking a knife from his belt cutting open the deer, pulling a shaft from it. Then more cursing followed as he inspected it and it snapped in half.

"Bad luck River!" A mans voice called out. "Sorry about the arrow but we got something to eat at least." He sounded cheerful

A second figure came into view in a gray cloak his hood down he revealing a blonde human with blue eyes much bulkier than the first. His armor was plate and clinked with every step. From this angle Lone could see two axes on his hip and a larger one in his hands. He was carrying a bag over one of his shoulder as well.

The first was walking up and now standing in front of his bush facing the man. After a moment he reached to his hood pulling it off and taking off the mask he said or she? "It's Glen's turn to butcher the food and yours to cook. I've done the hunting so I'm going to rest here. I take it that you don't have a problem." Her voice was filled with command the other man just nodded then looked back to a third person. This man appears from behind a tree. His hood was down too but was rather more decorated than the others. His bag was a satchel that had multiple symbols over it and held a walking stick in his hands. He had green hair and looked to be in the youngest, huffing trying to catch his breath.

"Can you brutes give me some time to breathe. It's not like we'll get there any faster if I die of exhaustion." Said the man Lone had noted as Glen "Besides we haven't figured out how to get into the dungeon yet anyway."

Lone remained as still as he could and listened. He found he just needed to stay quiet till the end of this debacle. Knowing full well this could last throughout the night, luckily it seems like the trio didn't notice him...

Lone had been sitting in the bush for 2 hours already and was about to go insane. He had been listening to their conversation the entire time and found out three major things, one these were adventurers on a job. Two that job was to investigate the Super Dungeon to the Southwest. Three their names were River Glen and Kyle. Both Glenn and Kyle were human, Kyle's job being an ax warrior type, Glenn was a fire mage type with multiple other responsibilities in the investigation. Finally River was an elf she was a ranger and the leader of the group.

They had set up camp right next to the bush he was hiding in and talk about the only thing two grown men could talk about with such different interests, women... even with their leader being there, which led to him finding out that she was actually playing both sides and had just as many complaints about women as the other two... Except her problems were multiplied because she was an elf, so she said. Her point being that she was always cast in the masculine part of the relationship because of her exotic elf allure.

None of what they talked about really interested him. They were avoiding the village post because the whole Kingdom of Alaildia had closed all borders over a year ago and that started here almost 8 years ago. Their plan was to play it safe and bypass the post altogether.

It was still hours till noon and these three seem like they were planning to leave at night. They just stopped talking 20mins ago and the 2 men just walked off in different directions saying they would be back. While the elf just lays next to the bush he was in. She had taken off the cloak to reveal leather armor, a belt stuffed with pouches, and long silver hair. He hadn't been able to see her face yet but by the way the other two would stop and look at her for a second she was definitely a beauty. From what he could see,she had long beautiful silver hair, an hour glass figure from what he could guess from her outline.

He was getting tired doing nothing and knew he couldn't sit here all day and then night just to wait for these three to leave but the options were decreasing the longer he spent there. Then he heard it, a rhythm of breathing that was synonymous with sleeping. Was this his chance? He had no other opportunities before now.

'Screw it!' He thought as he slowly started to crawl out of the bush. He was doing good, nothing rattled, or shook the branches. He could see a way out, not that it was safe by any means, but it was better than sitting hear waiting to get caught. He was almost all the way out when he heard something shifting. Slowly turning his head he found her facing him eyes closed.

'Good she's still-' his mind went quiet as he watch her eyes open right in front of him. First they both blinked... One second... two seconds... three seconds...

"Aaaaaaaaahhh" She screamed

"Guh-aah" He yelled
