Chapter 5

"So, you were genetically engineered to survive and adapt in harsh planets? And given enough time, you can adapt and live there for years on end without any problems? Also, the fact that ageless immortality is basically just the only thing we all have in common is pretty cool not gonna lie." The cyborg said, "Oh, and there's the fact that you used to live on mars before getting summoned here, you sure your heart is strong enough to pump blood in this gravity?"

"That's basically the gist of it yes, right as long as a planet has an atmosphere thick enough to protect organisms from solar flares and the oxygen within said atmosphere is abundant for basic human life, then yes, I can survive. Given that there's food and water available of course,"

Well it worked on mars the first time didn't it? I don't doubt that it can work again, adapting just takes time, that's all."

"You still look unusually pale though," I chimed,

"Eh, atleast I'm not dead.- oh, and also, old age has been like- one of the larger problems humanity has faced, so of course they'll try to stop and counter that no matter what, GEEZ! It's literally common sense! If I wasn't agelessly immortal, I would have wished for the same thing!" Elaine answered,

After I was done retelling the history of my world, the others felt the need to join in and tell the rest of their own as well, which, thanks to that- I was able to learn quite a few stuff about them and how their body upgrades had been influenced.

Apparently, on Elaine's earth, humanity had started to destroy their home. So, with an estimated 20 years before destruction, the scientists of her earth came together to make humans as adaptable as possible, hoping that their species survives the sudden change in the environment.

But they all had a question that was unable to be answered floating inside their head, "how?" Hoping for an answer; they all came down to the very place where life had started- the ocean. And from there, they saw the animal commonly known as the "octopus" and a brilliant answer shone in their head- On the Fly Self Gene Editing. Or, OFSGE.

The resulting humans from the experiments had near perfect genetic make up that, not only does it make them stronger, faster, taller, and just overall be better. This gene can also adapt from environmental pressures- capable of making humans evolve and devolve in a matter of months, instead of millions of years.

I asked her if the gene can somehow pick which cell to kill and which cell gets to live all the while creating new and improved, environment friendly genomes as it did. But the girl merely said "I'm not one of your people, think about it yourself." And playfully? I think-muttered, "goddamn nerd," with a smirk.

While Jessie, lived in a world plagued by war, her earth was devastated that 'nuclear winter' is the only season available for them, still, in one way or another- humanity had found peace and decided that they should fix the mess they had caused, in which they did.

After a few years, a new source of energy that came from the melted radioactive ice that surrounds them all year round became commonplace, and with humanity being on the right track once again, they slowly but surely, fixed their world.

First, radiation resistant mechs were built, then- with their knowledge of machinery, the problem of losing limbs from frostbites was fixed with advanced prosthetics, and after that, mixing everything they had achieved so far- the very first radiated water powered cyborg was built; half human, half machine; created through sheer trial and error, and made possible because of humanity accepting and their mistakes and mending their damage.

And then came Jessie, one of the newer cyborg renditions, with systems and machinery so advance, she almost rivalled mine. Almost. And in some areas she did- especially when it comes to strength and durability, in which, she can lift boulders that weigh more than a thousand tons, can survive a fall from a 40 foor drop, and due to springs that are located on her legs- on all of her primary joints really- can jump over 18 feet in the air if she wants to.

Impressive if one considers all the weight her machinery has to offer. Especially the surviving from a 4 story building part.

Oh, and she also apparently has extreme fire power, though it is only briefly mentioned.

Then, there's Collous, who was infused with nanites advance enough to compete and rival both mine and Jessie's machinery simultaneously. The cell sized robots, surprisingly, despite not being manually controlled- have not gone rogue or even damage their hosts. Which is, quite the feat.

Even my sister had planned the nanites based on our unique physiology; that being the fact that we have super computers Implanted and built within us. Then again, she was planning on making self sustaining nanites that can build one another from the iron that's contained in our blood, nanites that are powerful enough to turn one material into another, albeit with a few limitations. Still, turning coal into diamond using microscopic robots would've been revolutionary, and there's also the fact that we can manually control them. Still, I assume all of that is in the past now, who knows how long it will take for me to create and design nanites of my own. And they would most likely have a few similarities to my sister's own design as well. And, not to take credit- Collous' own nanites are impressive nevertheless.-

The only problem it currently poses is the fact that he needs to refill his nanites every 10 years or so.

-Especially the current fact that his own nanites can repair broken tissue on a cellular level, and at the same time, input and infuse foreign materials as it did. It can do so without any problems as well, miraculously. Cyborgs, like me and Jessie pose problems due to the fact that we have actual metal that can poison us imbedded within our body, however, if it is say for example, cell by cell only- or more specifically the skin cell's outer walls, then it would pose no problem to just, put metallic substances in them. Internally, one would still have regular human cells for blood and organs, but, their skin; the whole first and partial second layer, would be mostly, metal. Or alteast, this would ring true for a small part of the skin cell's Cytoskeleton.

The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

So, when the athlete said that- "eh, it's technically the same cell, just has metallic properties in em!" I do believe it was partially true, which, also brings me to him stating that: back in his world, one can get stronger the longer one lives in correlation with the harder they train and push their bodies way past their breaking point, and with good diet, this especially rings true for diet as if one consumes food with high calcium, not only would the nanite induced repair of microfractures be more effective than the body's self repairing osteoclasts ever could. And the nanites can not only be accurate on their repairs, but also build the new bone layer- Which, I have theorized that with enough coding and external guidance, the repair can even be based on the diabolical iron clad beetle's multi-layered puzzle-like exoskeleton. Add on the fact that metal and iron can be added as new materials, and you've got yourself actual, ageless superhumans with nigh infinite potential.

