XI CHEN BREAKS THE TESTING EQUIPMENT.
Xi Chen followed her to the front of the room, where the students from his class were lined up, waiting to be tested. When it was their turn, they would approach, scan their eyes on the retina scanner, and then be allowed into the room through a tinted door. Xi Chen noticed that there must be another exit on the opposite side because none of the people who went in came out again. Xin Yi was ahead of him in line, and each person's test took about 20 minutes to complete. With eleven people in front of him, Xi Chen decided to sit down on the ground, leaning against the wall. He closed his eyes, preparing to rest while he waited. After all, waiting for 3–4 hours called for some relaxation. Noticing what he was doing and realizing this was an option, others in line, including Xin Yi, found a place to sit and make themselves comfortable.
Xi Chen drifted off before he knew it. The next thing he knew, someone was gently shaking him awake. He looked up to see Xin Yi standing over him for the second time that day. "I'm going in now. You're next, so I thought it was time you woke up," she said before turning and heading towards the testing room. "Hey, Xin Yi!" Xi Chen called out to her. She paused in her tracks, waiting for him to continue.
"Thank you for waking me up, and good luck in there," he expressed his gratitude. He observed a faint smile appear on her lips before she turned away and continued walking. She paused briefly, muttered a thank you, and then proceeded into the testing room without waiting for his response. He was taken aback for a moment, and once he regained his composure, he stood up and stretched. Unaware of how long he had been asleep, he felt slightly refreshed and relieved. Unlike the nightmares that haunted him at night for the past month, he hadn't experienced any during the day. He chuckled to himself, thinking that his nightmares were rightfully named because they only occurred to him at night.
Finally, it was his turn. He approached the retina scanner to have his retina scanned, and then he was granted access to the room. As he stepped inside, he immediately noticed its vastness. The room was as spacious as a gymnasium, filled with various equipment and computers. Treadmills, weight machines, and punching machines were scattered throughout the space, along with other unfamiliar apparatuses he could not identify. Adjacent to these were smaller enclosed rooms, each labeled with their respective purposes. The doors in front of Xi Chen were labeled with various powers: fire, ice, light, telekinesis, and many more. These powers seemed incredibly magical to him as he observed them. As he browsed through the equipment, he noticed a peculiar-looking helmet hanging above each one. Suddenly, a stunning woman with red hair, dressed in a black tracksuit, approached him.
"Hello, student. I will be your tester today. Welcome," she greeted him. "Here, you will not only discover your powers but also determine the rating of your abilities. The ratings range from F to SSS. Individuals rated from C to F typically work in logistics, while those rated from A to SSS are usually sent for warrior training. Those with a B rating have the option to choose their path based on the usefulness of their powers. We will assess, categorize, and place you in the appropriate area. Is that clear?" she asked. Xi Chen nodded, feeling a bit terrified and hesitant to say anything more.
"Alright, let's begin with the stimulation," she continued. "The stimulator is used to activate the part of our brain that controls our gift." She explained as she picked up the helmet closest to the door, which was connected to a machine resembling computerized digital weight measuring scales that are found in hospitals, and set it on Xichen's head.
A part of Xichen's vision was obstructed by the goggles as the machine probed his brain. Xichen shut his eyes momentarily. After a considerable amount of time, the helmet was removed from his head. The lady, completely disregarding his presence, muttered to herself, finding the situation intriguing. "Let's begin with the weight machine," she informed him. Xichen walked over to the weight machine, leaned down, and lifted the barbell that was connected to a digital device on his shoulder. He raised it. Instructed to hold it in place, he complied as she approached the device that the barbell was attached to and pressed something on it. The barbell became slightly heavier as the number on the device, which indicated the weight of the barbell, increased until it couldn’t increase anymore, but he managed to handle it with ease even as it got heavier. Frowning, she stared at the machine for a while before asking him to set it down. He gently placed it back and stood there, but it still made a heavy thud sound, creating a crack on the floor as he dropped it. He began waiting for the next test. She studied him for a minute, then turned and headed towards the treadmill. Gesturing for him to get on it and run, she placed the helmet that was attached to it back on his head. As the speed increased, he began running in place. After some time, she stopped the treadmill and instructed him to step down and try the next machine. This pattern continued until he reached the punching machine, which was attached to a device with numbers too. She asked him to punch it with all his might, noting that the punching part with the sensor was made of metal, Xichen couldn't help but wonder what would happen to his hand if he were to punch it forcefully with all his might. No, he wasn't going to throw a hard punch. He decided to take it easy and only used about 70% of his actual strength; this would exert enough of his strength while still being careful not to cause any injuries to himself. However, to his surprise, when he removed his helmet, which he had had to wear for every test to stimulate his brain for that test, he discovered a hole the size of his fist in the metal. The machine's alarm was blaring, leaving both him and the tester completely shocked. Did he just break the testing machine? Yes, he did. What was he supposed to do now? It was an accident; he didn't intend for this to happen. Plus, he couldn't afford to pay for the damages. Maybe those black cards he received earlier could be of use. As he tried to think of what to say next, he turned to the tester, but she had already walked over to the phone to inform someone about the situation. She was instructed to continue with the test. Looking up at Xichen, she couldn't help but wonder what kind of monster had entered her room. She had never seen anyone like him before. Lost in her thoughts, she felt relieved that the physical part of the test was over, and now it was time for the mental aspect. Surely he couldn't excel in that as well, right? But later on, she was once again struck dumb as she stared at him as if he were some kind of monster. He had exceeded all expectations. He had performed exceptionally well in most of the mental assessments, surpassing even his physical abilities.

