"Well that fucking explains it doesn't it?" Jessie commented,
"It explains what?" Elaine asked,
"Well, first and foremost, I felt threatened whenever I talked to him, and my system just goes haywire whenever the guy is near me, oh and there's also the fact that I can't sense his goddamn machinery. Not only that, but his breathing is nigh non-existent, and I also can't sense any organic signals whenever his muscles moved. He is literally invisible to my right eye." Jessie answered whilst pointing at the black ball with a reticule that was now on her right eye socket.
Elaine's eyebrow rose up, "can you just... change what your eye looks like at will? And does it still function if it's just a normal eye? How the hell does that even work?"
"Yeah, I actually can! it's useful when you want to hide what kind of sight enhancements you possess. You can never be too safe with them after all." The cyborg replied as she scratched her head,
"And technically, this is my real eye, the one that looks like it belongs to a regular human's is just for protection and cosmetic. Think of that regular eye as something like a third eyelid, it slides sidewards to cover and hide real eye."
"Still though, I thought I was advanced when it comes to technology. Apparently not."
"Yeah~~, yeah~ he probably also has a better genetic code than me yadda yadda~~ it's good and all but what about you?" Elaine asked as she pointed at the sulking man on the corner "got any enhancements? Maybe something special eh? Like some kind of advanced strengthening drug that gets easily passed around your society?"
The answer the teen gave was to lower his head even further, "so, you don't have anything 'special' about you?" Elaine pushed, surprise yet expectance evident on her face.
"What?.." the dam broke when she still didn't get a single answer, then the seemingly frail girl bursted out laughing.
"Oh god, oh god! THE SAVIOUR OF HUMANITY SHALL RELY AND ONLY NEEDS FATE AND HIS PATHETIC FACE! OH NO! THE DEMONS WILL PERISH WITH HIS GAZE ALONE! AHAHAHAHA!" She mocked in between hysterical laughter, while the other three simply looked at him in amusement, there was no one there that felt a single sliver of pity for the once overconfident teen.
"I thought because of your overconfidence you were special! Apparently not! AHAHAHAHA!" Out of curiousity, Elaine stomped her foot beside him, the teen flinched from the sound but continued to look down. Elaine moved closer to him, and not before long- was standing infront of the depressed teen.
Giving him a low kick that hit his cheek, Elaine bent down to get closer to the beaten down man, and yelled- "DON'T FUCKING TRY TO MANIPULATE ME BY GUILT TRIPPING ME NEXT TIME YOU GOT THAT?!" She left, and the teen once again broke down to tears.
"I didn't even do anything..." he mumbled.
"So you also got the memo?" Collous asked,
"Well yeah, toxic relationships usually start with that right? I've had friends who got their self confidence shattered due to guilt tripping before getting 'caught and brought back up' by the same person who made them that way." She said, "pretty sad really, and I would've gone down that path as well, if not for the two of you. Killing someone for the first time can really take a toll on your sanity." She added,
"And that piece of shit over there would've taken advantage of everything. Even IF he did it subconciously." Elaine shuddered, goosebumbs forming all over her skin, "Fucking sociopath..." she muttered.
Her smile came back after Elaine shook her head,"Anyways! Going by what I've seen and heard, I probably would go to a state of deep depression where if that animal's plan were to succeed, he would be there for me no matter what- and when I've recovered, I would be thankful to him. And most likely, definitely with a hundred percent certainty- would fall in love with him, to the point that not only would I forget the cause of my depression, but live through future abuse as well, thinking that - 'he's better than this, I know that.' - a hopeless wish quite frankly. Because he never was better in the first place."
"Psychology 101." Collous commented,
"Yep. That's the usual turn of events for some of the victims that experience domestic abuse. Victims that somehow never ever want to leave their relationship." Zack had given his piece as well.
