6 - Miraculous prescription

The two men, one in front and the other behind, headed towards Chen Yuankang's study. At the entrance of the study, Louis instinctively halted, knowing that Master Ye had important matters to discuss with his master.

Ye Yang looked at Louis, who seemed about to speak, then hesitated, and said, “Louis, you must be tired after a long day. Go and rest first. Here's my number; contact me tomorrow."

Louis carefully saved Ye Yang's number, visibly thrilled, and left, looking back frequently with his three subordinates in tow.

"Dr. Ye, please," Chen Yuankang gestured towards the door respectfully.

The entrance to the study was an old-fashioned oak door. Upon opening, a faint scent of wood filled the air.

Ye Yang stepped in first.

The spacious room revealed Chen Yuankang's taste through its unique décor: a fireplace, solid wooden bookshelves, a dark green carpet. On the desk sat a bronze lamp and a deer-antler shaped pen holder, conveying a classical and dignified ambiance.

Beside the desk, an exquisite tea set rested, hinting at the owner's passion for tea. On the left side of the study was an impressively large bookshelf, filled with books on philosophy, history, literature, and technology that Chen Yuankang had collected over the years, showcasing his vast knowledge and depth.

As Ye Yang examined the study, Chen Yuankang began brewing tea at the side table.

"Dr. Ye, please have a seat. Try some of this top-grade Huangshan Maofeng tea."

Ye Yang, noticing Chen Yuankang's eager gaze, took a sip. The sweet tea refreshed his palate, leaving a lingering taste. He exclaimed, "Great tea!" Though, in truth, he knew little about tea, but found it delightful.

Chen Yuankang could tell Ye Yang wasn't an expert in tea, so he skipped the topic, focusing on the matter at hand.

“I can't thank you enough, Dr. Ye. Without your timely intervention, I might not be here…” As he spoke, he moved to kneel before Ye Yang.

Seeing this, Ye Yang quickly rose to prevent Chen Yuankang from kneeling, saying, “Please, there's no need. I couldn't bear seeing Chen Meng so distraught."

Chen Yuankang, noticing Ye Yang's concern for Chen Meng, probed, "You and Meng are classmates, right? How long have you two been together?"

"We aren't a couple, sir."

Hearing this, Chen Yuankang asked, puzzled, “Then why did Meng bring you home? She’s never brought male friends here before.”

"It's quite a story. Today, I saw her being bullied by a male classmate and intervened. Afterwards, she invited me for dinner, but en route, she received a call from home and hurried back," Ye Yang explained, changing the topic to avoid discussing his relationship with Chen Meng.

Stolen novel; please report.

"Let's discuss the matter at hand," urged Ye Yang.

"Yes, of course." Chen Yuankang, realizing Ye Yang was skirting the topic, moved on. He asked earnestly, "I've been tormented by this illness for over a decade. Now that there's hope of a cure, can you assure me of a complete recovery?"

"Don't worry. I've used a special acupuncture technique to rejuvenate your body. If all goes well, in a year or so, you should fully recover," Ye Yang replied calmly.

Relieved by Ye Yang's confidence, Chen Yuankang expressed gratitude in his eyes, sighing with relief. "Dr. Ye, you're truly miraculous. Over the years, I've tried countless treatments to no avail."

Chen Yuankang then handed over a black card with captivating golden patterns. "Dr. Ye, there's five million in this card. Please accept it as a small token of my gratitude."

Ye Yang didn't decline Chen Yuan Kang's generosity. After all, he was still in debt of several hundred thousand yuan from a high-interest loan.

He examined the card for a moment and said, "Mr. Chen, you're too kind. I appreciate your gesture and will accept this."

Seeing Ye Yang accept the bank card, Chen Yuan Kang's face lit up with a delighted smile. "Dr. Ye, given my condition, will I be able to live like a normal person before I'm completely healed? Is there anything I need to be cautious about?"

Having been bedridden for a prolonged period due to his illness, the ordeal had almost driven him to the brink of despair. The fact that he managed to persevere was a miracle in itself. The idea of living a life free of illness again was immensely appealing to him.

Understanding Chen's sentiments, Ye Yang, after a moment of contemplation, said, "Don't worry, Mr. Chen. Get me some paper and a pen."

With stationary readily available in the study, Ye Yang picked up a brush pen and listed about a dozen valuable medicinal herbs.

Looking at his own barely legible handwriting on the rice paper, he frowned and said with a hint of distaste, "Mr. Chen, get these herbs prepared. I'll brew you a medicinal concoction. After drinking it for three days consecutively, you should recover fully."

"Really? This must be a miraculous prescription!" Treating the rice paper like a priceless treasure, Chen Yuan Kang's face lit up with excitement.

In reality, this was far from a miraculous prescription. It was just a random list of herbs Ye Yang jotted down based on his knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine. While consuming them might offer some health benefits, they had nothing to do with Chen's ailment. The key was that during the brewing process, Ye Yang would discreetly add a drop of his blood into the concoction. This was the crucial ingredient to accelerate Chen's recovery. The rest was just for show.

Seeing the prescription, Chen Yuan Kang wanted to drink this miraculous brew immediately. But he knew it wasn't feasible; first, they didn't have the necessary herbs, and second, it was already quite late. He didn't want to disturb Ye Yang any further.

He then said, "Dr. Ye, it's late now. Why not spend the night at the villa?"

Glancing at the time, and realizing that he might miss the school's curfew, Ye Yang replied, "Thank you for the offer, Mr. Chen, but I'm not comfortable staying at others' places. I'd prefer to go back to the school."

Chen Yuan Kang rose from his seat and said, "Ye, at this hour, you might not get a ride. I'll have the housekeeper, Li, drive you back to school."

Ye Yang also stood up and replied, "Thank you, Mr. Chen. That would be kind of you."

As they exited the study, Chen Yuan Kang instructed the waiting housekeeper, "Li, please drive Dr. Ye back to his school. Make sure he arrives safely."

Li promptly and respectfully acknowledged, "Yes, sir! I promise to ensure Dr. Ye's safe arrival."

"Thank you, Uncle Li. Let's go."

"Please wait a moment, Dr. Ye. I'll fetch the car."

In no time, Li returned with a modified business car. Ye Yang got in, waved goodbye to Chen Yuan Kang, and the car gradually pulled away from the villa's premises.
