Chapter 19 Loot

Jack pulled his spear out of the body lying in front of him before using Conjure Water to clean the blood off his weapon.

He looked over at Elyra’s niece, noticing her licking her cracked lips. With her green skin tone, it was hard to tell but Jack thought she looked a bit off color. Jack approached her, a concerned expression on his face. "Are you thirsty? Hungry?" he asked gently.

Lyla nodded, her voice hoarse as she replied, "Yes, please. Anything you have would be appreciated."

Jack reached into the pouch of holding that he had retrieved from Darius and pulled out a water skin, offering it to her. "Here, drink slowly," he said, handing her the water skin.

She took it gratefully, taking small sips as Jack rummaged through the pouch for something to eat. He found some jerky, which he handed to her.

"Here, this should help," Jack said, offering her the food.

The Scraeling accepted it with a thankful smile, nibbling on the dried fruits and jerky as she regained her strength. Jack watched her for a moment, relieved to see color returning to her cheeks and some of the tension leaving her body.

He then proceeded to examine the body of the necromancer. The first thing he noticed was that Darius had a ring on every finger. 6 of them were made of copper with a piece of quartz inserted in each. The gemstones were small and dull, indicating their low value.

Jack examined the next 2 rings which were made of brass with a small jasper inset.

With each step taken, the ring whispers secrets of long-forgotten riches and guides the wearer towards the discovery of priceless wonders hidden in the depths of the world.]

Jacks eyes widened. These last 2 rings were amazing. He didn’t have any summoning spells yet but once he did the gold ring would increase the power of any creature he summoned.

The Ring of fortune was even more intriguing. Jack's fingers trembled slightly as he reached for it, almost reverently. The metal was black with purplish-white sheen and the ruby sparkled with an inner fire. A ring that increased his chances of finding better loot? Yes please!

After sliding all ten rings onto his fingers Jack looked through the elf’s other possessions. The only other things he had on him were the pouch, knife, and wand and his robes.

Jack stuffed the robes into the pouch. He had no use for the garment currently as his only spells were Water based ones.

Jack face wrinkled in revulsion as he realized who Darius must have been planning to use this knife on. He glanced over at Elyria’s niece who was still sitting on the table, her eyes closed as she breathed deeply in and out.

Jack wanted to comfort her but felt that might be a mistake. He had once heard his therapist say that in the wake of trauma, sometimes silence and space were more healing than words.

Turning back to the next item, the pouch, Jack noted its silky-smooth texture and the faint shimmer of moonstones embedded in the fabric. Carefully, he opened the pouch and peered inside to examine the contents. The inventory inside had 15 slots. Each slot could contain 30 of the same item and 5 slots were occupied.

One slot had a stack of five coins made of a shiny metal that Identify revealed as platinum.

He also found 8 more healing potions, as well as 10 other potions he didn’t recognize. Identify revealed them to be Lesser Mana Potions.

The other slots in the pouch contained food, water, and wine. The contents indicated it was a well-stocked supply for a nobleman or a rich man planning to spend time in the wilderness. He made a mental note to take the provisions with him; they might come in handy during his travels.

Now he turned his attention to the final item.

[Bone Wand of Death Bolts

Jack didn’t know how or if the wand could be recharged but it still might come in useful down the line. He deposited the wand and knife into the pouch which he secured around his waist with the belt that Darius had once worn.

Next, he turned his attention to the notifications he had been ignoring.
