Chapter 56 - News from Across Legoria 3

The following is an excerpt from a Magister’s report on the Island of Betel to their superior about strange happens in the area of Dragon’s End.

“It started a few days ago, strange readings that no one has managed to identify started being noted by the Clairvoyant team. Weak flows of magic in and around the upper abdominal region of the skeleton. After enough time, they have said the flow is moving like a heartbeat. Please advise.

Beyond that, we have received several reports of unchecked monster activity in the area, higher rates than should be expected for this time of year. They haven’t reached all-time highs yet, but there is nothing to suggest that they won’t keep rising. Right now the numbers are being kept under control, but if the situation gets out of hand we may need to post travel warnings throughout the third pass. Please advise.

Finally, there have been strange lights coming from the tower in Blanche’s Rise, visible to the scouting teams near Bardoqua and Everfou. However, when we tried to verify this with teams in Blanche’s Rise we were routinely assured that no such light was observed, likewise the teams in Sebosa did not see any lights either. The Clairvoyance maintain that the source of the light is not magical in nature, the possibility of supernatural interference hasn’t been ruled yet, but we are unsure how what the source could be. Please advise.

The following is an excerpt from the Philosopher Times, describing the efforts to restore King’s Grove (The City) after the explosions.

After several months, the restoration and recovery efforts in King’s Grove Proper and Salsi have concluded. The damage done to the town walls of Salsi have been fully repaired with minimal difficulty, save for the one reported incident of a passerby under the town’s arch being struck with a falling brick.

King’s Grove Proper has had more difficulty, with several residents complaining of minor cases of Mana Poisoning, among other health related issues. Neither the Capital nor the royal family have given an official statement on the restoration of the manor. Outsider reports however claim that all exterior structural damage has been restored, with the exception of one part of the eastern wing of the estate.

Access to the city has tentatively been opened up to the public, but High Magister Ferdinand has declared a travel warning and told citizens that unless you have a good reason to visit the city at this time, redirect elsewhere for the time being.

The following another excerpt from the Philosopher Times in the same issue, describing the growing population disaster and mass exodus from King’s Grove.

In other news, following the edict passed by King Alasander that declared that all men and women of a certain age must complete a five-year military service tour, as well as the invocation of the imperial tithe for food products, the King’s Grove region has suffered unimaginable collapse in terms of population and economy, reports suggest that as much as 35% of all generational farmers in the region have since sold their land, and a projected 75% will have done so in the next five years.

This turn of events was not unforeseen, as many landowners in the capital repeatedly railed against the tithe, suggesting that it will do inoperable damage to the region and will throw the country's economy into disarray.

King Alasander and the Royal family have yet to deliver a statement on the matter, but when the matter was brought up to a local regent during a press conference, they claimed that the tithe as well as the call for soldiers will greatly accelerate the war in Halth and bring prosperity to the country.

We at the Philosopher times reached out to High Magister Ferdinand Delerous for a statement on the matter, to which he responded:

“As of the moment, I have no official statement on the matter. I do, however, wish to deliver a statement to any and all former and current citizens of King’s Grove. I promise you that despite appearances, I and those close to me have been doing all we can to help in whatever way is possible. Furthermore, I swear to you that by the end of the year, we will have momentous news that will benefit the entire region, if not the country. So please, if you ever had any faith in me, please hold onto it for a bit longer. Faith will carry us a long way.”

The following is a given statement from sources close to Etir Von Mysthen, who currently is heading up independent recovery efforts in Greto Viel.

“What my brother has done to this country and its people sicken me to my core. I never wished to wear the crown, but I was ready to take on the responsibility that it required. My father was a peaceful man at heart, and Alasander is not. There are thousands of Halthian men, women, and children in Greto Viel and throughout Legoria that have been harmed by his reckless and uncaring decisions, all moving towards some goal that must only be clear in his twisted and demented mind. In his stead, I will need to care for the people I swore to protect upon being named the true heir. I will not rest on a throne that has been slathered in the blood of the innocent, so I will build again what my father, and his father, and his father before him worked toward. Peace.
