Chapter 3

Once my stamina had reached 70/100, I asked Vince to arm wrestle me. The bird had settled itself on the ground. It did not appear to have an interest in moving so, I felt it was safe to arm wrestle. There is no way I should be able to win this when comparing our physical bodies. We both got on the ground and got into position. Bridget is the referee of this.

“3, 2, 1, GO!”

Vince and I started and to everyone’s shock we were dead even.

“Well, you are stronger than you look.” Exclaimed Vince.

“I believe our stats dictate our physical capabilities. If you were to arm wrestle Bridget it would likely be a tie as well.” We stopped arm wrestling and stood up.

“Wait I am as strong as Vince? Babe let me try to pick you up!” Bridget said excitedly.

Next thing I know Bridget is holding Vince like a dainty princess. It is rather amusing to see such a hulking man be held like that. Vince seemed to be rather amused by it as well.

“Holy shit I can pick you up! Shit, I can’t walk though.”

Bridget put Vince down then sat down clearly tired again. After waiting for Bridget to recuperate. We fan out around the Quilox in order to try and trap it. We all start to rush at it but as we get closer it jumps up and starts to run away. Escaping us yet again. Then I hear Bridget yell “Fireball!”

A small ball of fire flew from her hand she had stretched out and pointed at the bird. It flew through the air and hit the bird making it stumble. Then I hear Vince yell out Fireball as well and another small ball of fire hit the bird. It was clearly hurt by the attacks but it was still alive. I point my hand at the bird and yell “Fireball!”

The fire flies through the air and hits the bird. It drops to the ground not moving. Some of the feathers were burnt off and others were on fire.

“WOW! That was amazing! I just created fire!” Bridget excitedly says. She starts to examine her hand with a massive grin on her face.

We walk up to the bird and we see a box appear on the ground next to the bird. The box was about as large as a watermelon. It was black with glowing white lines that weaved all over it. The weird thing was that the lines moved around the box like smoke in the air. A text appears above the box.

Base Box

Used to create a Base Obelisk. Place on ground and stand a few yards away from box. The person that places the box will be tied to the base and considered the creator. Once tied to a base obelisk that connection cannot be broken. The position of founder cannot be changed.

The author's tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

“Who wants to pick that up?” Asked Bridget.

We stood in silence for a little bit until Vince walked up and grabbed it. He turned to us and asked “Should I place it down?”

“Wait. If we place it, we likely cannot move it so, we should be sure where we want to place it before doing so.” I responded.

“Yeah, your right. We should place it close to flowing water.” Said Vince.

“Why flowing water?” I ask.

“We have bottled water but how long will that last? With flowing water, we will be secure on water. We will likely be staying around the obelisk so our only concern would be food.”

“Oh! There is a stream in the park. Follow me.” Bridget says brightly. Clearly using magic made her very excited and put her in a good mood. She started walking and humming. Vince and myself just follow along behind her.

After getting to the stream, we walk a little bit away from it where there is an open grass area. Vince walks away and places the box down onto the ground. He then walks back over to us and watches. The box suddenly starts to sink into the ground. Then after the box was completely in the ground and a few seconds had passed, a white stone point started to rise from the ground. It grew for a few seconds then stopped. On each of the four sides there was a blue box. It looked almost like a blue window that was glowing. Vince exclaimed “Wow.” He then walked up to the blue glowing box. I followed him then a text box popped up.

You are in front of a Base Obelisk and you are not connected to a base yet. Would you like to connect? If you are interested it should be noted that once connected you cannot change your connection to another Base Obelisk. Please press Yes or No.

Since Vince is already connected, I figure I might as well connect to the obelisk. When I press yes, I notice that the blue box on the obelisk now has writing but more pressing is that a red light is shining out of the top of the obelisk into the sky. That will attract attention.

I walk up to one of the sides of the obelisk and see that the writing is a bunch of options. I pressed one titled Experience. When I press the blue surface, ripples came out a small distance around my figure. The blue screen was solid and not wet at all though. It was a little beautiful to see the ripples.

After some reading, I found out that in order for any experience to be gained a person must be connected to an obelisk. Experience will be gained by killing monsters and doing quests. I have no idea what these quests are or how to get them though. Overall, the obelisk seems to act as an information hub for us. I will need to read through everything it has later when I have more time.

“That red light will probably bring attention.” Muttered Vince.

“Not much we can do now. We should bring over all of our stuff from the vehicles and start setting up here.” I said in response.

The three of us went ahead and got our stuff and set up tents. We put the food and water in a pile and the other gear inside other tents for storage. I had a tent to myself while Vince and Bridget were sharing a tent. We still had a few unused tents just laying in a pile incase we needed them for something.

“We should get a fire going.” Bridget said. I get the feeling she just wanted to use Fireball again. It turns out the (10) next to Fireball was how much mana it cost to use it. Four total uses can be used in rapid succession if we are at full mana.

I head off into the woods to collect some wood for the fire. Looking back, I can easily see the red beam of light from here even during the day. Everyone in the city likely can see it as well. That will definitely draw some people here.
