Chapter 2

Arriving back at my car, Bridget and I started waiting for Vince to return. Bridget kept trying to contact her family but none of them would answer her. I decided to try and contact my family as well. After a few attempts at calling my parents, they would not answer so I gave up. I went out of state for college anyway so I can’t just run home to check on them right now.

Bridget then spoke “What do we do now?”

That is a question I had not even thought about. What do we do? Looking around, I noticed that the number of monsters was starting to increase. When we first got here, there were not many monsters. While the number I can see is still low, it has increased in comparison to when we got here. Staying here in the city might not be a smart idea. The monsters are a threat but so are other people. We have been looting stores and it looks like some other people are starting to do that as well. With the threat of monster’s people might start getting violent with each other. So, getting out of the city might be good since the main problem would then be only monsters.

“Do you know any place that is not in the city that we could go to that does not have too many people?”

“Hm, Somewhere not in the city with few people.” Bridget muttered while scrunching up her face to think.

“Why out of the city and without people?”

“People might start to get violent soon due to what is happening. So, if we leave the city we can try and avoid that.”

“That makes sense. There is a public park outside the city. Not too many people there.”

A park would work. Right as I was thinking about the park Vince returned.

“What now?” Vince said to both of us.

“We are thinking of going to Glenn park. People might get violent so getting out of the city and away from people would be a good idea.” Bridget said then let out a long breath.

Vince thought for a moment then said “What about that creature the message told us to kill for the base box?”

That’s right! We were told to kill something for a base box. It would give us a safe zone from the monsters. What was the creature that we were to kill though?

“What are we to kill for the box?” Looking at Vince I asked.

“No fucking clue.” shrugged Vince.

“Can we pull that message up again?” Asked Bridget.

“I remember that the monster will have pink text for its name.” Vince noted.

This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it

“Let’s start heading to the park. If we see a pink text monster we can stop and kill it. Talking here in the parking lot is not the best idea.” I said while looking around.

“Alright.”

“Okay.”

Then I realized I had no idea how to get to the park Bridget was talking about.

“I will need to follow both of you since I have no idea how to get to the park.”

“No problem, I can easily get us there.” Vince said confidently.

After arriving at the park, I could see some bird that looked a little like the dodo bird walking around in the middle of an open grassy area. That bird had a pink text above its name. What are the fucking odds.

~~~
Bridget lay on the ground panting like a dog. Vince was squatting while breathing deeply. I was sitting staring at that bird. I am exhausted. We have spent the last 30 minutes trying to get the Quilox. Every time we would get close it would start running or jumping and flap around a short distance. It was reminiscent of a chicken. Right now, I want nothing more than to roast that bird for dinner.
“Ok few more minutes and we will try again.” Vince gasped.
Bridget groaned in response.
Something I noticed was that we were all equally tired despite Vince clearly being in better physical shape than Bridget or myself. Taking a second I looked at my wrist.
Level 1
Experience 0/3000
Health 100/100
Mana 40/40
Stamina 12/100
Alright, it’s a little cool to see how tired I am in numbers. Also, it seems I am back to full heath. I look at my arm where I had gotten cut and sure enough the cut had healed. That was way too fast for it to be healed. It must be the result of, well, whatever happened to our world. Since I have yet to kill any monsters, I have no experience. Well, that does make sense. Looking at the text window I noticed a plus symbol. I tried pressing on it and some options appeared. I could choose Stats or Spell Book. Clicking on Spell Book brought up a new box. It had a single line that said Fireball (10). I then went to Stats.
Strength 10
Dexterity 10
Intelligence 10
Endurance 10
Luck 10
Resistance 10
Durability 10
Interestingly everything is at 10. Looking at each stat, I think I might know what some of them do. Strength probably has to do with how much you can carry and damage with a melee weapon. Dexterity is probably aim with a bow along with how graceful you can be with your body. Wait, who cares about a bow when you can use a gun. Same with a machete but I have no idea where to go to get a gun. Anyway, intelligence probably is centered around magic and mana. What I am interested in is if it makes you smarter if you level it up. That seems a little too convenient though. Endurance is likely centered around stamina. Luck, I have no good idea for. Resistance and durability are a little odd. They are about how well someone can take a hit but are they not the same? I am going to guess and say one is for physical damage an the other is magical damage. I bet Resistance is for magic while Durability is for physical.
“Hey, could both of you look at your stats and tell me what they are?” I asked.
“Sure.”
“Fine.”
They both started to go to their stats when Bridget yelled “Oh! Spell Book! I have GOT to see what I have! Wait, I only have Fireball. That sucks.”
Vince looked at her amused then said “All of my stats are at 10.”
Then Bridget looked at her stats and said hers were the same. Interesting, so we all have 10 in everything.
Thinking for a little bit. Maybe stats influence our physical capabilities and that is why we are all equally tired. Looking at my stamina it is now at 37/100. In a little while we can do an experiment.
