In the Corner

Interwining basic technics trainings and sparring sessions for two more hours, the two finished once they were too exhausted to continue and run out of water to sweat. Clara's initial choice turned out to be the right one, she felt most comfortable with a spear and after few tries she got the hang of it. In her hands even the simplest stick turned into a deadly weapon thanks to her new powers. When she eventually broke all 'weapons' Arath took with them they were forced to return to the city. The two ventured into the labirynth of stalagmites and other rock formations drenched in sweat and with a new set of bruises and cuts. They took a quick bath, changed into better clothes that, had been already washed properly, and set off in the direction of market square. The shop looked better than ever, there was no dust, the floor was shiny and the walls were neatly decorated with white curtains and old maps. The place was filled with customers and a young girl was running from a desk to desk presenting the best wares and convincing the customers to buy the most expensive ones.

"This set of candles is the best in the whole First City, you won't find better ones I assure you. They don't give off any smell whatsoever and burn for six hours straight. Perfect for both keeping your house well-lit and keeping you safe in the dungeon. Only five denars for a set of ten! That's the best deal of your life."

"Look at that, your little sister was born to be a merchant! Even I would buy these candles just to see her smile." Arath looked at the scene before him.

"I didn't know you liked little girls. That's new."

"You just can't leave things be, can't you? It would sound perfectly normal if not for you."

Anga who just noticed her new visitors, after selling few items to an older man, approached them happily.

"It's good to see you again! How is your training doing?"

"It's good to see you too." Clara hugged Anga and ruffled her hair.

"Your sister seems to be blessed by Air Element. She kicked me so hard all my guts twist with fear when I see her. If I were you I would do my best to not annoy her."

"My big sister is strong! Great news."

"And how are you doing? You look like you have been born to a rich merchant family."

"Aunt Ruby said she had taught me everything she could and sent me off to receive customers."

"Have you encountered any rude ones? Just give me names and I will kick their asses." Clara had a very serious expression and one look at her face revealed that she wasn't joking.

"Not really, there was one guy who offered me different things like sugar etc. for following him but didn't have the time to finish his sentence as aunt landed a punch on his face and started to scream 'pervert'. Besides that nothing unusual happened."

"Do you remember what he looked like?" This time Arath showed determination and anger.

"He was well-dressed, had high leather shoes, a long blue cloak and black hair. He didn't look like he was saving on food."

"Most probably a low noble. Bunch of bastards with ego higher than The Tower itself. Did he have any characteristic features?"

"Let me think. I don't think so."

"Alright, if you ever see this guy again run to Ruby and don't look back."

"Wait. There was one thing, he had a swollen lip and golden teeth."

"Thanks. Now that worry about it get back to work."

With very grim expressions the two left the shop. Both of them made themselves a promise that if they ever see this fucker they will not let him off easily. Few broken bones and a month in a clinic was the very minimum. Just when they left the shop seven continous bell rings could be heard throughout the city.

"Shit. We have half an hour left. Let's hurry up." Arath realized how late it was.

Running the whole distance proved to be a more difficult feat than expected so they arrived two minutes too late. The hall was so full that only few seats in the corner in the last bench were left. Dozens of rows full with people were facing a huge pedestal with two hundred young people standing on it. Above them on top of stairs leading to the top of the hall was standing a middle aged women speaking some big words with a serious tone. No one besides the heroes and Clara paid any attention to what she was saying. Everybody came here with just one purpose - to find out which elements the young guys awaken and which team would be the most profitable to join. The Council didn't put much hope in the heroes so they let them form their own teams and work as they wanted after the awakening. Heroes listened to Agatha's speech because they wanted to learn more about the dangers they were going to face and understand the power they were about to wield, while Clara after being a slave for most of her time lacked the theoretical knowledge about The Tower and wanted to make up for it as soon as possible. After about an hour of different speeches by different so called 'wise people' the awakening ceremony was about to begin.

"The seals granted to you will awaken together with your elements. They will improve your abilities and make you strong enough to face beasts of the dungeon, but never forget that.."

"With great power comes great responsibility, sure whatever. Most of you nobles don't even now what responsibility means so cut your bullshit." Arath finished the sentence quietly with no intention to listen to her sweet words anymore.

Few seconds later a giant array centered in the middle of the pedestal spread out around the entire building and shone with bright yellow light. Not long after on heroes chests a similiar array appeared. The sight of about 200 people shining like a torch was so astonishing that no one could take off their eyes. Around each of the youngsters different elements manifested themselves. Everyone was so mesmerised with this turn of events that not a soul noticed a young man in cheap clothes lying down on the floor in the last row. This man had the same array on his chest and his name was Arath.
