I feel my cheeks flush with embarrassment and I turn away. Rufus chuckles and claps his hand on my shoulder.
"So what do you think of this?" I shoot him a glance, which seems to make him laugh more. We walk pass the showers and check out the toilets and the urinals which thankfully have doors to them.
I walk back out of bathroom with Rufus, still laughing at my reaction, following me.
"Come on, I'll take us to our room." He takes off again down the hall.
The deafening silence, with the exception of our footsteps, fills the halls. I didn't know if I should say anything, so I begin to hum a little elvic tune. I look out of the corner of my eye just to see Rufus watching me. His head is slightly turned, his eyes holding the expression of curiosity. I pause in my humming to turn and look at him in the same way he is looking at me.
'What?' I say with confusion.
' What are you humming?'
'An Elvic song, it's by one of my favorite musician, it's called 'Lavish', why' He continues to stare at me, his brow furrow slightly as he takes in what I said. He silently breaks our gaze and shook his head without an answer. We continue down the path to the dorms, passing the break room where other boys practice lessons on each other, eat, and relax after honing their skills to be at their peak. Beams of lights flash out of that room, followed by growls and grunts, I wanted to stay longer but Rufus walks so fast, I have to do a little jog to catch up to him.

We made it to our room and I see all my stuff packed up into a corner, ready for me to decorate my side. My bed is brought from home, with my sheets, bed spread, quilt, pillows and stuffed animals on top. I turn to Rufus's side of the room and I see he decorated his room in astrology. Wallpaper of star constellations spread throughout the room, under each constellation is a name. Orion, Aries, Norma, Musca and others just to name a few. There is a black dresser between our beds, a lamp that changes from a different constellation along with the name every six seconds sits there. His bed is messy, the dark blue streaked with white to resemble marble comforter balled up at the corner of the bed. The sheets of the bed are black and covered in fur, pillows are thrown aside. Some of his school uniforms are stuffed under his bed. I chuckle inside, because despite Rufus's uptight behavior, he's still a wolf after all. He flops down onto his bed and kicks his shoes off, he rubs his back against his bed, eerily resembling a dog trying to scratch an itch .
'So, is this your first time sharing a room with someone' I ask, trying to kill the silence while I make my bed.
'Yes, before no one wanted to share one with me'
'Why'
'I'm not the cleanest person, as you see' Rufus motions to his messy bed and I giggle. He smiles in return and watches me as I finish making my bed. I place my apple green sheets on, cover them with my salmon pink blankets. I fold my quilt and put it on the edge of the bed along with my stuff animals, taking one to sleep with.
'I'm sorry' I pause.
'For what?'
'For trying to intimidate you on your first day, it must be hard joining a school where you are the only one of your species.' I sit up and look at him, unclear what to say. His eyes met mine, he appears to be genuinely apologetic. It seems like minutes passed when I finally broke away.
'It's alright, don't worry about it' I fidget with the stuff unicorn I'm holding, avoiding his stare.
I look up and I see he is right above me. I can feel my face turning red, and I look away quickly. He bends over and he grabs my hand.
"Like I said before, this doesn't make us friends" he says. My whole face feels hot and I feel my ears glow out of pure confusion. He lets go and goes back to his bed. I cover my face with the stuff animal and try to calm down. After a few minutes, I put my phone on the charger and lay down to rest from my weird first day. Falling asleep, I enter a dream that feels more like a memory.