Elaine clapped her hands," what's done is done, and besides, I'm not really feeling guilty any longer, the damn thing's death made me forget he's one of our willing kidnappers. So, going over that! I'm from the year 2089!" Elaine cheerfully announced,
"2103" Collous said, "you?"
"2230" Zack said,
"Well, then,.. seems that we have ourselves a man from the future! so, do buildings hover over the ground in your timeline? Flying cars maybe?" Jessie teased,
"Certainly good ideas, especially the hovering buildings part- it helps with earthquakes. But, I'm afraid that infrastructure and mobility was less prioritized back in my earth. So sadly, we have no flying cars, but we do have solar powered ones." Zack answered, "What we really do have though, are humans and animals that live a damn near perfect life. Free of crime, free of being captured, free of anything."
"Free of being captured? Did zoos just cease to exist in your world?"
"I mean, do you have Zoo's in your world Jessie? And yes, what we have back in my world are sanctuaries where people can see animals in the flesh and in the wild."
"What about natural jungles and the like?"
"They're still there- just locked up in electrical fences, domes, and the like. So I guess instead of just, I don't know, something natural; it's more of like, a controlled and protected environment."
Love this novel? Read it on Royal Road to ensure the author gets credit.
By this time, Collous joined in, "how did you guys even managed to just, put a dome and a bunch of fucking fences around an area like that?"
Zack raised his index finger, "Anyone can do that theoritically, they just need a whole lot of resources and time."
"Speaking of time, care to give us a timeline and tell us what happened over the last 200 years your world experienced?"
Zack gave Elaine a nod, "Very well- one of the most notable features of my my home at the start was the fact that my world had developed advance life support systems that can preserve or atleast, slow down the deterioration of nerves; this technology enabled humans to live for over 200 years in their decrepit state. Afterwards, we started working on a virtual reality to not only make them want to live longer- this is especially true for some of the most brilliant scientists of that time- but to make them contribute to their respective fields as well. After that, around 2119, my mother was born, and dad came by three years later."
"The two promised and showed extreme potential when they were still young, but once they were teens? you can easily guess what happened- the two prodigies turned the world over it's fucking feet, and the roots of humanity was goddamn uprooted, and from where it grew; a stronger and better foothold was placed." The boy said enthusiastically,
"Nature got healed but farms became effecient, they took less land, crops needed less time to grow, and overall? It's just less downsides and more fucking benefits! The fish population rose and the ocean was once again filled with fishes! corals got engineered to easily and build themselves to the point that there is a fucking rainbow castle as a tourist spot in the middle of the sea, humans started to live longer, smoke and pollution became building blocks for our cities and shit just generally got better all over the globe." He said with pride, then, his posture had changed, his spine lowered itself, and he spoke again-
"Of course, not all of it was rainbows and butterflies-there were also downsides- like how my very own parents managed to convince every single leader of the world to publicly execute and kill every single fucking criminal there is. Terrorists got bombed in whatever corner it is they hid, and new criminals- depending on how severe their crime was, either became human experiments or got sent to boot camps where they were forcefully changed."
"And overall? a time of terror for both good and bad people loomed over the world. World War IV happened, nukes were fired once again, and Over 3 billion people died in the genocide that followed behind my parent's wake. Nations tried to fight back, but, my parents had created sattelites capable of disabling nukes mid flight, and once they did, no other country was able to resist nor develop the same technology that let my country fire the most powerful weapon man has created without consequences."
"Nations were wiped out, entire ethnicities dissapeared on earth. And from their rubble, rose our civilization. Earth became a nuclear waste land, and parents took responsibility- they created a material that was able to absorb and store radiation. And after that, the reformation of earth began."
"Then, there were no more wars and the world advanced even more- and after 3 years, when all crimes had reached an all time low, with the confirmation of all the world leaders- a prison on the moon was built. 'The Fallen's Paradise', they called it." Zack shook his head.
