Train

Axel left the Masuda Dojo late at night. He bid goodbye to Luna and Ken Masuda, saying he would come back tomorrow.

His eyes still had the gleam of a normal seventeen-year-old. But when he rode the public bus home and started to walk back to his house, he assumed a gloomy, indifferent demeanor.

Axel arrived at his house with a small smile on his lips.

That was fun.

Tomorrow, he would come back.

The memories of his brother and how he practiced the sword were deeply integrated into his brain. Axel did not notice that he had applied his brother's techniques in his fight with Luna.

He glanced at his hand, and the sensation of parrying against her did not fade.

So this was the feeling of fighting an opponent stronger than you? And having the confidence that you have the power to stand up against them.

Axel’s heart was beating loudly.

He stood up from his bed and stared at his wrist. The silver chain bracelet glowed in his hand. It hummed against his skin, as if it sensed that he wanted to fight.

He quickly willed it to transform into a sword. He came down from his room and stood on the balcony with the sword.

There was no one in his yard, just him. The soft wind blew through the trees, and the cold temperature grazed his skin.

He touched the memories of his brother and was immersed in the sensation of the sword.

His brother always practiced as if the sword were an extension of his hand. He would do image training every day.

The enemies he wasn’t able to defeat… he pictured fighting them once again and strove to improve through this mental practice.

Axel pictured his own opponent.

When he opened his eyes, he saw the arrogant face of the boy who had killed him. He and his friends always dragged him out of the classroom during break time and lunch. They would take turns beating him up.

They used their abilities on him, laughing when he tried to breathe through his mouth after they plunged his head into a bucket of water. They would smugly high-five each other when they tied him up and left him hanging on the rooftop fence for an hour.

Axel always had a good memory. He remembered each of their abilities, their fighting skills, the strength behind their kicks and punches. Their family backgrounds, their routes from their homes to school. The faces of their families.

“I wonder what faces their parents will make… as they watch their proud sons driven crazy?”

----------------------------------------

All night, Axel did not stop practicing. In his image training, he predicted how each of his opponents would use their abilities when they were cornered, when they didn’t want to lose, when they were at their peak.

It wasn’t until dawn that he slept in his bedroom.

When he woke up again, it was already noon. He went out of his house after a quick shower and checked his brother’s address book.

Axel was checking Nyx’s memories. One of the teammates who betrayed him had the power to control any living being. They were twins. The other one could control non-living things. These twins were currently out of reach, even for him right now.

They were both female celebrities who had swayed the hearts of men for years. One was a singer, the other was an actor. To approach them, he needed the help of this person.

Axel looked down at his brother’s notebook.

This person had retired from being a Challenger five years ago. He looked up his information earlier and it was said he ran a restaurant near the C City port.

Axel used his brother’s money to buy a customized smartwatch for himself. But he did not save his information in the account settings.

He used it to travel for his convenience.

When he arrived, the location was boisterous. The retired Challenger’s restaurant was located in the middle of an activity center. There were many known clothing shops, food souvenir stores, other restaurants, KTV, bars, and coffee shops.

Kakani Restaurant.

After circling the area full of crowds for an hour, he was able to find it. There were indeed many people dining in, and the line was long.

But there were still seats available.

While standing in line, the restaurant manager was urging the staff to clean more tables to make space for other customers who hadn’t eaten yet. She stopped right across from Axel, and their eyes met.

Axel may have appeared suspicious with his black jogging pants and hooded jacket. But with just one look, she recognized him.

This manager was the owner’s wife, Marina. The owner was the one Axel was looking for. Five years ago, the owner retired to marry his wife and started this Kakani restaurant.

She excitedly squealed and rushed to Axel.

“Boy, do you remember me?” She was a plump, middle-aged lady with red lips, a white face, and a cheerful smile. She was your typical next-door kind lady.

The restaurant had expanded and boomed, but Axel could still remember this place. When he was eight years old, Nyx couldn’t leave him alone in the house, so he left him under her care. Both Marina and he would wait for her husband and Nyx to arrive every time they attacked the Tower.

Marina often cooked Axel delicious pumpkin soup, and they would eat it together late at night. Now, seeing her once again, Axel removed his hood and smiled at her.

“Yes, Auntie. Do you still make that pumpkin soup?”

“Awww,” Marina’s eyes started to get wet. She affectionately hugged him.

“Boy, why did you come here only now? We were waiting for you! Come here. Come here. Let’s get you some food.”

The other people who were waiting in line watched Axel being dragged by the manager to the back area. Some could not contain their curiosity and asked the staff.

“Who was that boy?”