This was tested using a computer simulator with VR capabilities. In these simulations, situations where he is supposed to use a certain power are presented, and his ability or inability to use those powers to pass each level is recorded and taken into account. Fortunately, he had not been able to pass all the levels as he didn’t possess the abilities required to pass some of them; if he had, that would have been quite alarming. At least she was certain he didn't possess mind control or telepathy. However, he did exhibit telekinetic capabilities, although he lacked superspeed. Instead, he possessed enhanced learning, thinking, and comprehension skills. Additionally, he displayed immense physical strength and had mastery over most of the elemental powers, including light, fire, water, air, and earth, as well as the two rarest ones, ice and shadow. It was quite peculiar to encounter two individuals in a single day who possessed each of these rare elemental powers. The girl who had come in before him had controlled ice (which was rare) as well as light and water, while another boy almost vanished into the shadows (also rare) with his extraordinary command over them and also controlled water and metal. And now, this young man possessed both of these rarest powers; that would make it three individuals in a single day. Although he didn’t possess all the abilities, considering that most people only possessed one or two, or three at most, he was undoubtedly shaping out to be a true monster. Undoubtedly, it was an incredibly daunting aptitude. It was time for him to proceed to the testing rooms to assess his affinity level for each power. If she were to make an educated guess, she believed he would likely score at least an "S" or even a "Double SS" for most, if not all, of them. She had never witnessed anyone achieve such extraordinary results in the tests before. She was both intrigued and slightly apprehensive about observing this young boy demonstrate his powers. After all, those testing rooms were specifically designed to withstand only a certain amount of the forces of nature, elements, and abilities. If he were to go above that and surpass the threshold, wouldn’t he completely decimate their equipment? She picked up the phone to inform them about her projections and concerns. They assured her not to worry, promising to handle any issues that may arise. She approached him and informed him that their first stop was the light room. She requested that he only utilize 50 percent of his power for now, as she was still worried about the destruction he could cause. He assessed the appropriate amount and walked toward the wall where the sensor and helmet were. He put on the helmet with the goggles, placed his hands on the sensor where he needed to release his power, and gradually started to release a bit of his light energy. He at first stood there, not knowing what to do to release the so-called light energy, but like instinct, the light energy started flowing out of him; it was probably due to the stimulation of his brain being caused by the helmet. He released what appeared to be approximately 50 percent and stopped; the display screen began showing letters. However, it abruptly stopped at "SSS." She was taken aback and asked him if he was certain it was only 50 percent. He nodded in confirmation. She then instructed him to increase it to 70 percent. Once again, he nodded and continued injecting more power into the sensor. The display flickered for a moment and stayed still, but as he approached 70 percent, it suddenly changed to "XS." The tester was astonished, almost jumping out of her skin. She looked at him in disbelief. To prove his honesty, he decided not to stop at 70% but to demonstrate by emptying himself completely and injecting 100 percent of his light energy into the indicator. Before she could intervene and ask him to stop, suddenly the machine shook violently, emitting a smell of smoke, and the display went dark. The machine was now smoking. He was horrified, wondering what on earth had just happened. Had he destroyed another machine? How fragile were these machines that they were destroyed with the lightest touch? After regaining her composure, she guided him to the other chambers. He never exceeded 70% unless she explicitly requested it, thus avoiding any further mishaps. Fortunately, not all of his abilities tested into such extreme affinity, she mused. While he tested abnormally exceptional in terms of light and shadow manipulation (XS), physical strength (XS), and cognitive abilities (XS), he was only normally exceptional in most other areas, particularly with water (SSS), fire (SSS), and telekinesis (SSS), and was only slightly above average aptitude for ice and metal (A) and air (B). Surprisingly, he showcased remarkable proficiency in wood and plant (SS) manipulation, which he attributed to his father's fondness for botany rubbing off on him. However, he did not bother testing abilities such as telepathy, speed, or others that he lacked a natural affinity for.
Once he completed the tests, he was instructed to wait while his information and results were sent for evaluation by the higher authorities, as his performance surpassed her evaluative capabilities. After some time had passed, her phone rang. When she picked it up, it was the director on the line, instructing her to keep him there as he was en route to the location. Xichen was directed to find a comfortable place to sit and wait. The series of tests had mentally exhausted him once again, prompting him to close his eyes and rest for a moment. Before he knew it, a group of individuals, including Mr. Lin, the school director, and an unfamiliar man, entered the room. Although Xichen did not recognize the stranger, there was an inexplicable sense of familiarity that washed over him.
Although he was unsure of his identity, for some unknown reason, Xichen knew that the man was the most important person in the room. As they walked towards him with purpose, he pondered the reasons behind their presence. Could it be because of his exceptional performance? Perhaps they were aware of the mishaps he had caused, damaging some equipment. However, he couldn't fathom that they would go to such lengths just for that. It was merely an accident, and he doubted he could afford the consequences right now. Anxious, he trembled as they approached him with determination. Gathering his courage, he stood up and took a deep breath, preparing himself for what awaited him. He realized that he was in deep trouble now, and there was no turning back. With resolve, he waited as they closed in on him.