"Up there? There was no laws, you can kill, steal and rape all you want. No one can stop you, hell, right as long as you can do dirty work, you can even live there! In courtesy of my parents, supplies were being sent to that very place: sustenance, drugs, guns, bombs, tools, anything. It made the worst of the worst satisfied to the point that they no longer wanted to leave. A place where criminals stayed all their lives. It's morally wrong, but my parents never saw the means, because the end justifies all of it.
"It sounds nice right? Your world no longer needs to deal with criminals while those aspiring to become one can just get caught so that they can be sent there. Yeah, that's what people thought at first too, thinking that- 'hey! That isn't so bad!'."
"Then... the rehabilitation came, the softer criminals, both men and women returned from the moon shivering and in deep need of therapy. No longer did they want to harm anyone. So, at first people were just confused, asking questions like, "why are you all complaining and coming back crying?!" Or "Isn't this what you wanted?!" And the criminals that came back simply didn't answer.
"But why did they become that way? Well, the lawless land simply became a living hell, and after the initial confusion, that hell got broadcasted three times a day to anyone that has anything that can connect to the cameras up there."
"Child pornography, pregnant women getting beaten down, teenagers becoming drug addicts, the people of earth were forced to watch worst of the worst humanity has to offer. People were unable to change what their screen was showing them."
"No one dared to do a single crime in fear of getting caught and getting sent to that place," The boy said, his voice low and devoid of energy.
"After that, peace came, and humanity was finally united by fear, pleasure, and the promise of a better life right as long as they abide by society's rules."
"It only took a sea of bodies, but the world was finally at peace." Zack finished,
"Your not lying are you?" Elaine asked, somehow even paler than before.
"I have a video of a fetus getting eaten by cannibals with the umbilical cord still attached if you want. I can make a device, connect it to my wires and-"
"Stop. Just... stop." Jessie begged,
"So a land of psychopaths huh? What was, for you, the most disturbing thing that place had showed?" Collous asked, getting a groan from the two women.
"At one point, someone tried to lead the prison's populace. Which was stupid, because, well, that place doesn't really like authority- but that man had a goal: to show to the world! To prove the world wrong! To prove us all wrong on what we thought the prisoners were. And if only that's all it takes to make everything better- a goal." Zack mused, shaking his head, a smile of dissapointment present on his face.
"Well, unfortunately for that man, he loved a woman, an attempt at monogamy inside that hell" Zack's face turned into a frown after he said that.
"And his wife... well, in respect, I'm the bleakest of terms I know- She got to experience getting drugged and fucked by the whole populace, and I mean, the whole populace. 4 million people travelled across the moon to rape her, to the point where she was forced to live on life support, and even then- they kept going. Over and over, and over. The black market doctors, they were good at their job as well, they kept her concious and sane throughout the whole thing." Zack said.
"The poor woman got to experience the dicks of over 3 million men. Quite amusing if not sad, really. As for her husband? - you know, it was interesting to see a transgender surgery happen to a man while his wife repeatedly got fucked in the backround."
"When he himself self became a woman? Well, he joined his wife. The criminals didn't even let his new hole heal before they started fucking him- They both were kept alive and raped for 4 years straight before someone shot them in the head out of mercy."
"So, what happened then?" Elaine asked,
"Nothing, the populace of the moon were criminals and terminally mentally ill people- demented psychopaths so to say. So of course, they simply moved on with their day like nothing happened. Because for them, the rape that occured in that room might as well be an everyday event." Zack answered
"So they simply moved on the next fucking day? Not even feeling regret for the pain they caused? No one fucking punished them for what they did? That's it?!" Elaine protested, stomping her foot as she did "and you all let this happen?"
"I wasn't born when this happened. And yeah. The moon was a prison, that man and his wife should've expected that to happen as atleast, one of the possibilities. Also, this is reality- no one will punish the 3 million men that raped those two people Elaine. No one will, except their fellow criminals"
Jessie sighed, "your still only just a child, and yet my god... you already saw too much."
