In a place unknown to earth, a war of epic proportions was underway.
“Quickly, into the keep!”
“Our forces won’t hold!”
“Your majesty, we must hurry!”
A flurry of voices could be heard amidst the soft twing of bowstrings and the abrasive clashing of swords.
“We don’t have much time! Make it quick!”
A voice could be heard shouting. Amidst all of the chaos, a young girl could be seen quivering in the arms of her father, the third king of the united city-states of Andreia.
“It’s ok darling, nothing could happen to you while I’m here.” He reassured her, though his worried voice betrayed his calming words.
Despite that, the child seemed calmed by his words, the words of a father who had never once betrayed the trust of his child. Explosions could be heard nearing the location of the two, as the king and his most loyal men hastily placed the child in to the circle in the center of the room. He then slipped a small, but heavy pouch filled with jewels into her hand.
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
She seemed confused by this turn of events, and so as the king and his men were pouring their mana into the circle, the king began his explanation.
“It is only a matter of time before the castle is breached, and the royal lineage must live on. It is our duty as the crown to fight for any hope remaining, no matter how slim. Those of the deviant faction do not have the interest of humanity at heart, and in these turbulent times, only those of us who fight for our continued survival may prevail. Should this country be taken, the front line holding humanity against the devils will crumble, and all of humanity will fall soon after. I’m sorry to send you away from your home, but you must grow up and become strong before you can hope to salvage the remains of our legacy. I will try to survive, but should I fail the fate of all of humanity rests on your shoulders, Marienne. I hope to see you again soon, but it is unlikely. This magic circle will not only transport you to a safe realm, free of the strife of our lands, but it will also call you back once you become an adult, so you can reclaim your rightful throne. The jewels in the pouch I’ve given to you should be more than enough for your survival in the new lands. I love you Marienne, and just know that your mother loved you too.”
As he uttered these words, the child thought back to earlier that day, when the attack began. It was a day like any other, filled with etiquette and magic classes, until she finally got to midday. Midday was when her parents would make time for her, playing with her and raising her as they saw fit.
It was in this otherwise inviolable time that an arrow silently went through her mother’s neck, landing on the courtyard in front of her as blood splashed across her face. There was an arrow trained on both her and her father as well, but his expertly honed instincts managed to knock them out of the air before it became too late. However, he only had 2 hands, and with 3 arrows coming, he had to make a sacrifice.
When her mind returned to the present, tears began to blot her eyes and pour down her face. Her father looked at her sympathetically, as the magic circle had finished its mana loading and she began to fade from view.
“Good luck Marienne, and may the gods light your way.”
And with these parting words, a blinding light assailed her senses, knocking her unconscious.
