Attack of the Space Koala

Adapted from a transmission by Captain StonerSteve

[Transmission begins]

The quest for water should never be abated. This simple adage is attributed to a famous explorer as they crossed an ocean of amber sand. Was their view similar to mine? The dying light of a sunset streaking across a sparkling desert, beautiful but barren.

We have reserves, of course, stretched by magic. However, we need to find the next settlement soon. If not, I think the magic will give out.

I decided to stop under the shelter of a Dry Leaf Fig tree. This lonely species is native to the area. Many wanderers have found shelter beneath the thickly set, prickle branches.

As I rested, my rumination was interrupted by a maniacal laugh. The koala landed on my back and toppled me to the ground. I managed to wriggle around and face my foe, but the heavy critter retained his position sitting on my chest.

“This time you’re gonna pay with your beard!” He croaked.

My protests were sincere. “Not my beard! It’s my finest feature. Without it I lose my cheekbones.”

The koala raised their paw, holding the razor high.

Boom! A loud burst of noise attracted the attention of my assailant. My faithful assistant Reginald, a three-foot Penguin-like being, held a smoking flare gun. His quick thinking had saved my face.

Thankful for the distraction, I jumped to my feet, toppling the koala to the ground. The razor went skidding across the desert sand. I grasped at my chin with superficial fear. Ah, the beard was still in place.

“Why would you ever do that?” I demanded of the koala.

“To distract you from the larger plan.”

Reginald and I exchanged a worried glance as the sun was blocked by a large object. I looked up to find a disc-shaped object floating above us and casting a shadow across the desert sand.

“You have the most interesting friends,” Reginald commented drily.

Whoosh! A beam of pink light was projected onto us from the UFO. Slurp! I felt my boots leaving the ground as we were pulled up into the belly of the Koala’s starship.

Follow to be enthralled by another epic adventure, as I chronicle my journey through space and time. This is Captain StonerSteve, signing off. Until next time, let your light shine bright.