And given enough time and more nanites that are not only on the physical and muscle side, but also on the nerve and and brain one? And you've got yourself a god that has a body of steel and the nervous system and the mind of one.

So not only do the long live humans become extremely durable, but in most extreme cases, some can even survive MAGMA.

And yes, I didn't stutter- it's the underground kind.

It not only says alot about why their society has a class based system that can only let one pick one specific nanite all throughout their life, with Callous only possesing and injected with muscle strengthening microscopic robots- but the potential of nanite and cell based technology as well.

It seems that it wouldn't take long before my sister- no, my entire family finds me and this dimension.

And speaking of nanites, I was able to hear and feel millions tiny machines clunking when Collous snapped his finger to wake me up from my daze- "You ok there bud?"

"I'm fine, I'm fine!" I waved him off,

"Still though, isn't it like? Super cool that we are all next generation humans from our respective worlds? I mean, can you imagine?! It's like, super cool that our very own environments shaped our upgrades and stuff like that!" Elaine, who was suddenly possessed by a valley girl, excitedly said. Then with a frown, she looked at the teen sulking in the corner and spoke in the softest and soothing voice she ever had so far- "Still though, what kind of upgrades do you have? And does your earth has it's catastrophic history? Even Collous' society had to deal with nanites infused men working governments at the start."

The kid looked down, and sighed, before speaking; "well, I'm an enhanced human, but, nothing as good as you guys. I can live for as long as 140 years, but I don't get stronger as I age, I become weaker. Deteriorate. You know? The same way regular humans do. I have good physical strength and durability, but that's about it."

"Explains how you survived the pummeling of this nanite infused superhuman." I patted the shoulder of the guy beside me, making him scratch his head.

"Sorry about that dude, kinda got heated up, but you know? But this kid right here might be right! This may very well be a dream and may wake up unscathed! Still, sorry." The athlete said with a grin,

The guy scoffed, and glared at us, "so what? That's it? I suddenly forget about the part I was beaten up and we all become friends now? After turning me into this?" He pointed at his beaten down body, at his face that still had a few saliva on it, and his red and bruised up arm.

Everyone stayed silent while the genetically enchanced and nanite infused superhumans said "sorry" simultaneously.

"Listen here, no matter how soothing the voice, or how neutral the words are, I won't forgive any of you..." The teen scowled,

"Not with that attitude," Jessie said, her hands placed on her hip, "their saying sorry to you so that you can mentally forgive them, no shit it wouldn't fix your wounds! Their asking for forgiveness, and it is up to you, whether or not you'll repair that severed connection. Dumbass."

"AND I SAID NO!"he thrashed, "and first and foremost, I didn't even have a connection with any of you in the first place, I don't even know you guys. HELL! We all came from different realities even!"

"You seem to want to talk earlier, why the changed of heart? What, you still think you can beat us all down? Even after we showcased our enhancements?" The teen flinched,

"Bullseye then?" The smile on her face continued to curve upwards as she continued to stare the teen down, "you think your better than us?"

The cyborg shrugged, "Well, not that it matters. Think about beating all of us all you want, but atleast give us your name or something?"

"Kyle"

"Nice to meet you then,"

After that, jessie once again tried to talk to him, found no results. And after her un-fruitful attempt, no one else tried interacting with the guy- "he needs time" we all concluded, and yeah; I agree on that notion, especially when it comes to the two that actively harassed him.

Despite the bad blood though, the guy didn't seem too eager to hold grudges and carry resentment. So yeah, it'll just take time before the guy softens where he would eventually talk to us; with little bit resentment towards the two people that had beaten him of course.

After Kyle's outburst, we all really had no choice but to wait our requests out, and while we did- we might well check our so called status screens.

"So there are only two things that I can see in system, those being the being the "Job" and "Spell" cards. You?" I asked the three beside me,

"The same actually"

"Same as yours."

"We're no different."

"Then I assume that the same goes for you as well?" I asked Kyle, him nodding in agreement afterwards.

"Given that all of us most likely only has 1 chance at getting this so called "Job" which should be something equal an RPG's class, then I think we all need to carefully pick whatever it is we're going to get. The Spells that we learn should be job specific as well," Jessie nagged,

With a little bit of talking here and there, Jessie had explained that apparently, from her understanding of job's, we can technically become experts at something we aren't. Given that the job we possess at the time would somehow, in one way or another correlate with our profiency problems of course.

And not that we needed them, we're already powerful and skillful enough as is. Still, we tried a few methods were we could potentially get jobs, like sparring, meditating, and the like.

Nothing so far though.

After a few more minutes of trying with no job visiblein the horizon, well all just... did our thing. "So what now?" The athlete asked as he exercised. "We're breaking out of here or what?"

"They have magic with them, I think it's best to wait, the things that we requested should arrive sooner or later anyways. I'm hoping I'll get a job once I finish an machine or two, maybe something like I don't know? A Mechanic?" I replied,

"Pretty low for someone like you, you sure you're fine with that job's name?"

"Yeah. I mean, given our theories- it should evolve into engineer no matter what right? So I think it doesn't really even matter what our job name entails, because you know, we're all kinda just defined by our enchancements."

"There's a possibility that you can become a mage and yet, no matter how powerful your magic grows, most would still see you for what you are, a cyborg."
