THE ZOMBIE MAN
1 - What happened

1 - What happened

"Come and see, Yangzi is awake!" A surprised voice echoed throughout the dormitory.

Lying in bed, Ye Yang opened his blurry eyes and was met with the worried faces of four men staring back at him.

Confused, Ye Yang couldn't comprehend his situation. Moments ago, he was enjoying a massage from two fairy maidens from his sect. He was sipping on golden sacred dragon blood, a drink he had forcibly taken from the royal Golden Sacred Dragon of the dragon clan. The dragon, unable to oppose him and having favors to ask of Ye Yang, reluctantly provided the blood.

As he relished the drink, his surroundings abruptly changed. Glancing around, he realized he was in his college dormitory, a memory from Earth.

Recollections flooded in. Ye Yang hailed from a small town, with a family of four and a younger sister. Zhang Xuan, a beauty from his town, was also his high school classmate and later girlfriend in college. Their relationship became strained due to Zhang Xuan's extravagant spending habits, and he amassed a debt trying to please her. After a bitter breakup and overwhelming despair, Ye Yang passed out, only to awaken as a zombie in a mysterious forest.

The forest, shrouded in a purple mist, was home to magnificent trees and creatures. Over time, Ye Yang, unlike the wandering zombies, evolved and retained his human intellect. His appearance gradually morphed, from black fur to gold, making him a unique presence in the forest.

Feeling restless, he decided to venture out. After a while, he came across a scene of a severely injured woman, named Cheng Ziwei, surrounded by motionless black-clothed individuals. Ziwei was on the verge of death due to the forest's poisonous mist.

Realizing he was immune to the poison, Ye Yang had an idea to save her. He dripped his own blood into her mouth and onto her wounds. Soon after, her complexion improved.

In gratitude for saving her life, Cheng Ziwei brought Ye Yang to her sect, the Purple Mist Immortal Sect. From that moment, Ye Yang's extraordinary journey of cultivation began. He became an esteemed elder in the sect, thanks to his immunity to the forest's poison. Cheng Ziwei, the saintess of the sect, and Ye Yang grew closer and eventually became partners, creating a renowned tale in the land of Xuan Yang.

"Yang, you're awake. Thank god! We were so worried," said a tanned, muscular man.

"Zhou Bin? What happened to me?" Ye Yang, full of confusion, asked.

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

Ye Yang remembered Zhou Bin. He was the leader of their group of four from dorm 503. A simple, loyal and straightforward man.

"Did you lose your memory? Yesterday, you fainted on the school's playground. Some classmates recognized you and brought you back," Zhou Bin said with concern. "Heard you broke up with Zhang Xuan. Everyone at school knows. That probably took a toll on you."

Just yesterday? From Zhou Bin's words, it seemed only a day had passed. Even though there's no sunrise or sunset in Xuan Yang mainland, and no phones or calendars, it felt like hundreds of years had gone by. Was it all a dream?

"I smell blood!" Ye Yang said, looking at Guo Qiang. "Did you get hurt?"

"How did you know, Ye? I fell down the stairs while checking my phone and scraped my knee," Guo Qiang replied, puzzled as he was wearing pants.

Ye Yang was baffled. Even though in his dream he was a zombie for over a decade and had become sensitive to the smell of blood, it was just a dream.

Regardless, he quickly got off the bed, feeling perfectly fine in his familiar body.

"You must be hungry after all this time. Let's go to the school cafeteria," proposed Shen Yuchen.

Feeling the hunger pangs, Ye Yang replied, "I'm starving. Let's have beef noodles. I've missed the ones from our cafeteria. Dinner's on you, Zhou Bin!"

"Sure thing, let's go!" The four headed to the cafeteria shoulder to shoulder.

"I'll have a bowl of beef noodles," Ye Yang told the chef, missing the taste after having settled for instant noodles to save money.

The group found a table and sat. The familiar taste made Ye Yang feel as if he had been reborn. It was a feeling so familiar yet so distant.

Having a massive appetite, he had five bowls, to the amazement of his friends.

As they finished, they headed to their respective classes. Ye Yang was in the medical department.

He pondered the dream-like experiences he had, wondering if it was real or he had actually time-traveled, which might explain his huge appetite.

Suddenly, a voice came from nearby, "Chen Meng, be my girlfriend. I'll treat you right!"

Ye Yang didn't pay any attention, continuing on his way.

"Hold on! Didn't you see Li Shao is busy here? This way is blocked!" A brawny man tried to stop Ye Yang.

Lifting his eyes, Ye Yang noticed a frivolous rich kid, Li Gang, bothering a pure-looking girl, Chen Meng, who seemed distressed. Li Gang, known for his wealth and influence, had his way in school. Nobody dared intervene, but watched from a distance.

Ignoring the scene, Ye Yang continued on, his mindset having evolved from his zombie dream.

"Hey, isn't that the nerd Ye Yang? Can't you see I'm busy here? Stop him!" Li Gang ordered.

"Just mind your business," Ye Yang said calmly.

Enraged, Li Gang shouted, "Teach him a lesson! Make him kneel before me!"

But before his henchman could act, Ye Yang effortlessly dodged his attack and pushed him, causing a loud crash.

Everyone gasped, and Ye Yang himself was stunned by his own strength.

"You... how dare you!" Li Gang exclaimed, his face red from a slap by Ye Yang.

A stunned crowd watched as Ye Yang smirked, "Want to count again? Or should I give you three seconds?"

Li Gang, now even angrier, shouted, "You'll pay for this!" and left, planning to come back with backup.

"I'll be waiting," Ye Yang replied, signaling he was unafraid.

Chen Meng watched in astonishment, as if seeing a new side of Ye Yang.
