Chapter 3
I always had the misconception that my Hogwarts letter would arrive on my birthday, I don't know why ! Maybe because of Fanfictions?
Now that I'm thinking about it, I remember that Hagrid gave Harry his letter on his 11 birthday, but before that he got dozens of letters, even if they were destroyed by Venom, is it Venom or Vernon ?
But I digress, I was just reading a book when the there was knock on the door of my room, after I opened the door I saw the Matron of the Orphanage and another woman standing there.
The other woman was in her late 30, she was white, had reddish blond hair and an upturned nose, she was kinda average? The only thing that stood out was her purse, it was mad out of crocodile or snake leather, an ugly thing.
The matron smiled at me and then said.
"Good Morning, Mr. Smith, may I introduce you to Mrs. Burbage, she is a professor of a private school that was made aware of your excellent grades and granted you a scholarship."
I was so shocked that there would suddenly be a Hogwarts Professor in my room, especially because it was June and my new and old Birthday was the first of August, that I started fidgeting, so when she stopped speaking I just said "Hello Ma'am" smiled and looked at her while using my fledging Occlumency skills to hide everything about my past ? Future ? Knowledge of the world and about my knowledge about magic, I did not think that she would use Legilimency one me, but better safe than sorry ! Or dead.
Mrs. Burbage smiled back at my while saying to the matron.
"Thank you Mrs. Emley, I would like to talk to Mr. Smith in private"
And the Matron just left, she did not look back or hesitated, she just left.
Something that was totally out of character for her, because even if she gives me a lot of freedom, she would never let me alone with a woman that she just meet.
It seems that my shock was visible for Mrs. Burbage because she just laughed and told me.
"Don't worry, Mr. Smith, it's just that the things that we are going to talk about are nothing for the ears of a Muggle."
I just backed off and asked.
"What is a Muggle, Ma'am?"
She just smiled, took a stick, no Wand out of her left sleeve waved it at the door and the behind her where she conjured a chair.
I stared at the chair in amazement, I mean I knew that I was in the world of Harry Potter, and I knew that I had magic in me, but to actually see even something as simple as a chair being conjured ? That was amazing.
I was broken out of my amazement when Mrs. Burbage sat down on her chair while telling me.
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
"That Mrs. Smith was magic, something that you possess and will learn to harness and use at the school that I represent, and Muggles are the opposite of us Witches and Wizards, those people who can't use magic nor see or feel it, now I know that you have questions, so please ask them all at once, I will do my best to answer them, and please call me Professor Burbage."
I nodded while sitting down at my desk, after thinking it trough I asked the things that I think a child in my situation would ask.
"Ehm professor Burbage, what is that stick that you waved around ? Did you use magic to make Mrs. Emley go away? And what is the name of that school ? Did I get really a scholarship for it ? Because I don't think the Orphanage can pay for it! And can I fly with magic?."
Professor Burbage just smiled patiently while waiting for me to finish, when it was clear that I was finished with my questions, she put her wand back in her sleeve while explaining to me.
"That stick, is called Wand something that every Witch and Wizard has, it helps us to focus and use our magic, it would be far more difficult and wasteful to use magic without it.
And yes, I used magic to make Mrs. Emley go away, it's nothing harmful, and I was allowed to use it per the laws of the magical government,
I just couldn't allow that a Muggle learns about the magical world.
You need to understand Mr. Smith the magical world and the muggle world are separated from each other, and we magicals need to do everything in our power so that the muggles will not find out about our world, that is a law that is hundreds of years old, and any violation of that law will be punished, do you understand Mr. Smith?."
The look that she gave me was intensive, it seems that the statue is something that is taken really serious.
I nodded while saying.
"Yes Professor"
She stopped with the look and continued talking.
"Good, you will learn more about it when you arrive at Hogwarts, that is the name of the school, Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry, one of the best schools in the world."
I could almost feel the pride that she radiated.
"While you will learn more about the Statue of Secrecy at Hogwarts, that is the name of the law, I can already tell you that as an underaged wizard you are not allowed to use any magic in the muggle world.
Till you are 17, you are not allowed to use magic outside of school, you will be allowed to use magic in the muggle world when you are and adult, and even then you need to be careful and take precautions not to show magic to the muggles, something that I did when I entered the Orphanage, a spell that will make it so that for the next two hours nothing abnormal will be noticed by the muggles, and another spell that made Mrs. Emley leave and one that locked the door and made it so that everybody in the Orphanage will forget you and this room for the next 8 hours.
If a muggle finds out about magic he or she will be needed to be Oblivated, a spell that erases memories from a person.
And even then it can be that you will be fined or charged by the Ministry of magic.
I know that it's a lot to remember and that it's sound scary, but you need to understand that the Statue is one of the most important laws that we have."
I'm just nodding while trying to show my most serious face, it seemed to have worked because she's smiling and nodded to herself while continuing.
"Okay, if you understood it, than it's good.
And you don't need to worry about money, I have with me enough money for all seven years of your tutoring, so if you do not have any question we will be going to Diagon Ally, the biggest shopping street in our country, and to the Gringrotts, a bank run by Goblins, there we will open an account with your Hogward's letter for you and deposit the money that I have with me, be warned Mr. Smith that the money will need to last you for all seven years."
I tried to look surprised and asked.
"Goblins Professor ? And what letter ?."
Professor Burbage looked surprised for a Moment, before she frowned and took a letter out of her purse, and gave it to me.
I took the letter, no not the letter but The Letter.
The Letter that will change my life.
Professor Burbage continued speaking while smiling.
"I'm sorry Mr. Smith I should have given you the letter earlier, that is your official Hogwarts' acceptance letter, congratulations"
My hand were shaking as I took the letter from her, there on the letter stood the word that I think everyone in my old world dreamt of.
Mr N.Smith
Fourth Room 2nd Floor
12 Meard street
Soho
London
I was a little overwhelmed, I mean with just those words everything just got so real.
As I opened the letter and saw the Hogwarts list with all those strange Books and equipment, the only thing that I could ask where
"When can we go, Professor Burbage?"
She just smiled, stood up and stretched her hand out.
"If you're ready Mr Smith, then now!"
As i stood up and took her Hand, the only thought in my Head was that i hate rollercoasters with a passion.
