54: Sky's Arrival

54: Sky's Arrival

When the three of them made it down to the Ceremony Hall, Denewulf came bursting in. {What happened?! I felt some kind of powerful magic and my sibling’s eyes changed colors!}

{Well… We changed the sign of Dream,} Selina summarized.

Denewulf froze and stared at them for a few moments. {You changed the sign of Dream?! How? To what?!} Rather than happy, he looked rather startled.

{Is there something wrong?} Dorian asked.

{Something came out of my sister’s shadow,} Denewulf reported, {You didn’t change the sign to a body double, did you?}

{Absolutely not!} Selina refuted instantly. {Can you show us what you are talking about?}

{James took the body double to his house for now. It is sleeping,} Denewulf explained as he led them out of the Tree of Concordia towards the wall.

{Could you explain what you meant by body double?} Howard asked as he kept pace.

Denewulf paused for a moment. {She doesn’t really look like my sister, but she feels like her other half somehow.}

{Her other half?} Selina repeated.

They arrived at James’ house and went inside. Laying on the bed in his spare room was a young girl who looked nothing like Denewulf’s sister except for her possible age. She had a feeling of tranquility and power to her. Howard felt a small pull towards her.

{Do you think that this could be her?} Dorian asked.

{You mean, their daughter?} Selina asked.

Dorian nodded. {Power is her name right now, but it seems like a shame to let a little girl live named after a discriminated form of magic.}

The girl was very beautiful. All of her features were a shade of blue. It reminded Howard of the blue sky he hadn’t seen since they had arrived. {She looks like the sky,} he commented, entranced.

{She does,} Selina agreed with a gentle smile, {Her skin is so pale compared to everyone else we have met here too.}

{Couldn’t that just mean she is sick?} Howard asked, concerned.

{I don’t know. It could also be because she does not have weakness against the sun here.}

{Isn’t this more important than that?} Dorian broke in, {If this is who we think it is, the Oracles will want to know. More than that, where is her ghost? Jonathan claimed to have met her. Now that the body has appeared we likely have to make sure they are united.}

Selina reached out and took the girl’s hand. “Come home, Sky,” she whispered.

The little girl suddenly opened up her eyes and looked over at Selina. {Sky? Is that my name?} she asked. It seemed she understood what Selina said.

{It is,} Selina told her.

The girl smiled. {It is a nice name. Are you my mommy?}

Selina’s smile stiffened and she glanced back at Howard.

Dorian was the one to step forward. {Sky, do you remember who you are?}

{I am Sky,} she replied, {You just told me. Are you my daddy?}

{What is going on?} Denewulf asked, {Did she lose her memories when you named her?}

{I didn’t know that would happen,} Selina defended quickly, looking guilty.

{Mommy?} Sky asked.

Selina bit her lip. {I am not your mommy. Your parents are somewhere else right now. I will try to talk to them okay?}

{Okay,} Sky agreed easily.

{James, can you watch her?} Dorian asked.

{Of course,} James replied immediately, {I am still not sure what is going on, but be careful.}

The moment they stepped out the door they were face to face with Zandra. {You certainly are quick to change things,} she told them, {So the heiress has returned? Let me go with you.}

{Go with us?} Dorian asked, {Where do you intend on going with us?}

{To the heart of Concordia to contact the Oracles,} Zandra replied, {It will be simpler this way.}

{What will be simpler?} Selina asked.

Zandra stepped forward. {I wish to join you as the fourth Sage of Concordia and merge my colony with yours,} she replied, {I also want to bring the wishes of the Oracles to reality. It is clear to me that this is the place I need to be to do so.}

{How do we know we can trust you?} Howard asked, {You were clearly testing us before.}

{I said I would give you the protective cream, but I never said how,} Zandra pointed out, {If we merge, the experts who make it will live here with you, and you could have access to it for your entire colony indefinitely.}

{As long as you join us as a Sage,} Howard concluded and looked at the other two. {How about this. We will treat you as an apprentice for the time being until we are certain you don’t mean us harm.}

{And when would my probation period end?} Zandra asked.

{How about a year?} Selina suggested, {That is how long we were apprentices.}

{Fair enough. I agree,} Zandra accepted, {Shall I show you an easier way to communicate with the Oracles?}

{Why not,} Dorian agreed, {That would likely help a lot for the future.}

Zandra pulled out a small stone. {This will allow us to communicate with them, but it might not be as thorough as your communication method.}

As she activated the stone a woman’s voice immediately filled their minds.

{Thank you for saving my beloved daughter. Please take care of her.}

The stone shattered.

{What was that?!} Selina demanded in surprise.

{That is the part that is less efficient. Once the Oracle’s finish giving their message, the stone shatters. It can only be used once.}

{But that was the woman,} Howard realized, {Only Denewulf has heard her so far.}

{That would be the part that is better,} Zandra explained, {By the way, I intercepted a message earlier. That is why I came here.}

{A message?} Dorian asked.

{Yes. The sender appears to be the Colony of Veda.}
